I have many bibles from childhood I think some are in poor shape l believe my mom highlighted lol notes lol . I have many books and reflective study material. The reading helps, but as you get older understand man created religions and they take out and put in what they want.Catholics keep wine drinking and idols in. Baptist take out well some ..smoking drinking and dancing . The Morman hot drinks like coffee .Jews some take out New Testament .go to church where your comfortable then read and meditate but interpretations are subjective. The most important things are first do you believe in God ? How about Jesus?then ask yourself why ? Don't let others turn you off from it. Explore explore explore ask God for guidance but you will find you change views on the details over time. It is part of growing. I do believe you should continue to discuss read meditate pray.
  • Wina on Joshua 5 - 2 years ago
I've read about the times in the bible where angels have rebuked persons for attempting to worship them ...in this case Joshua was encouraged to worship Him which leads me to believe that this was most likely the preincarnate Christ. Who else could have such great authority over the entire host of heaven? And then who else but God could have knocked down Jericho's walls as the Israelites obeyed His instructions to get it done? He was assuring Joshua that with His Godly power as Captain of the Host of heaven He would be there in the midst of it when the Israelites came against Jericho.

    About curses...

In the Old Testament ( Numbers 22-24) when the Israelites were about to enter Hanan the king of Moab Balaam asked the prophet Balam to curce them for him. Balam told him that he will pray to God and what God tells him that he will do.

This is what God said to Balam: (amongst other)

Numbers 23:23 " Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel..."

Numbers 24:9 " ... Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee."

If that was true for Israel at that time, then how much more that is true now in NT that we have Jesus Christ's Blood as a shield against evil things? Didn't Jesus said that we have authority on satan? Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you"

The best helps from a Study/Reference Bible is the center columns with notes (a-z's) pointing to a fulfilled or unfulfilled prophesy, or "the rest of the story", as they say.

It's like a tree with branches. One verse leads to another. I think it teaches patience and persistence.

Every new discovery is a gem or a jewel. Not meant to be hidden in a locked box.

It's humbling to consider the people of Hebrews 11. Long gone, but not forgotten by the Lord. It inspires me. How can I, with my little life, please my Lord?

Jesus said it to Peter, if you love me, feed my sheep; (carry my lambs). Agape love: the God-kind of love.

Love turned inward, dies with me.

Matthew Chapter 27:52 And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, Chapter 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many. My question is did these saints remain on the earth and lived more years and died again. Or did they receive glorified bodies and went to Heaven when Jesus did? I know it say's they appeared to many people.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ , what is the thing that all the world wonders after ? What is the world enthralled by on a daily basis ? Is it not technology ? What is the most obvious and prevalent piece of technology in the world ? You are looking at it , the internet . Doesn't the internet remind you of something else in the Bible ? Maybe the tower of Babel ? Or perhaps the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ? Please , limit your time on the internet and be so very discerning as to which sites you visit , the serpent is so very subtle . Don't let it wrap itself around you and squeeze the life out of you . So many of our young people are being funneled into a hive mentality , unable or unwilling to think for themselves , even some older people too . Be very discerning when it comes to the web . It's very apt that it's called the web , don't get trapped in it !

God is Sovereign : Deuteronomy Ch 28.

Serpent is created by God : Gen Ch 2 V 1 . God says , Gen Ch 2 V 17 : in the day that thou eatest ( 2nd Peter Ch 3 V 8 , how old was the oldest person in the Bible ? ) , thou shalt surely die .

John Ch 8 V 44 , the serpent tells the lie in Gen Ch 3 V 4 : ye shall not surely die , and this lie is the death of Adam and Eve , she believes the lie and not God so she eats and Adam follows her lead .

Gen Ch 3 V 5 : ye shall be as god's knowing good and evil , Gen Ch 3 V 22 . How should we b ? Matthew Ch 18 V 1- 4 , Luke Ch 18 V 15-17 .Do little children know good and evil ? Or r they innocent , open hearted , totally dependant on and trusting of their parents love for them ? Our parents r God and Jesus and we must b as their little children , obedient and trusting of their love and righteousness .

    The serpent encourages worldly wisdom , Christ calls him the prince of this world , Luke Ch 4 V 5-8 , John Ch 12 V 31 , Ch 14 V 30 , Ch 16 V 11 . The serpent , or satan if u like , rules this world but he absolutely does not have a free reign , Job Ch 1+2 .We must not b of this world ,Matthew Ch 13 V 22 . John tells us a lot about this world , John Ch 8 V 23 , Ch 12 V 31, Ch 14 V 17 , Ch 14 V 30 , Ch 15 V 19 , Ch 16 V 8 , Ch 16 V 11 , Ch 17 V 9 , Ch 18 V 36 . Also Romans Ch 3 V 6 and Ch 12 V 2 . Also 1st Corinth Ch 1 V 20-28 , Ch 3 V 19 and Ch 7 V 32-34 . Also 2nd Tim Ch 4 V 10 , James Ch 4 V 4 . Also 1st John Ch 2 V 15-17 , Ch 4 V 1-5 . And Rev Ch 13 V 3 . Finally James , Ch 1 V 27 .

    Deuteronomy 21:22

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:

    Deuteronomy 22:26

But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

What sins are worthy of eternal death in the lake of fire? Only one that I am aware of and that is rejecting the truth God has revealed to the sinner's heart by the Holy Spirit.

    Hebrews 10:29

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

  • Fred Scanlan - 2 years ago
How could anyone refer to Jesus as the Son of David? Knowing what David did in His life! Let alone his contribution to the scriptures found in the psalms. He is the man who committed murder and adulteries.

What was it that saved David? His repentance, His suffering, is that enough to reconcile us back to God? Would writing books be enough to sanctify oneself, somehow, someway? How did David know He was forgiven and reconciled!

This question, of knowing the forgiveness of sin without works is indeed daunting!

This I do know, there is nothing in me that is good, that even compares too a man such as Christ.

How can I receive the confidence, with the knowledge that I have been forgiven for Christ sake?

Is it possible to KNOW? Even as David knew? Or perhaps He was living in a dream world suffering dementia for all He had been through! What evidence is there? That I am a knew creature? What does it mean too be forgiven of sin? This is truly a mystery!

What is even more mysterious is how it effects you and me!

His promises are all I have! His promise is, that I am now His Son! If you knew me, you would say, how can these things be? You see, now that I am come from the same seed, I am as He is. These things I have nothing to do with!

Only by His mercy, His death on the cross do we receive these things.

Godliness can only be found in Christ, with the forgiveness of sin.

We are no more servants, but now we are as He is , Kings in the household of God!
