what this verse is telling us is that, this world, the people living in it, all the activities going on in it will surely come to an end one day,the bible made us to realize that relationship or oneness with world is Gods enimity, those that love this world and the worldly activities going on in it then forsake God will perish with the world, because God has determine to consume it with fire, after the arrival of jesus the 2nd time, and they will remain in hell with the devil forever, but those who seperated themselves to do the will of God to follow his commandments right here on earth will reign with him(God) forever, the bible made us to realize that when these has happened that the world has p***ed away, there will come a new earth nd a new heaven where those who did the will of God will abide forever and live forever.

I think it means to keep our hearts and minds fixed on Christ Jesus. The times I've sinned or gotten involved have been when I did not daily go the Lord and study His Word. The closer I stay too Him, the better my life flows. N.B.

so we must keep the commandments because according to the books of john in 2:3-4
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
  • Linda on 1 John 2:5 - 11 years ago
A man word lets you know what kind of person he is if he's always saying and not doing, then he's not a reliable person. Keeping your word should be a priority even in todays time where its all seems to be headed down the drain!

We must obey what God commands us to do, John 14:15.
  • King on 1 John 2:9 - 11 years ago
He that saith he is in the light and hateth his brother is in darkness. The fact is that when you say you are doing what is right, you have to love your brother, the one whom you are close to. If you do not, that means you’re still doing what is not right.

1 John 2:1 that you may not sin: God's plan for every believer. The cure for backsliding is to hurry to our Advocate Jesus Christ. Because He is righteous, He will plead our case and obtain our forgiveness. 1 John 2:12-14, The commandment to love fits all ages and all stages of the Christian life. Children in Christ can love because their sins are forgiven. Fathers have longer memories of past grace. Young men rejoice in power to overcome evil.

I John 2:8: Again a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past and the true light now shineth. 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things like anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication, envy, hatred, etc; are passed away; behold all things are become new. The light of God in us empowers us to have our loins girt about with truth, and having our breastplate of righteousness, Our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, taking the shield of faith, wherewith we shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And taking the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10.

I'm GUESSING that it means anything that takes time away from GOD, e.g., facebook, smart phones, video games, etc… devices that distract you from spreading the word.
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 John 2 - 12 years ago
1 John 2:1 Tells us that if any man sins, we have an Advocate with the Father. Jesus is our propitiation for our sins, and not only ours, but the whole world’s. In order to have the Advocate on your team, you must accept Him in your heart as your Savior. That is why the scripture tells us God is not willing that any would perish, but that all would come unto repentance. The proof that one is born again, is that he/she will not practice sin. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. So a child of God cannot practice sin. Whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and this is what keeps the child of God on the straight and narrow way.
  • Sammy Dusenburg on 1 John 2:19 - 12 years ago
The problem with your defense of the unbiblical doctrine of eternal security is that you forget that just because you're born, that doesn't mean you'll live forever. Ever read Hebrews 10, "He that despised Moses law” died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under feet the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. "Yes, the Lord will judge HIS PEOPLE--not just those who aren't his people. Check out verse 38 of that same chapter, and don't forget to look over at chapter 6, verses 4-8, before you talk about having to be born again a second or third time. Jesus himself, in Matthew 10:22 gets, as always, the last word, by which we (his people) will be judged: "He that endureth to the end shall be saved." Sounds suspiciously like "the one who shall not be saved, is he that does not endure to the end," doesn't it?

1 John 5:20 We know that the Son of God is come and has given us an understanding that we might know him that is true ....the true God... 1 John 2:3: And hereby we know that we know him if we keep his commandments. 1 John 3:23: And this is his commandment that we believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 4:15: Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him and he in God. 1 John 2:4: He that saith I know him and keepeth not his commandments is a Liar. 1 John 2:22: Who is a Liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ..THE SON OF GOD...then it says the truth is not in him Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life no man comes onto the father but by me ....This is the hope of glory Christ in you....If Christ be not in you you are none of his... 1 John 1:5: But whosoever keepeth his word in him ..Jesus is his Word ...verily is the love of God perfected. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God that we keep his commandments......And hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John3:24: And he that keepeth his commandments God dwelleth in him and he in God. 1 John5:20: We know that the Son of God is come and hath given us and understanding that we might know him that is true ......his commandments ...and we are in him that is true even in his Son Jesus Christ this is the true God and Eternal life.

    V. 28. John is stating that the loser believer will be ashamed in a resurrection body at the judgement seat of Christ . We have confidence, because we have capacity righteousness God will not bless us beyond our capacity. Righteousness here is what the mature believer possesses. He has capacity.

could this mean that little children that dont understand sin and death, are excused and forgiven anyway,so that mankind cannot badmouth JESUS for allowing a child to die before the age of accountibility?JESUS is bigger than that ...
  • Ed. Kobani on 1 John 2:25 - 12 years ago
There is "THE PROMISE" and there are "THE PROMISES". The promise of eternal life is the reason for every other promise that GOD has given or will ever give. Every other promise GOD gives comes actually as a sign or pointer to "THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE" .....1John2:25 says it all.
  • Alice on 1 John 2:17 - 12 years ago
It seems clear to me that this verse indicates that the believer, in fact, lives forever--beginning at the moment of the new birth. If we actually receive the gift of eternal life at salvation, then, eternal life dwells inside us. Oh death, where is thy sting? We do not have to taste death because we have eaten from the tree of life (Jesus). It is strange how much people will fight against believing in eternal life beginning now. I think people resist because they don't think they can live up to believing they never have to die. Most people are sick with something, so, they feel that if they get sick, how are they going to live forever. Eternal life is a gift from God, it is not anything we do. However, we do have to accept it by faith.

Re: Mike Sibinil's 1 John Chapter 2 vs 19 - The Doctrine of Eternal Security. We should be careful about doctrine so that we should not be mis-led. Heb.10:26-27 said: For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. But ..... shall devour the adversaries. The bible does not teach christians to sin neither say a christians cannot sin (See - 1 Jn. 2 vs. 1)
1 Jn. 1:7 says: But if we walk in the light, as he is in light, we have fellowship one with another, and the of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If you don't walk in the light, forget about eternal security and your sin will fine you out.
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 John 2 - 12 years ago
Great to know that we have an advocate in heaven, Jesus Christ who is our propitiation. Thank God the Antichrist cannot come until the Holy Spirit be taken out of the way. Therefore let us love one another so that when Jesus returns we will not be ashamed at his coming. Love not the world, for whoso loves the world the love of the Father is not in him. The world is passing away, but whoever does the will of the Father will abide forever.
  • Apostle Per Einar Jensen on 1 John 2 - 12 years ago
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
  • Hannah on 1 John 2 - 13 years ago
Verse tells me that all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.when we sin it could either be these three things. They only last for a season because they are of the world. But they that abide in God they that do the will of God and hunger and thirst after him will abide forever

It is imposable for any one to be perfect in this wordly enviroment. The most important part is to follow Jesus, in our walk through the world, as close as we can in our daily life. We cannot ever please people, and we should not try. We can please God, and that is all we need for peace of mind. We are each in differnt stages of understanding, so we need not judge others, nor get down on ourself when things do not go right.
Two things that has helped me, when things do not go as I would like, is: I am like a precious metal. When the heat is turned up, the impurities in the metal comes to the top, and is skimmed off. When things do not go as I wish, the impurities in my thoughts and actions are coming to the top, clensing my soul from the impurities the world offers. This has been proven many times, as it is then I have looked to Jesus as my Saviour, and God as my creator, and found a Love, and peace, the world cannot offer without knowing them.
  • Mike sibinil on 1 John 2:19 - 13 years ago
The Doctrine of Eternal Security is Biblical. For no one can be Born Again more than once in his/her lifetime. If the believer can lose his/her salvation upon committing a sin, then he/she must need be Born Again for the second time. This process must necessarily be REPEATED over and over until death. What would happen to the Christian who did NOT manage to get Born Again for the last time who died UNEXPECTEDLY in a motor accident? Will he/she be in Hell because he/she did not have the opportunity of getting Born Again just prior to his/her death??

the earth is in labor pains

He will be coming with great power. There will be a fire around Him and it will be tempestuous which means, wild, raging, furious, and angry.
    3. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. Psalm 50:3.
Jeremiah speaks of the Lord as roaring from on high. It will be very tempestuous.
    30. The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout." Jeremiah 25:30.
The earth will start to respond to this tempestuous God coming toward it.
    19. The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly.
    20. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again. Isaiah 24:19-20.
The earth will be self-destructing in front of the eyes of the wicked and their hears will fail them for fear. And they start to realize that it is going to get worse.
    26. men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
    27. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Luke 21:26-27.
In terror, the wicked will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud and they will hunt for holes and caves to craw into so they don't have to see what is coming.
    19. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

1 john 2:23 religious people in our present times is very biblical in 2 TIMOTHY 3:7 TO BE EVER LEARNING AND NEVER ABLE TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH. IN FACT ALMOST ALL OF THE PEOPLE NOW IN THE WORLD NO LONGER BELIEVE NOR WORSHIP NOR PRAISE HIM NOR GIVING GLORY TO HIM EVEN GIVING THANKS TO HIM WHERE WE OWE EVERYTHING. PEOPLE NOW ARE LEARNING NOT TO BELIEVING THE WORD OF GOD BUT FINDING ANOTHER WAY OF UNDERSTANDING DRAGGING PEOPLE NOT TO BELIEVE THAT JESUS IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD. ONLY TRUE GOD MEANING THERE IS NO OTHER. IT IS HE THAT IS WITHIN THE BODY OF CHRIST THAT ALWAYS SPEAKS ON THE HEAVENLY THINGS HE THAT WORKS MIRACLES HE THAT OFFERED US SALVATION HE THAT TEACHES WHAT TO BELIEVE AND WHAT TO DO ONLY GOD CAN TELL US THE WAY INTO HEAVEN WHERE HE WAS BEFORE. IT IS NOT DEBATABLE BUT WE ARE TOLD TO BELIEVE. AMEN...
