7But wee were gentle among you, euen as a nurse cherisheth her children: 8So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to haue imparted vnto you, not the Gospel of God only, but also our owne soules, because ye were deare vnto vs. 9For yee remember, brethren, our labour and trauaile: for labourng night and day, because wee would not bee chargeable vnto any of you, wee preached vnto you the Gospel of God. 10Yee are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and iustly, and vnblameably wee behaued our selues among you that beleeue. 11As you know, how wee exhorted and comforted, and charged euery one of you, (as a father doeth his children,)

1Th 2:9 Ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail. There was hard and exhausting labor, "night and day". The apostle was not willing to be chargeable to them; hence, while preaching "in season, out of season" (2Ti 4:2), he labored at his trade for a support. To this day the weaving of black cloths for tents is a great industry at Thessalonica.
