1 Samuel Chapter 30 Discussion

Stanley Adkins, it appears the two words have the same meaning. In the King James version there is "encouraged," while in the English Standard and NASB bibles the word there is "strengthened." David encouraging himself and strengthening himself most likely consisted of praying to God fervently and thinking on how God promised him he would be king, delivering him from Saul among many other things.

Verse 8; David was wise to inquire of the Lord before taking a step. He knew only God would know the outcome of His actions and needed to be sure that God would grant Him victory. We must always keep God as number one in our plans.

Verse 8: David did not just react to the situation based on his emotions, but he inquired of Jehovah God. We can imitate his example and look to God for the best decisions to make.
  • Anne on 1 Samuel 30 - 7 years ago
David showed good spiritual leadership in the way he handled this loss and victory. He looked to God for encouragement and when he was successful he realized that it was by God's help. Therefore he did not agree to keep the spoils for himself and his soldiers but distributed them all around. Everything we obtain belongs to God for it is He who gives us the power to get wealth. (Deut.8)
  • Peter A. Okebukola on 1 Samuel 30 - 7 years ago
God will ever give us victory if we trust and depend absolutely on Him.

Sometimes in life you may have very genuine reasons to complain or just be down and feel low. But from the story of David and the Amalekites we see that God wants us to live beyond our current circumstances and situations in life, God wants us at all times and in every way to learn to praise him. When you praise God at such times you elevate your spirit and mind and you are able to see beyond your circumstances Here, praise is the key. Learn to praise God, Learn to give thanks and enquire to the Lord. If he did it for David and his men he will surely do it for you. You are blessed and anointed to pursue, recover and bring in some more. God bless you.

vs.21-25 They that went to war and they that tarry behind received equal reward through king David. This is to prove the scripture right that said: "one man planted, another watered it, God makes it to grow. " here David understood that victory comes from the Lord alone and no man should boast in his own power and achievement.
  • David adjartey on 1 Samuel 30:6 - 10 years ago
But David strenghtend himself in the lord God
  • Alton on 1 Samuel 30:8 - 10 years ago

Definately there is nothing we enquire from God that He can not do,David enquire from God and was led to pursue,he act with faith and by His grace he recovered All.I also require obedience to the word of God.(1sam.23:2,4)
  • Pastor Godwin .N.Harrison. on 1 Samuel 30:8 - 11 years ago
We have a God that knows all our needs and challanges, both physically and spiritually. He wants us to call upon Him in the times of trouble, and seek in order to find(recover),( Jer 33:3;Math 7:7).David enquired,he recieved an answer, and authority to pursuit, the grace to overtake, and the divine favour to recover all. This time, the Lord God will give you the power to pursuit, special grace to overtake, and the divine favour to recover all your stollen blessings, and restore unto you the years that the locust hath eaten,in the name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ;Amen!.
  • Samuel on 1 Samuel 30:8 - 11 years ago
Until you inquire, you cannot recover! Until you pursue, you cannot recover! Until you overtake, you cannot recover! God's plan for you in 2013 is for you, your family, ministry, business, career, etc, to recover All-not just 30% or 90%, but All and not Nearly All, But All. Esther 8:2 . And the King took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. Prayer and fasting changes situation. Always look unto God. Jeremiah33:3. Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvellous things that you know nothing about.
  • Kenas Otieno on 1 Samuel 30:8 - 11 years ago
Learn to seek God when making decisions even in cases that seem obvious to us. God's guidance is the best.
  • Jude nwosu on 1 Samuel 30:8 - 12 years ago
David and his men wept, weeping cannot bring them back. We need to seek God, Matthew 7:7. Seek and you shall find, Isaiah 9:6 says He is Wonderful Counselor, He knows all things. Anytime we are in problem the only person to call is God, not to care for nothing, Psalm 50:15. The bible says the moment David enquired from the Lord, God gave him the answer.
  • Christopher cleveland on 1 Samuel 30:7 - 12 years ago
David was calling out for what God had put together not just an ephod but God’s calling in David’s life. David must have been encouraging himself in the lord at this point saying I know him whom I serve, I know if God be for me, who can be against me. I’m getting a grip on my calling, I’m walking in God’s will, I’m tired of running, 'bring it to me', he said.
