Who is the 'I' in vs. 12? When in the chapter did Paul begin to speak for God? I do not wish to preach but I am called to teach. My pastor has informed me that I can not teach in our church because of this scripture. He also said that I may not read the poetry God has given me because it is preaching. I can sing it but I can't read it. reply p
1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Amen
I am thankful that God has given me a heart to seek his wisdom, and not the wisdom of men.
Those that walk in the light, love the light, they love words that edify. Those that walk in darkness, hate the light, they love words that destroy, and bring wrath.
Genesis 3:15-19 Your response is very sad to me. Getting kicked out of the beautiful Garden, sweating over the ground (planting) death, pain in child birth, women desiring to rule over men, Verse says, God says he cursed Adam and Eve, and all of mankind born after them, (born in sin) death, is part of it. Yet, you say, God did not curse Adam and Eve. I guess you do not believe what God says.
The woman was not cursed, nor the man; but the serpent! Read the account again please! God listened to the confession and witness of Adam and his wife, and pronounced doom upon the serpent for what he had done; declaring that Christ would come in the flesh and "break his head" through His own sacrifice of Himself into the hands of the devil's seed. The ground was cursed; not the man nor his wife.
Cheryl Dawn 1Timothy 2:14 "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." Genesis 3:17 He said to Adam,"because you have hearkened to the voice of the woman and ate of the tree,I commanded you not to eat".God cursed Eve because she allowed herself to be deceived, she followed Satan's deception instead of God's command. I hope scripture clears it up for you.
Lu2677; If I may? I think a lot of people were uneducated, but that wasn't the reason women were forbidden to teach and to dominate the men, but to be under obedience and to keep silence. The modern culture of some western countries, who have become spiritual adulteresses; congratulate themselves for things that are abomination to God, and STILL forbidden! But who dares say anything these days?
1 Tim.2:9"shamefacedness" is a noun; quality, concept, a state of being. A plural noun in this context for women professing godliness, use discernment. The opposite is:unrepentant, brazen, blameless, innocent. In the same verse is "sobriety", in the context of the verse it is related to;forbearance,restraint,discipline,self-control,seriousness. Doing what is right in the eyes of God.
To answer the comment"women did not teach back then because they were not educated" 1 Timothy 2:11"let the women learn in silence with all subjection" (this is during assembly with the saints, during a time of learning" The reason Paul gives is: v.13 "For Adam was first formed then Eve" V. 14"And Adam was not deceived, but the women being deceived was in the transgression."
April,1Timothy2:9 "modest apparel". Modest=not showing too much of the body (skin),decent. V.10 But which becometh women professing godliness with good works" (A woman professing godliness would discern if her clothing would cause a man to look at her and lust, she would not want to cause someone to stumble. A "good conscience" would be careful not to "offend" as in Acts 24:16.
Shamefacedness; (Greek - ai' dos); the negative particle [a] and "to see; (lit. or fig.) by impl. to know, be aware, behold, consider, have knowledge, look on, perceive. Thus; (through the idea of down cast eyes) bashfulness [toward men], and modesty or [toward God] awe. Reverence, shamefacedness. Quite a terrible thought (sarcasm) for a "Western" girl! But for a Christian woman, grace and virtue!
V. 9 - " ... with shamefacedness ... "; I looked up 'shamefacedness' in several online dictionaries. They all define it as - shame, embarrassment, etc. You'd have to go to the translation Paul took it from to see the true BIBLICAL meaning. It refers to a woman's non-made up face, washed clean. God lets you take His word as you want; that's part of His freewill to us. He's not a dictator.
To Sheila, 6 21 '15 - the donkey wasn't preaching from God's Word you're fighting against God. "No one but God will close my mouth" you're tempting God, be careful Sheila - please: you are loved ................
Aquila, Pricilla They were 'teaching' one person not preaching in a church. They were 'witnessing'. Apollos NEEDED their expounding on the truth of Jesus because he was doing some harm otherwise they would have left him alone.
To be on this site where others are truly needing help - and then to say things like, "you wicked people" - is an awful thing. There are people that are in depression and despair and that does not help.
The scripture is plain clear. Public teaching of women where men are present is what the Apostle Paul is talking about. There's lots of work for a woman in the Church. Only this one is reserved for men. Must we argue with God?
I thank God for the privilege given to me to study this book of 1Thimothy 2 ,it really change my ways of life ,one ,the spirit of given and it make me to know how to pray ,not just for myself alone but also for others may his name be praise ,Amen
Peter relation to today's world is true....and so men and women are ongoin with the practices in different churches that are against God and for them to saved thdy must repent their wicked ways Amen.
I believe there is an order of things, not to discredit anyone, but Jesus would want each of us to be faithful and obedient to the Word of God. I believe all things are possible in God who strengthens us
