The definition of usurp is "to seize, take over, or appropriate (land, a throne, etc) without authority". Now if a man chooses to be taught by a woman then "he/a man" has given her that authority. At least that is my opinion.
.
However, I do not believe that women are to be elders - MEN who are instructed to do the preaching and teaching in a gathering of Christians. The passages which discuss this are the only place we need to go for this subject, not 1 Timothy 2:12. It only speaks of a wife usurping authority over her husband. [trying to teach him.] It is not a wife's place to teach her husband. That's all this says. Because of the other passages describing what an elder is - a man... - we have our mandate. That is all we need.
