    In 1 Samuel 5-6 (KJV), God afflicts the Philistines with emerods in His anger over their taking the Ark of the Covenant from the Israelites. The word translated "emerods" in the King James Version comes from a root word literally meaning "to swell," and the Hebrew word translated "emerods" literally means "mound." This is basically all we know about emerods, but the context has led historians and Bible commentators to conclude that the plague of emerods was actually an occurrence of tumors, boils, or possibly hemorrhoids or "piles." Most translations of 1 Samuel 5:6 say the affliction was "tumors"; the ISV says "tumors of the groin"; and the Darby translation says "hemorrhoids."

    Emerods is an ancient way of referring to hemerrhoid.

    In biblical times, being smote with an affliction of Hemorrhoids or "Emerods" was considered an appropriate celestial punishment for high sins and misdemeanors.

    Jehovah did not like unauthorized eyes casting glances at the contents of the Ark of the Covenant which reputedly contained the stone tablets on which the 10 commandments were written, along with Aaron's rod and a golden jar of manna. This happened a lot when the Philistines captured the Ark at the battle of Eben-Ezer where the Israelites were defeated with the loss of 30,000 men. Curiosity about what was in the Ark got the better of the victors.

    When bad things started happening to the smitten Philistine's bottoms, they were happy TO RETURN THE ARK to it's rightful (Israelite) owners.

    "The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed."

    Deuteronomy 28:27 (KJV)

    9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it (the Ark of the Covenant) about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

    12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

    What happend to the story of Samuel? Did we jump forward in time? When was the ark of God stolen by the Philistines and why? Maybe next chapter will explain that and I have to learn to be patient?

    It is very interesting the name of the begotten son and our father,so many interpretations,I have went back and forth on what to call them,yashua machite,yaway,yashua,-prob not soelled right,I have been so use to hearing JESUS and GOD,I have wondered if their the appropriate name,seeming how it wouldn't be the first time I've learned what I learned through Christianity was not completely correct..

    Although we shouldn't worship objects as though that's what connects us to GOD he did warn that if these HOLY objects be touch that death be upon them in previous chapters,the LEVITIES carried z TABERNACLE and set it up,it was the inheratence of Aarons family and he and his son after had to cover it and do other things in order to do it appropriately,and these people did not know of these things..

    Our God is awesome and should be respected and worshiped in awe. You cannot afford to "mess up" with where God has His awesome presence- The Ark of the Covenant. This is why I have been taught by my parents to give reference to the Holy Bible- a sacred Book where the Word of God dwells.

    Super Super God! What an awesome story. This passage came alive to me as if we've never heard or read it before. Can you imagine this same ark God took so much time to instruct Moses how to build it and only purified Levites could touch or go near it. The uncircumcised philistine carried it! Interesting what he did to their uncircumcised secret parts. As for Eli and sons, I pray we learn from them

    GOD showed the Philistines that dagon was no god. When GOD pushed him over he could not get up own hisown POWER, but had to be set back up by the priest.
