3And Moses spake vnto the people, saying, Arme some of your selues vnto the warre, and let them goe against the Midianites, and auenge the Lord of Midian. 4Of euery tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the warre. 5So there were deliuered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of euery tribe, twelue thousand armed for warre. 6And Moses sent them to the warre, a thousand of euery tribe, them and Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest, to the warre, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow, in his hand. 7And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses, and they slew all the males.
