Where can I find scripture to explain why God says women should not teach or preach to men
  • Ronald Bearden - In Reply - 3 years ago
About women not speaking in the church ?????!!!!In Corinthians ? Have you read ? (Close ???) If any man think himself to be a prophet or spiritual ! Let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord ,,,,
  • D W L - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. (To teach means preach)

Chapter 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; -- (Notice it says the husband of one wife - not wife of one husband.)

I Peter 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 - Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind

Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Sigh , my second answer and I meant that : bodily exercise is good for NOTHING not anything , sorry .
  • English Sacha - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
DWL , I cannot deny these scriptures , I will say however that I don't take Paul's advice and guidance as commandments . I believe that somewhere he says that bodily exercise is good for anything and we all know thats not true . All Paul's advice and guidance is perfectly good and appropriate but I don't believe them to be commandments . If they were I wouldn't have been able to attend my church with my bald head when I had chemotherapy . Women can go bald , if they do does that mean they can't go to church ? If they covered their bald heads with a wig wouldn't that be a vanity ? See what happens when you start to be dogmatic about something which is good practical advice and guidance not a commandment ?
  • RonaldBearden - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
@ Paul's writing not being ( commandment ) remember ?? Corinthians??? If any man think himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you ARE THE COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD .
  • D W L - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come

Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall (add) unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall (take away) from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book
  • English Sacha - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
I don't think I have ever added or taken away any words , if I have I ask for God's forgiveness , sometimes I can't remember the reference so just give the gist of the scripture . I am genuinely sorry if I have offended you . In my defense I would say that we are not strictly speaking , in a church on this site . In my congregation all women wear head scarves and are always silent . We never teach a brother anything ever .

Mostly we are totally silent at all times in church . Last year during the lockdown in u.k. we had no services at all for fifteen months . I started coming on here then looking for some Christian company . No one on here would know I was a woman if I hadn't said I was and I suspect that I'm not the only regular poster on here who is female and not revealing their gender . I can't say I blame them . Please don't read my posts on here if I offend you and I shall try to only post when I just can't stop myself . My husband occasionally posts on here but you don't and won't ever know who he is . He is sad for me regarding you but he did say " I told you this would happen " and he did . He's usually right , that's annoying to me .

I'd like to share my interpretation of 1 Tim 4:8.

It says "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."

This doesn't mean exercise has no value or is 'bad'. It doesn't mean we should chug down a keg of beer and drink a gallon of ice cream while eating Doritos and sitting on the couch all day. Our bodies are a holy temple that God loaned to us to take care of. This page shows a lot of verses related to that: Link

Now that we have a bit more context of what the rest of the Bible says, let's reread this verse. It says it profiteth little and compares it to godliness. We are all doing to die. But one could say that our godliness and good character will extend into the afterlife. It's comparing physical exercise to spiritual exercise. One is important, but the other is so monumentally important that the other now seems of little importance. Again, it doesn't say it's not important, but profiteth little. And it's only temporary. So, this should affect our priorities in this life. One thing is ridiculously important and the other is insignificant in comparison, so which do we spend the most time on?

Also, I think it's a sin to abuse our bodies and to overeat and become obese, to defile ourselves with gluttony, drunkenness, drugs, or sexual impurity, or lust, or self-harm, or any number of physical body-related sins. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. There are many overweight pastors who should deeply consider if what they're doing is truly glorifying to God. Fasting has many health benefits and helps us keep God #1 instead of a food idol.

    God bless...

There is no scripture saying women cannot preach , teach , or be of a prophet,.. in 2nd kings chapter 22 , you can read of Hul-Dah , she actually ran a college, on the word of God , then there was Debbie, who not only taught, but lead Israel into battle !!! So hey, many women play a serious roll , back in the Old Testament, an of course, in today's world

I met Iverna Tompkins in Tulsa. She'd do 3 day meetings. She's humorous at times but when she finishes you know the Holy Spirit was in that meeting. Yep, sometimes she would mention women who were over-bearing and rigid.

Men would attend too. She preached in Jewish churches too. Her meetings are so Meaty you feel full when it's time to go. Lots of ministry. Sacha you would love watching some of her videos on YouTube. She comes from a whole family of preachers and teachers. See what you think?

Thanks Mishael , I've written her name down and will check her out . Many times I've been in difficulties of one sort or another , scared or worried or sometimes can't sleep or think straight and I just keep saying the Lord's prayer over and over in my head and it soothes me calms me comforts me always .

    Psalms 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

    Song of Solomon 5:2

I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

You are his beloved and he is yours.

[Nowsometimes there is a duo that tries to wear us down and discourage us (all hours). They bother me too and anybody else who loves Jesus and isn't afraid of the Gospel of Christ.]

Pray this: By the Authority of Jesus Christ and the Blood of Jesus, I exercise dominion and authority over Satan and his demons 'harass and hinder'. In the name of Jesus I now send you outlaw spirits into outer darkness to forever wander.

By the authority of Jesus Name I yield to the rest that belongs to his beloved. Thank you for angels that guard my bedside every time I sleep.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14

Mishael: you won't have to do this every day.

authority, Is a long distance from speak or tell or pray or smile or sing or make coffee, or do any woman work like give birth and life to this earth!

Cant see that have a meaning here.

We are all the same and stand in same position in front of God. But for husbands Romans 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. She is indeed!

And who have the real authority Jesus Lives and have! That evan over a man. please dont be foolish. The meaning is too hold a standard in the meatings and in society. example: If all talk in the same time no one will hear anything.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

    Diddnt u know?

Love u all in Christ Jesus

Jonah called of God, but was 100% out of God's will going to Tarshish at that God prepared a great fish to save Jonah. That don't mean he was right.

Matthew 19:7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?

19:8 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but (from the beginning it was not so.)

Women have a place in the home and work of the Lord, but to be in authority over the man is forbidden by the written word. ( 1 Timothy 5:14) ( Titus 2:3-5)

Dear friend in the Holy Name if Jesus Christ.

Too understand the Holy scripture fully, i gess its not learnd in one day or two. And what it stands it stands.

Kindly understand that for about 2000 + years ago. Man and woman have a more separated works and today.

    1. The scripture is basic wrote by men, For Men.

    2. The Queen of Saba is the only woman who have some respect, and a high position.

    3. We have Ruth, Sara, Tamar. Elizabeth, Maria and some others.

    4. All others have ppl call for slave woman, whore woman, temtation and like that. Who is soo blue in theyr eyes that they dont see the devil? Whom let them run away and have a dream of a woman? Is it soo that they dont have a belive? Or what? Are some men sorry s..... Or folich?

    5. And i hope u are a christian man. If not please follow this website to get saved too day! Dont stay one sec more in the darkness.

    6. Many man have cause destruction too woman. And they are whoremenn as well.

    7. 1 Tim 5:14 is for a woman in a church. And i belive woman agree in that. No one vill stand alone in the war of God. Do they?

    8. Tit. 3:2-5 All woman i know in the church do soo. So what problem is this?

Remember dear D W L. That the Spirit is in whole, not only black letter on white.

    9. U know how can Crist marry a man from earth? How can Christ long for a man who suppose too be a earth man?

A husband and wife is one, please dont forget.

All things is for Him. He shall have the fully honor and glory. We who is the bride is bought for the most expencive blood ever!

Follow me in Jeremia 27. 2-5

God bless in the Holy Name abowe all other Name. He Is the King JESUS

Free. We should never lose sight of the order of creation, which is the essence of this subject: 1 Corinthians 11:3,8,9, "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." This order of creation is made manifest in the order of the Church, because that is the Plan & Operation of God for an orderly & correct coming together of His people.

These verses never demean women as being unequal to men in God's Sight. Women always have had a wonderful & compelling position in serving their family & humanity and yes, I perceive many of our dear sisters would probably do a better job of ministering the Word than some brothers. But to twist this heavenly order in any other way only demonstrates a rejection of Scriptural direction within the Body.

Mr Chris if God is the head of Jesus how is God and Jesus the same person ? Also how do you say we are not under the old law but then makes new laws for women ?
  • Chris - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
Hello Free. I'm sorry that I missed your comment to me, but will address it now. My apologies.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 11, the apostle is speaking about this relationship within the New Covenant. Before Jesus came to Earth as a babe, the Bible tells us that He was the Word of God ( John 1:1-14). In other words, God manifested Himself to His people, Israel, through the giving of His Word & by His Spirit through His prophets. But now in these last days (i.e. New Covenant days - post Cross), He has spoken to us by His Son, that Word Who was made Man ( Hebrews 1:1,2).

So, now when we see Jesus, He is seen (in the NT), as God made flesh, died, buried, resurrected, & ascended to sit at the Father's right Hand ( Luke 22:69; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 10:12). Jesus holds within Himself the full divinity of God His Father, all His Glory, & receives all the worship ( Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:12), but He now remains distinct in 'bodily' form because of His incarnation. And this is a picture of how we will be when translated to live in Heaven ( 1 John 3:2).

Therefore, God as Jesus' Father will always be at the Head, then Jesus as His only begotten Son next in position, then man as God's first creation in God's Image, & then woman made out of man, both of them bearing God's Image.

I don't understand your statement: "Also how do you say we are not under the old law but then makes new laws for women?" The only way I can understand your statement is to say that under the old Law, there was neither need nor provision for women preaching in the Church; there was no Church. This "ordinance" that Paul delivered ( 1 Corinthians 11:2) is entirely based on the risen Christ & His Church - nothing at all to do with any 'old' Law or whether the women of old ministered as prophets, judges, warriors, etc. Under the New Covenant, there is also a new order in His Body, as for those who now worship God in spirit & in Truth. Blessings.

Dear friend in Jesus. i know and understand this. Thank for the good word here. And u r right. I have nothing more too say for now. :D

I can see that some question here are comming back on and on. That's becouse it is a Big confusion, for they who live in the world, and who is not in a christian community. They just use the scriptures too hold a hand over a woman. That's wrong!

We can se that in taliban and other places too.

Be blessed in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Apologies, you are correct in that quote, But , I believe it's speaking that of a woman that is in a relationship with a man that preaches or teaches , not that woman cannot preach or teach ,.. it's not personal to just woman there ,.. it's speaking of relationship, in vs 15 you'll see " if they continue "an in vs 11 , that word woman is wrong , it's should be let ALL learn , meaning no one should interrupt while Gods word is being taught,.. in vs 10 , you'll see , professing Godliness, an of course vs 9 is addressing to not be over made up , while we may differ in the man / woman that's written, I assure you , woman have , an will , teach, preach, an be used by God

    Peace
  • Glenn - In Reply on 1 Corinthians 1 - 3 years ago
Hi , I dunno what Bible you're reading that from ,. But it's not in my king James, nor is that statement true in any way , shape , or form ,.. God uses any of his children at any time an point, an there are now , an were then many women that play a crucial roll in Gods word

    Peace

You are replying to a comment by "Ronald Bearden"

    to answer your question Ronald:

according to acts 2 when they were speaking in tongues,

both man and woman were present.

Noticed what the prophet Joel prophesied.

    Acts 2:16-18

all people can teach what they have learned from the bible.

but as far as authority. Adam was created first then eve was created as a

helper for Adam to take care of the earth- Genesis 2:18

    what about "within" the congregation?

    Ephesians 5:22-24; Titus 2:3-5

1 Timothy 3 within the Christian congregation or church...appointed ministers takes the lead in teaching the congregation or church. when a woman learn in silence 1Timothy 2:11, 12

within the congregation, this helps keep the congregation orderly. so in this instance. A woman doesn't have authority over a men within the congregation to teach nor over her husbands at home. however, husbands love their wives and listens to their concerns just as Jehovah ( Psalm 83:18) taught Abraham Gen. 21:8-12. Even Jesus; when he was at a house or on the roads he listened and asked woman questions. woman like Martha, Mary Magdalene, the Samaritan woman. he taught them and spoke to them with kindness. John 11:27; Luke 10:38-42.

if a woman sees something or has a question

...she can ask her husband at home.

    1Corinthians 14:33-35

Hope this Helps. the bible is a light and shines for all to see.

    john 3:16,17

Hello Ronald . In my experience many of those things are not classed as sins and are not actual commandments but are often kept up by many churches that I've visited . With regards to this site , how do any of us know who we are listening to ? Am I a man or woman ? Does it matter ?
