Numbers 6:
26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Isaiah 9:
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Human versus not human-illegal spirits - In Reply on 1 Timothy 5 - 2 years ago
When Mary consented, the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and Jesus became human through her obedience.
Earth was created for man; for humans. Lucifer/Satan is not human. They are created by God, angels. God evicted Satan with his now evil angels to earth to roam. They are not human and have no bodies. They can borrow bodies of evil humans or creatures. I don't believe Satan had knowledge of what God was doing. He only knew Genesis 3:15.
When Jesus died on the Cross and shed his
Blood for Whosoever in John 3:16, the plan of God was now "in force". Genesis 3:15 was fulfilled.
Satan lost what he stole from Adam: authority. Wicked humans can give their authority to the Lord Jesus, or Satan. They must choose just one. We can only be born again through the shed blood of Jesus. He is the door and the narrow gate by which we are passed from spiritual death, into eternal life; and into heaven at death.
Satan is the one who hurts people. He is a Liar, a thief and a hunter of souls. He blinds people to their spiritual need of forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
Sometimes we get side-tracked by blaming God for difficulties in our lives. Death of people we loved, and many reasons. Satan causes misery and suffering. Jesus offers salvation from that. If our prayer life is active and strong in scripture, we can be healed even now, and delivered from satanic attacks (read book of Job).
Problem is if we don't study the Bible, we do not know what is available to us. Job was delivered from all the hurt Satan caused (loss of children, his wife's trust, property, livelihood; health etc). He gets it all back plus more, at the end of the story.
This is not a long dead story. It is scripture WE STAND ON when Praying to God concerning our needs. Concerning return of things eaten up by cankerworm and locust (curses and attacks from Satan).
Ephesians 6 clearly says Satan and evil spirits are INVISIBLE. We can spot them in our lives by their FRUITS.
When God looked at the blood atonement and saw it wasn't changing the Sun the Holy Spirit said prepare me a body and I will go down and give myself as an offering was it God that enter that body himself and came to earth himself and dwell among us for a short period of time
Hallo dear friend Earl Bowman in Jesus, for sure you are right. Thank you for reminding me i'll will begin today. Bless u in Jesus name, love i in Christ.
Free, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.
To truly understand the Kingdom of God you need to spend a good portion of you study in the Law and Prophets of the Old Testament.
Luke 16:31 And he said unto him, If they HEAR NOT MOSES and PROPHETS, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Acts 28:23 And when they had appointed him (Paul) a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the KINGDOM OF GOD, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
Hallo all, sometimes we all have questions. i read the werry first beginning as follow. And this thread seams to forget that Adam had a work too do in Eden the garden. He was a guard, and supposed to help God who Self was in the garden from time to time. This is reality.
And Adam and Eva was the first ppl in Jewish history and Jesus family tree. Jesus come for 2021 years ago. Adam and Eve was much far from 2000 years ago. Maybe 6000 years or soo. I gess the numbers of years stand more specific in Jews scripts and note's the exact time.
Please tell me if its wrong? I dont dwells in old testament too much. i have read it and have some good experience for how the God Word lives and work.
Joshua is my favorites and Jonah have a point when he is angry! God bless u all in Christ.
Hello, you started a new comment thread and began with "The Bible seems to contradict itself sometimes." and people responded accordingly. If that's not what you believe, you might need to make that more obvious.
I wasn't the one that said "The Bible seems to contradict itself sometimes......"
I was replying to Donna Pittman.
Keep in mind that in the Bible, things aren't always as cut and dried as they seem.
(eg. Jesus talked in parables and then had to explain to his disciples what they meant.)
For over 2000 years, godly men have studied, studied, studied the scriptures. They wrote books & commentaries and explained things we wouldn't have noticed or understood. Right? I'm no Bible scholar but I've read some of those books/commentaries or listened to Bible teachers. In the Bible, things aren't always as cut and dried as they seem.
(Like in Revelation 12:3 where it talks about, "a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads." C'mon man. It's not an actual dragon. It's symbolic of a political system, or something.)
Regarding Eve: Genesis 3:13 "And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."
Beguiled = wholly seduced. There's a good chance Eve was already pregnant with Cain when "Adam knew her".
More than likely, Cain was the offspring of Satan and Eve. By murdering his brother Abel, he did HIS FATHER'S bidding.
Abel was the offspring of Adam and Eve, as was Seth. Abel was murdered and God replaced him with Seth.
Genesis 3:20 "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living."
That doesn't necessarily mean that everyone "living" came strictly from Adam and Eve. Since all the great men of the bible came from Seth's bloodline, including Jesus- "all living" could mean "Spiritually" living. As opposed to the Spiritually dead like Cain.
I know this all sounds insane but there's a chance there might be a grain of truth in it.
There's no contradiction. Only human reason contradicts itself. You weren't specific in why you assume 2 people can't populate the earth? Is it because you're looking for an explanation for other races, cultures, and geographical distribution? In the event that is your hang up, that is explained by the Tower of Babel, where God specifically mixed people's language and scattered them throughout the Earth. It's my belief that he changed their races also, and that it just didn't happen to say that. For example, Chinese in China, Indians in India, Hawaiians in Hawaii, etc. Link
The Bible says that Adam and Eve had many more children After Seth was born. It's easily missed. I learned to make myself read Genesis real slow. I guess 3rd cousins could've married first cousins etc.
Sometimes reading the genealogy charts is helpful. Actual charts/maps can be viewed on google. Pick one that's Christian.
Dgjot God has never in his word contradicted himself, his word is true and pure Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words as silver tried in a furnace of earth purified seven times and perfect now not understood is entirely different.
"Why would the Bible tell someone to drink wine when strong drink is a mocker . Are they talking about grape juice or wine that swirls in the glass?"
Try to understand. When Jesus was born, God had sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins so that we could be reconciled to God.
Jesus was 33 yrs old when He started His ministry. Jesus's first miracle was to turn water into wine. After that the miracles happened more often: the sick were healed, he fed the multitudes with a few loaves of bread and a few fishes, the blind got their sight, the lame walked, demons were cast out, and the dead were brought back to life.
Jesus gave His disciples the authority to preform those same miracles in His name. ( Luke 10:1-20)
When Jesus was crucified and died, and buried, and God raised Him from the dead, and Jesus ascended into Heaven-
His disciples continued on preaching the Gospel of Jesus, and preforming miracles (like healing the sick) until the day when they died.
HOWEVER, the time of miracles was a one time historical event. The miracles were Jesus's credentials that proved He is the Son of God and that God had sent Him.
The miracles ceased when the last original Apostle died. (I think John was the last.)
The Apostle Paul who, wasn't one of the original Apostles was specifically chosen by God to preach the Gospel of Christ to the Gentiles. (Hence, Jesus appeared to Paul on the Damascus road.) When you read the Pauline Epistles you think they were written one after another. When in reality, months or years passed between letters. Paul was a very old man by the time he had written his letters to Timothy. The age of miracles had ceased to where Paul (or Timothy or any other of the other disciples) couldn't heal anyone. So he told Timothy to drink a little wine for his stomach's sake. (the wine helped kill the bacteria that was causing Timothy stomach problems.)
An occasional glass of wine is okay. Alcoholism is not.
"The Bible seems to contradict itself sometimes. I don't understand how the world was populated by only 2 people. Where did the people come from that Able was scared would find him and kill him when he was sent into the land of nod. Incest is a sin so who had those people?. I also don't understand how we were made in Gods image when It says God is a spirit. I need help."
The world wasn't populated by just two people. God created all the races on the 6th day. Genesis 1:26-31
(I don't understand why people disregard this and think Adam and Eve were the only two people on the planet.)
God rested on the 7th day.
On the "8th" day God noticed that all the people were just hunters and gatherers. Nobody farmed the land.
So he created Adam, then Eve. After they "ate the apple" God cast them out of the garden He created for them and they had to till the earth. Eve gave birth to Cain who tilled the land. Then Abel who tended the sheep. Cain killed Abel so God drove him away and he went and married one of the 6th-DayCreation women. By that time the 6th-Day-Creation people had multiplied greatly and there were thousands of them.
Then Eve had another son named Seth. It was from Seth's bloodline that all the greats came (Noah, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the Prophets and finally Jesus.)
And, it was Cain (not Abel) that God sent to the land of Nod, who married and had children. Genesis 4:16-17
God set a mark upon Cain so that people would not kill him.
I believe the Bible is truth and therefore cannot contradict itself. It may be difficult to fully understand at times but that falls on us as the reader or believer. God doesn't ask us to understand but to trust Him.
I agree with Adam; much of what God has done is not mentioned in the Bible. I wish that I could I could provide verses about this but it is mentioned that there are many things we do not know.
As for being made in His image, I believe that man was created in His spiritual image. God has feelings and so do we. God is creative and so are we, etc.
Wine referred to was alcoholic, because of verses like this John 2:10. Jesus' first miracle was to make wine for the wedding, so He must not have a problem in small responsible amount. And the Word also recommended it to protect against illness. There are many medicines, drugs prescribed today for medical reasons that in larger doses would be irresponsible and harmful to our body/holy temple.
I personally don't see wine referred to as a mocker as a condemnation of wine for all situations. Anything in excess is harmful and can be abused and become an addiction.
Sometimes people assume that something they don't understand is contradictory.
World populated by two people. Genesis 1:28. First, God made special provisions for Adam & Even and family as they were first. Of course it was not a sin to reproduce among their family, but the opposite might have been sin since God commanded them to reproduce. Just because at an unknown time after God made it a sin to commit incest doesn't mean that applied to Adam and Eve. People also accused Adam and Eve of having premarital sex, but obviously that moral law wasn't enacted yet and was obvious that Adam and Eve had no one else other than God to proclaim they were married.
Secondly, some believe God created more people either at the same time or slightly later than Adam and Eve, because of the reference to the land of Nod. If there was a land there, it sounded like a region populated by people and if so how did they get there. God probably had something to do with that. Not every detail is 100% described in the Bible. In Genesis 1-2 a lot happens and it can't possibly cover everything. So, it shouldn't be a surprise that one won't have 100% of the answers.
Made in God's image: yes, God is a spirit and we are both physical and spiritual beings. God can also be a physical being too- as indicated when he wrestled with Jacob, etc. Made in God's image doesn't automatically mean physical. It could be spiritual, or emotional, or other characteristics we have that are unique to us and not in other animals.
The Bible seems to contradict itself sometimes. I dont understand how the world was populated by only 2 people. Where did the people come from that able was scared would find him and kill him when he was sent into the land of nod. Incest is a sin so who had those people?. I also dont understand how we were made in Gods image when It says God is a spirit. I need help
As you will note, that these portions show what the Christian's attitude should be concerning the things we allow into our body or mind. We have many Scriptures about that which affects the spirit, but here it's the body. The apostles write, that though there may not be a specific command to abstain or avoid some things, we have to ask "Is it the right thing to do before God & man; will I be gripped by its power; will the thing defile me, God's Temple, where the Holy Spirit resides; will I still have full control of my mind & not let the substance control me?"
Your grandson is old enough to understand & relate to these questions I'm sure. There are many fine believers who can take a drink & still control their intake & behaviour of mind & body, but that shouldn't give us licence to imbibe freely, knowing that our downfall is ever lurking. We shouldn't see that a "deacon having a little wine" as carte blanche for all. We are all individually responsible for actions of our body, mind & spirit before God with Whom we have to do.
May God give you Terry, the wisdom & grace as you share with your grandson & the necessary spiritual fortitude to resist any such temptation that might be to his hurt. Keep tabs on his life & his friendships - it will be your part in watching over his soul.
That's always going to be a difficult subject to discuss, nevertheless extremely important as young people particularly, are under much peer pressure to 'try it & conform'. You don't mention whether your grandson's questions were just a general enquiry or because his friends were 'doing it' & therefore was being open enough to get your biblical perspective.
First off, drugs, any drugs are a No-No. I don't believe that even a little use can do no harm. It's the present curse in society & resulting in much irreparable damage & death. With alcohol or any substance that might be ingested (even foods), my continual urging is for restraint & conforming to the Word of God.
Three portions of Scripture that govern me in this area are:
1 Corinthians 6:12 "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any."
1 Corinthians 3:16,17: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."
1 Peter 1:13: "Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
I will daily pray for those in authority, for the lost, back slidden, and for the brethren in the field planting and watering the seed, waiting for the increase from the LORD.
