19So the Singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbales of brasse. 20And Zachariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Iehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maasiah, and Benaiah, with Psalteries on Alamoth. 21And Mattithiah, and Eliphaleh, and Mikniah, and Obed Edom, and Ieiel, and Azzaziah, with harpes on the Sheminith to excell. 22And Chenaniah chiefe of the Leuites was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilfull. 23And Berechiah, and Elkanah were doore keepers for the Arke.

15:21 To excel - Which word may be added to note the excellency of thatinstrument, or part of musick; or that there was a greater extension orelevation of the voice than in the former. This way of praising God bymusical instruments, had not hitherto been in use. But David institutedit by divine direction, and added it to the other ordinances of thatdispensation.
