    @Ladytark,
Foolish things of the world are spiritual truths of the Bible that the learned of this world judge as base, or senseless, because to them, they don’t make sense. To the learned of this world, many Biblical truths are base.
Yet those are the way God has shown for us to get saved. And everyone that needs to be saved MUST come down (as the world thinks) to such things to get saved. Just as the chapter very clearly puts it. God bless you.
  • Ladytark on 1 Corinthians 1:27 - 12 years ago
What are the foolish things of the world? Would it be THE GOSPEL and THE PROPHETS? Because it's saying ‘’men whom the world would call foolish’’.
  • Jerry on 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 12 years ago
My name is Jerry; Was born again in the 60s during the "Hippie Rev"...was never one; was not looking for Jesus; {Who by the way was not lost}Jesus found me, and i was instantly & radically changed into a follower of Christ...A young 19 yr.old {Christian} named "Jerry Gray"blessed us with his brief presence in his life; my point is this;i live among a whole host of (Mormons)and recently asked them why they have no "Cross" on their temples; the simple response was, it is foolish to display something{Like the Cross} that was used to kill someone on...I asked them were they "Born Again" and they didn't even know what i meant...

    Brother Arius

    Read 1 Corinthians 3: 23

[23]And ye are Christ's; and Christ [is] God's.

You belong to Christ. Christ belongs to God.

You belong to God through Christ. Christ is the foundation of your faith in God.

To the church of God which is at Corinth.
To them that are sanctified in Jesus Christ.
To them that are called to be saints.
To them that call upon the name of Jesus Christ in every place, for their sake and for the sake of others.

Grace be unto you, and peace , from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

God is faithful and by Him you were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Paul beseeches those who worship God to have no divisions amongst themselves.

Believers should be joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Paul had learnt that there were divisions amongst the believers in Corinth.
[12] Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. [13] Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Up to this day these divisions have taken root in the Christian faith.

Like in the olden days Christians still identify their churches by the names of the founders or the names given by the founders.

Paul thanks God he did not baptize any of them except Crispus and Gaius and a few others.

[17]For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish because of foolishness.

And the preaching of the power of God is to those who are saved.

God will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

God has made the wisdom of this World foolish.
Through His Wisdom God created the World, yet humankind in its own wisdom did not know God.

The World tries to please God by the foolishness of preaching to them that believe.

    [21]
The Jews require a sign for them to believe.
The Greeks require wisdom for them to believe.

Preaching that Jesus Christ was crucified is a stumbling-block to the Jews. [23]

Preaching that Jesus Christ was crucified is foolishness to the Greeks. [23]The wise of this World.

But to them who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Jesus Christ is the Power and Wisdom of God.
    Few wise men are called.
    Few mighty men are called.
    Few noble men are called.
    Few rich men are called.
Many are busy with worldly affairs and the desire to fulfill fleshly passions.

God chooses the foolish things of the World to confound the wise.

God chooses the weak things of the World to confound the mighty.

God chooses the base things of the World , to confound the highly regarded.

God chooses the despised things of this World , to confound the exalted.

God chooses things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.

No one is glorious in the eyes of God.

But of him who is in Jesus Christ, who God has made through His Wisdom and Righteousness, and Sanctification, and Redemption: let him glory in the Lord.

Jesus Christ himself did not baptize people. [ John 4:2]
Jesus Christ could not have baptized people in his own name.
Jesus Christ’s baptism is by the fire of the Holy Spirit.

Anyone receiving this baptism is saved and receives eternal life.

You will have checkpoints throughout your life to keep you on track and on course with Jesus Christ. Amen, whom he chastises, he loves.
  • Ricky on 1 Corinthians 1 - 13 years ago
As I read the words of Paul,John,Matthew I myself don't see a church name in any of the words. Just like here why do we humans fight weather what denomination titles is right which is wrong. The Lord said as Paul was trying to get across to the Corinthian that their hearts were change by God the father. When I ask the Lord to come into my heart and asked forgiveness and to live within me. I didn't see a church name above my head. I ask God to forgive me of my sins. But I do believe we need a good church to attend to help keep us full of his glory. Because we just like cars will run out of gas and could backslide.
  • Connie Mitchell on 1 Corinthians 1 - 13 years ago
I think God for the wisdom and knowledge he had given me, to know him for myself by studying his word, he merely wants us to love one another, to live in unity and be ready for his coming, because he is coming back again.
  • Ben weaver on 1 Corinthians 1 - 13 years ago
V.10. No divisions among you! Why do we ignore this major principle? Jesus himself prayed that all believers would be as one so the world may know that Good sent him ( Jn. 17:21). Jesus, who is in believers, is heavenly, whereas our religious endeavors are often not. I think we have gotten the two confused. The new life and giftings of God's kingdom in Jesus draw believers into one loving family. Beware of worldly religion which attempts to do God's work with a managable system. Shine, Jesus, shine. Fill our hearts with the Father's glory!

The way that i happen to see this is that paul would be discussted with how we live today. With all denominations... I find that funny
  • Patricia Agbinor on 1 Corinthians 1 - 14 years ago
Ben I thank GOD for your life and the wisdom that has been given to you.
It is high time that believers realise that our focus is not on anything else but the kingdom of God. it is not about how we feel, or how better annointed than another person we are, but that it's about Christ and the kingdom of heaven.
A lot people has placed so much enphasis on dinomination and has completely forgoten that all believer have a common enemy which is the devil who is warring against the kingdom of God and all that believes in our Lord Jesus to prevent them from entering Heaven.
We should stop condeming other believers and focus on defeating for united we stand, devided we fall.
  • GuardedByGOD on 1 Corinthians 1 - 14 years ago
GOD/JESUS warned us about the Bible being touched by man. That man would be held accountable for such action.
  • Ben Weaver on 1 Corinthians 1:12 - 14 years ago
Is Christ divided? Jesus prayed that those who believe (trust and rely) in him, would all be unified as he and the Father are, so that the world may believe...( Jn. 17:21). Here in 1 Cor. 1:10-13, Paul suspects a violation of this fundamental principle. If Paul were to address our religious isolations today, would he say,:some believers say, "I follow Catholicism, I follow Luthern, Was Luther crucified for you? Were you baptized unto Menno Simons? Do all the denomination titles indicate that there are divisions among you? Let's overlook our worldly religious differences and focus on the heavenly life we have in Jesus. When Jesus walked on earth, his greatest conflict was with religion. Why do you look down on your brother, we will all stand before God's judgment seat ( Rom. 14:10).

  • Brian on 1 Corinthians 1 - 14 years ago
In this modern era, when science and materialism make non-belief fashionable and place believers on the defensive, it is comforting that Paul tells us that God confounds conventional wisdom with the Cross, that those who are despised and ridiculed for their faith by their "betters" are the chosen of the Lord.
  • Dawn on 1 Corinthians 1 - 14 years ago
I agree that there should be no divisions amongst the belivers but we ought not be decived by false teachers and false prophets the Lord Jesus will be arriving in the clouds when he returns according to our righteous Gods Holy Bible i do hope that not one soul is decieved by wolves in sheeps clothing or is unsure of the Bible we ought to pray in private and not out loud as the hippocrits do in the synogogs sadly some churches pray out loud i am only human and i hope i am not being decieved i can only trust God and Jesus whom are one and i do think and belive Jesus now sits at the right hand of God and is the way to the Father our great and mighty creator come quickly Lord Jesus from Dawn ~~~
