Part 1 of 2 Hello Imrana No, Melchisedec is not Jesus Christ. One of the significance of the Melchisedec story is that Abraham paid tithes to him as king of Salem. Melchisedec was also the priest of the most high God. Remember God did have priest. Just like he has ministers and other to teach and carry his word to all. The Levites carried the Word of God. Hebrews 7 1 2 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace

Never you denied your subordinates their rights and privileges. Abraham allowed his men to have their "portion " despite his determination not to take anything from King of Sodom. Again, materialism must give way for spiritualism. If you wants to serve God, you must deny yourself of many things.

One of the greatest lessons i learnt from the life of Abraham in this Chapter is 'perfect Christian love '. Even though his nephew, Lot was greedy and ungrateful by choosing first before his benefactor, very few people would have done what Abraham did afterwards when Lot fell into trouble and was captured. At the personal expense and risk to his own life, Abraham went to war on behalf of Lot to rescue him. No wonder the Bible says 'faith works by love ' Galatians 5 6 , and no wonder Abraham was called the father of faith. True faith indeed works by love. It was the same kind of love that Jesus disclosed in Matthew 5 48 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. ' As Christians, we must never repay evil with evil but repay evil with good. This is possible as we yield totally to God on a daily basis and are consecrated to God continually. I wonder the kind of great revival that would happen in our local bodies of Christ if we start practising this kind of divine love Abraham exhibited towards his nephew Lot.

AS A CHRISTIAN, IS NOT EVERY GIFT THAT WE HAVE TO ACCEPT. WE HAVE TO FOLLOW THE FOOT STEP OF OUR PAPA ABRAHAM. GENESIS 14:23
THAT I WILL NOT TAKE FROM A THREAD EVEN TO A SHOELACHET, AND THAT IS THINE, LEST THOU SHOULDEST SAY, I MADE ABRAM RICH.

According to Exodus 6:3, the name of Lord "Jehovah" was not known to Abraham. So, Abraham, I believe, might have used the name "Most High God", possessor of heaven and earth, as said by Melchizedek because "Jehovah" the Lord is the "Son of man" who is the creator and care taker of human race and God of Israel, came out of "El,Elohim", the Most High God.

Melchizedek gave the tithe to Abraham,in order to get the persons (souls) and seduce Abraham to do evil ie; choose El the Chief god of the cannanites of which Melchizedek was a high priest. v22 and Abraham said No, I lift my hands to The LORD the Real God, I wll not take even a thread or any thing etc, etc. Think about it, King of Sodom is known for what, evil amd worshiped Who, El, the chief god of the cannanites. the reason we do not hear any more about them; the king and melchizedek they were destroyed by God for their evil, etc.
Melchizedek has no geneology, 'cause he was lightening, from the east. see Luke 10:18

  • Joyce Hutto on Genesis 14 - 11 years ago
@Rita, Abraham did not go to Sodom to take away their possessions, He went to free his nephew from a sinful and abominable land. Abraham did not want anyone to say that he did not trust God to provide for him.

That's why Abraham the patriarch denied to divide the spoil with the king of Sodom in Genesis 14:21-24. We must live for God's blessings!

Jehovah of the Old Testament is the Lord Jesus Christ of the New Testament. The bible says Jesus thought it not robbery to equal with God. Father, Son and the Holy Spirit is three different offices or dispensation in which God works in or through. God above us the logos or Pillar of fire, God with us Jesus in the body to die for us and God in us the baptism of the Holy Spirit to give us power to live Christ like Life. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. God Bless you.
  • Concena on Genesis 14 - 11 years ago
You know that God sent his only one son to die for us to be justified and he did that so that we would have a choice to decide, if we want to be a Christian or be like the devil. We wouldn't have choice did he not send his son. Thank you, Jesus. Praise God! Bless his holy name!
  • Gugu on Genesis 14 - 11 years ago
Melchizedek is God!!! In the book of Hebrews 7:3, Paul says without father, without mother, without descent nor beginning of days nor end of life... Now if this Melchizedek is without beginning of days or end of life, then He still exists today. Only God (ELOHIM) has eternal life. There cannot be two God(s) existing together. Why? The bible says, behold Israel the Lord your God is one. God bless.
  • Merwin Krish on Hebrews 5 - 12 years ago
My dear brothers and sisters, let us have a look from the prompt.. JESUS is of the tribe of Judah in Genesis 49:10, Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:6. He is Melchizedek in Hebrews 7 ( Genesis 14:18). What does it mean? Read Hebrews 7:2, he is a priest without being from the tribe of Levi.. but if you count any priest in the bible, all are by the tribe of Levi.. So what is the link in between Psalms 110:4 and Hebrews 5:10... both didn't come from the tribe of Levi. Therefore what should be the consequence? Read Hebrews 7:11-18.. So we should be aware of this simple oracle.. as in Hebrews 5:12.

If you take the linage of Noah and look at their age and the age they had children and add this together...Shem (Noah's oldest son) lives 500 years after the flood and thus into 9 plus generations. Shem is also the linage of Abram. As a thought Melchizedek could be Shem.
  • Shaidi on Genesis 14:18 - 12 years ago

As many verses are in the Bible, it a mystery. Melchizedek, without father or mother was a high priest of God,,a priest to whom even the great Abraham gave a tithe..wow! Only God knows his lineage. And I am continually in awe...

In Genesis -1- we have God, in Genesis -2- we have The Lord God and in Genesis -3- we have the serpent driving a wedge between the Lord and that of God, for he does not speak of the fact that it by commandment of The Lord God that he challanges but speaks of (did God say ?). What these kings are trying to do( by way of SERPENT )is offer the position of high priest to Abram of only GOD but Abram stands correctly and by no evil when he presents that he is of The Lord the most high God. Thus he will be presented with" Abraham".
