There are two pieces of scripture here that Paul uses to back up what he is saying. First of all, Deuteronomy 25:4 says thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn.

In 1 Corinthians Chapter 9, Paul says you don't think that God was talking about oxen do you? If you have an oxen treading the corn, you got to feed that oxen too or else he's not going to be around to tread the corn for you.

The second scripture is Luke 10:7, the words of Jesus where He says the laborer is worthy of his reward, or hire. So Paul is saying that we should acknowledge those who labor in the word, and in doctrine, and make sure that they're taken care of.

This goes along with what Bendito is saying which I completely agree with!

The best expose' for this verse is found in 1 Corinthians Chapter 9. The original reference is Deuteronomy 25:4 which means as the ox is working hard to get you fed, you should be merciful and allow for it to receive part of the benefit. A great Scripture in Galatians, Mishael. That was indeed the purpose of the Law, that ultimately it was to show to both Jew & Gentile that justification could never be by the Law, but by Grace through Faith. That obedience to the Law only brought death ( Rom 7:10; 8:2).

3:23. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

3:24. Wherefore the law was our SCHOOLMASTER to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Thank you! I love this commentary and responses. Many times a wife has had to deal with many issues surrounding this scripture as husbands placed as the head with the responsibility of providing and protecting. The help mate has many times been a great support to the head and has been severely and financially abused in the role reversal because the head is not providing.

An infidel indeed, Sometimes that head is a teacher/pastor who is so engulfed in the church they forget about home. Can we say they are so busy taking care of Gods bride they forget their own...

Bob, are you asking about 1 Timothy 5:12?

That verse has to be taken in context beginning at Verse 3 and going to Verse 16. It is Paul's instruction concerning widows in the church. There is a lot of information in these verses, and we would take those verses in context to understand Verse 12.

Verse 12 says "Having damnation, literally judgment, because they have cast off their first faith. In context, I think what Paul is saying in this chapter is that all people, husbands and wives, they are stuck in a situation where they must either please the wife, please the husband, or please the Lord. It's like what if we know what the Lord wants us to do, but we can't because the other person says "If you do that, I'll throw this lamp and hit you over the head with it!" What do you do?

As far as carnal goes, do you know that a believer can be carnal and it be perfectly normal? There is a normal carnal, and an abnormal carnal that can be applied to a believer in Christ. And since I don't believe salvation can be lost, I would have to say no to your question of them losing their salvation.

Do these early church members lose their salvation by yielding to carnal ways?

Jim Excellent advise. I believe contrary to modern opinion that God does want us out of debt so we can more abundantly support the coming revival upon our earth before the Second coming of Christ. Many believers today think that if they have an expensive car or house they are blessed. Unfortunately they don't tell you their monthly payments. Debt is not a blessing.

Verse 17: Elders who are taking the lead in the congregation in a righteous way and are hard working are worthy of special honor and respect.

"The younger as sisters, WITH ALL PURITY." We should work to insure purity in all members of the Church. A watchful eye on putting married folks and young men and women together in tempting circumstances. Let us not lay traps before our brothers and sisters. Remember, "But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, AND MAKE NOT PROVISION FOR THE FLESH, to fulfil the lusts thereof". Romans13:14. Be careful.

Vs 8: Thankful to God for helping us become debt free a few years ago. Providing for our family is so important. We also have found that without debt, God has blessed financially even more! My wife and I have also found a balance in giving more ( 1 Cor 16:1-2), enjoying more (Eccl 5:18), preparing for emergencies to avoid debt ( Prov 21:20). Thank you LORD!
