    Henry,

1 Peter 4:7 starts out by saying, "But the end of all things is at hand:"

That little term "is at hand" is called a Perfect Tense, meaning has drawn near. The end is already in process of ending. That was back in Paul and Peter's day. It's even more so today.

But he says this is the basis of everything. You're suffering in the flesh. People are slandering you. You're supposed to be judged in the flesh. God wants you to be judged in the flesh, and God wants you to suffer in the flesh, because then you won't sin.

But in the Spirit, you're going to live for God. But the end of all things is at hand. So that's kind of like "Well, it will be all over soon. We'll just go through our short time where we have to suffer here on the earth!"

And then it says be ye therefore sober. This has to do with sober mindedness. I like that little term. It doesn't mean sober like without alcohol. It means to be sober minded.

Did you know that you might not be a drinker, but you can become drunk with the thoughts of the world? It's anything that takes over and influences our thought processes.

He says think soberly, and watch unto prayer. Those are commands. Peter is saying that we must keep a continuous open communication with Christ in all things. If we lose that communication, we'll be taken over by our hardships in life.

As we get further and further into the last days, and as things get worse and worse on the earth, I have to keep that line open. So the end is almost here. Because as I talk to Him, and I'm asking for His intervention, asking for His help, and asking for His will to be done, when I'm asking for His will to be done, I'm submitting to His will.

And if I have confidence that He's answering according to His will, then I have the request. That's the answer. Whatever it is, is the answer. So I am to be sober, that is, be sober minded. And watch unto prayer.

  • S Spencer Hid in Christ No judgment for Believers - In Reply on 1 Peter 4 - 4 years ago
Colossians 3:1-4. If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

FOR YE ARE DEAD, AND YOUR LIFE IS "HID" WITH CHRIST IN GOD.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear,

THEN SHALL YE ALSO APPEAR WITH HIM IN GLORY. "Absent of the body present with the Lord"

CHRIST WAS JUDGED FOR OUR SINS NOT HIS!! AND HE ROSE AGAIN FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION!!

You see in the old testament in the book of Exodus, you see the blood of the lamb as an atonement to hide them from judgment.

Exodus 12:11-13. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the "LORD'S PASSOVER."

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute "JUDGMENT": I am the LORD.

And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Christ is our passover, Jews/Gentiles =Church.

John 1:29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Believers works what they have done will be tried with fire but not for salvation.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 (KJV) Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: "BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; yet so as by fire.

Romans 8:1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

  • S Spencer on WHEN Chrstians WAS Judged - In Reply on 1 Peter 4 - 4 years ago
The answer to when a Christian is judged and whether he will continue in sin is in Romans Ch.6,7and 8.

Here's fragments pulled out of those scriptures.

Romans 6:3-4. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 7:25. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Romans 8:10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Romans 8:11-14. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

"Positionally the old man have been already charged!

Christ paid the redemptive price on the cross. IT IS FINISHED!!

Romans 8:1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

It's not a question of judgment It's a question of deception. "are you baptized in his death Positionally? do you have a 2nd nature that you see Paul is mentioning in Romans 7 that fights back against the old Man/old nature?

Christ the first fruit and if the first fruit is Holy the lump is also Holy. Wasn't the resurrection justification? " God's approval,

We have a earnest of the inheritance in the Holyspirit.

To be looking for further judgment suggests we have a works based relationship for salvation and Christ died in vain.
  • Jesse - In Reply on 1 Peter 4 - 4 years ago
I agree that there are two judgements. Everyone will be judged but there will be two separate judgments.

The first judgement will be for believers. It is called the judgement seat of Christ (Bema Seat). Believers will not be judged for salvation because our sins have been forgiven by Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

Believers will stand before Christ at the Bema Seat and give an account of their lives. What is not of Christ will burn but we ourselves will pass through the fire ( 1 Corinthians 3:15).

This particular judgement is to determine our reward.

The second judgement will happen at a later time and this judgement will be for non-believers. This is called the Great White Throne judgement. The non-believers will be judged and cast into the lake of fire.

So we will all be judged. We just want to make sure we are part of the first judgement, the Bema Seat of Christ.

    THERE ARE TWO JUDGMENTS

May the Spirit grace us with His truth an understanding.

If there are not two judgments, then how are the saints going to judge the world; because all have to be judged.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come (during a persons physical lifetime) that JUDGMEMT must begin at the house of God ( Hebrews 3:6): an if it first begin at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God.

1 Corinthians 11:31-32 For if we would judge ourselves (by the word of God), we should not be judged.

(vs 32) But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord (as children), that we should not be condemned with the world.

1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect (love your enemy), that we may have boldness in the day of judgment (in our lifetime), because as he is (he loves his enemies), so are we in this world.

Jude 1:15 To execute judgement on all, and to convince all (some are convinced in their lifetime some are not)....

2 Thessalonians 1:4-5 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and TRIBULATIONS that you endure:

(vs 5) Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, which you also suffer:

1 Timothy 5:24 Some men's sins are open before hand, going before to judgment; and some men they (judgments) follow after.

There are many more scriptures that confirm two judgments if you look for them; most don't look but are happy to follow the traditions of man.

    Good job D.J.

I applaud your efforts towards defense on a topic you apppear to be very passionate about. Perhaps next time you could leave your virtue signaling on F.B. and allow the poor woman who askes a simple question here to not regret it. If emotion equated to fact, you would definitely win. But I did not know we were competing.

Next time you want to punk somebody out on a biblical matter, feel free to to do so by using fact and less emotion. You clearly have no interest in learning, just bullying. If I said something wrong (perhaps misunderstood) I am willing to learn, but as far as I can see this comment section has been exhausted only by your vacuous rants on the pretext of social justice.

    Forgive us Judy may.
  • D.J. - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
    Vincent Calvert,

Why would it matter to you what ministry Judy May is affiliated with?

Judy never asked if she could be a "leader" of a church, or if she could "teach". Judy asked if she had a right to "take part in ministry."

You say that the definition of "ministry" is "service or aid... not to one particular job."

So, according to your definition of "ministry," what is your problem with Judy?

Maybe you should check through her first comment, as those words "should suffice."

You say "One who prophesies can teach."

    Well said.

Not to cherry pick, but what are you to do with Phillip's 4 daughters that were prophetesses. Could they not teach?

You say "a prophet[ess]" (seer) is an OT/Jewish concept."

Again, what about Phillip's 4 daughters. That is not Old Testament. They were prophesying after Christ died?

Your amazing words and comments should have been "sufficient" to correct my understanding, so sorry if I have not been persuaded that Judy should "be silent" concerning teaching the Word of God.

You do not have to be a "leader" to be a "teacher."

I am not "angry," nor am I looking to make a "spectacle" of this thread.

I apologize if my comments and questions made you feel uncomfortable.

I was just trying to defend the right of Judy (and half of the world's population) through the word of God, to be able to teach (not be a bishop or deacon) other people about the word of God.

    God makes no mistakes.
  • Vincent - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
Judy May, we don't know exactly what ministry you are referring to. Can you specify?

As for the rest of these comments, I will take each of D.J.'s answers in stride as I can see this person is upset and making this comment thread a spectacle. Though I do believe my first comment should suffice, (especially if the references were checked) perhaps some of the words I used need to be defined for a better understanding. Reading Paul's letters to Timothy, Titus, the Corinthians, and Ephesians; Peter's epistle, and Proverbs and you will get a good idea of the New Testament church's views on female leadership.

D.J. do you know what God has in store for Judy May? No, as she has yet to give any information concerning the specific ministry. Hence the reason why I am offering the basic information to make a decision. Ministry= service or aid. Is not specific to one particular "job."

Am I confident in the understanding God has given of the word? Yes. Am I judging Judy May? No. Jude= distinguish truth from falsehood.

Nothing I said was a judgment, as you can clearly see.

Deborah, who was set in her office (Judge) because "all the men did what was right in their own eyes" was put in that position because no other man in the land was capable. Furthermore, Jews and Christians are dealt with differently. This concept, for lack of space, can be summed up with, God's methods of dealing with His people change in the dispensations. More on that another time.

Today prophesy= to speak. Yes one who prophesies can teach. As said before the Bible has restrictions on whom a woman may have dominion over when teaching: doctrine, 1 Tim. 2:12; authority in church, Titus 1:5-9; 1 Tim 3:1-7. It is a shame for woman to be a PREACHER in church, 1 Cor 14:35. A "prophet[ess]" (seer) is an OT/Jewish concept.

    Your cherry picked verses:

Acts 2:17, end time prophecy. Acts 21:8-9, good for them. Luke 2:36, read the verse and above sentence. 1 Cor 11:5 read the epistles and you'll understand.
  • D.J. - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
    Judy May,

Try to be not discouraged by people looking to keep you down.

Go forward boldly with the Lord Jesus Christ as your covering.

May God bless you in doing what God has called you to do.

He will show you the way.
  • D.J. - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
    Vincent Calvert,

Do you know what God has in store for Judy May?

Are you telling Judy May to keep silent concerning the word of God and not offer help or understanding to those that are confused or have never heard?

Are you really that confident in your understanding of the word of God to be the judge of Judy?

Why would it matter that Deborah was a Jew?

    Does a prophet not teach?

Therefore, does a prophetess not have the same ability to teach?

If a woman does not have a husband and lives alone, who is the head of her household?

If you are only speaking "expressly of Christian matters," then what do you do with Acts 2:17 or Acts 21:8-9?

How do you explain Luke 2:36 or 1 Corinthians 11:5?

Do "sons AND daughters" not prophesy in the end times?
  • Vincent Calvert - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
No need to get snarky there.

Hold onto your seat Mixster...aand away we goo...

Deborah was a Jew. I am speaking expressly on Christian matters.

It is an easy distinction for the serious Bible student. Thank you for your question.

"What are you going to comment, on that?..?

God chose Deborah to be a Judge. What are you going to comment, on that?

    Did God make a mistake?
  • Vincent Calvert - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
What is it God has called you to do?

The Bible expressly says women shall not have authority of man in areas of teaching doctrine and spiritual matters ( 1 Timothy 2:12).

1 Timothy 3 speaks of the leadership within the church and how only men shall hold those portions of authority. Bishop (Pastor) is to be a husband of one woman. It does not say the bishop shall be the wife of one man etc. Look at all those masculine pronouns.

The serpent beguiled Eve: 2 Corinthians 11:3, then Eve technically lead Adam to sin, even though he should have known better ( Genesis 3:6).

As you can see in the marriage hierarchy, it goes: God, husband, then woman ( Ephesians 5:24,25).

Man has authority but is not to be a dictator. He is to protect his family and church both spiritually and physically. Any man that does not take into consideration anything a woman says simply because she is a woman, is unscriptural. But there is a biblical time and place for woman to serve. Female pastors are unbiblical. Female teachers (of doctrine etc) is unscriptural if teaching men. A woman is to be taken seriously and to be treated lovingly, but she cannot do everything man does.

Women have and do play a major role in christian faith in many areas including teaching young women and children ( Titus 2:4).

As the above comments show, women can prophesy, which mean they can proclaim Biblical truth. With all things, it must be done according to the Bible.

Do not listen to anybody who says "do not worry about what man thinks." This is not a Biblical mindset as the man is to provide sound, biblical guidance. This does not mean a woman can only get info from men (as earlier in my post).

Also, (brief history lesson) all pagan religions worship a female goddess. Could this also be the reason why God chose man to be the leader of church, family, school etc.?

The Bible was written by a holy an perfect God. THE God of the universe and beyond. What is written in there is truth and should be taken seriously

Prayer. Nobody really wants to do that. However, our Lord Jesus sits at the right hand of God: every day, every night, 24/7 and intercedes for Christians around the globe.

There's a prayer request room on this website, that is full of people waiting for someone to agree with them on touching their needs.

Check the "thread" button to see if they've been prayed for YET.

Prayerlessness of the Church of Jesus has gotten us, all of this trouble we're going through.

SEPTEMBER 26 has been set aside as a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER.

Google your community to see if and where people may be meeting.

If you're old or disabled, we still need to be a part of that.

Do not worry about what man thinks.

    Follow God's example.

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

    Romans 3:25

Says Christ died for sins Past

So we avoid sins future by living in obedience and confession of sins if needed .

Otherwise we could be living a life of sanctioned sin and that will never be approved of God .

We can also help those in error and cover a multitude of sins by loving them and helping them rather than judging them alone . Not easily done . People can go into apostasy , by ignoring obedience and continuing in sin .

The mark of a Christian is obedience, but false teaching can cause some to go astray into sin .
