    Vs. 1-2

A functioning congregation is like a family. The young ones can look to the older ones as mother, fathers, perhaps even grandparents. In many churches there is a perversion, viewing each other as sex objects. We need to view each other with purity. Any romantic feelings that may exist in the congregation should be between two mature Christians with pure intentions.

Dear Timothy. I am truly sorry to hear about your misfortune. I pray that you are able to gather yourself together and stay strong in faith to our Lord Christ. May God bless you!
  • David Petrush on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 9 years ago
Reply to Kristyn Evans: Kristyn, I don 't know if what i am writing here is still relevant to your situation, for the fact that your comment was written in 2013 and now it is 2015. But still I will write. Remember what THE LORD says concerning marriage, "So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore GOD has joined together, let no man split apart. " So you and your husband are now one single flesh. Let us compare that to a single unmarried person. An unmarried person is one flesh with themselves, therefore if they have a problem they cannot simply divorce it, but they must work it out, sacrifice, and and do whatever good thing needs to be done to fix it in their single body. Therefore compared to a married couple, their singular emotions and perspectives, and thoughts are no longer preserved to their singular mind and heart only, but also to their spouse 's for they are now one flesh . Then the same as the single unmarried person worked out the problem in their single body, the married must in one body and mind, through GOD, work out whatever problem they are having. Not cast it aside in divorcement, save for the cause of fornication.

Paul is writing to Timothy, his son in the faith. Check Paul 's letter to the Romans chapter 14.17-23. This matter of drinking wine, and diet, is clearly allied with faith, as "the just shall live by faith "....we live by the faith of the son of God, not by the written commandments of the Torah when we trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ the gospel .

It is strange that the verse about wine is interjected in the middle of a whole different discussion. He speaks of spiritual matters, stops and quotes the wine verse, then continues speaking about spiritual matters. Doesn 't make any sense. It must mean something spiritual.
  • Antonio on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 9 years ago
this verse means you help your household first wife kids yourself before you can help relatives.uncle auntie mom dad bro sister.your marriage is first, god then wife husband and yourself and kid

With ref to verse eight. It speakes about if any provide not for HIS own house, he hath denied the faith and that man is worse than an infidel. My question is, supose the person is a woman because the man is unablle to work, can one say that the woman denied the faith?

Fern, three score represents 60. Score means 20. Widows may remarry but advised to marry a Christian. Then you both can focus on Christ. My grandmother never remarried and was widowed at age 55. She devoted the rest of her life to Christ and good works.
  • Fern herbert on 1 Timothy 5 - 9 years ago
I didn 't understand the widows role as a christian.would it be wrong for her to marry again? What did the threescore years represent?

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach 's sake and thine often infirmities?
  • C.Smith on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 9 years ago
But use a little wine for thy stomach sake, it 's clear to me, without any side effect. Amen!
  • Diyo Alex on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 9 years ago
A Christians we are not to encourage drunkedness and over consumption of alcohol or the use of alcohol for as an escapism from the stress of life. Our complete dependance must be on the Lord Jesus Christ...the worldly life uses alcohol for recreational purposes but we are encouraged to use a little wine for health reasons...hence not a lot for other reasons but for health sake...In context of the word G d encourages healthy living...as a drunkard will not enter the Kingdom of G d as the scriptures point out. Wine for Health! Amen.

Wine is also another term for grape juice. Juice helps with illnesses such as hypoglycemia which causes one to pass out. I just had The Lord speak to me this scripture and I didn 't understand it at the time because I don 't drink anymore but I just received a diagnosis of hypoglycemia and I now understand what He was trying to say. Juice is what helps an episode of low blood sugar. I 've only been drinking water for a really long time. This scripture is correct if you think of the context.
  • Willie J. on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 10 years ago
Many unbelievers provides for their family too.So to say that only we believers provides for our family. And it is not just in the Christian community.
  • Jonathan on 1 Timothy 5 - 10 years ago
If there has been any topic i love, it has always been matters to do with health reform. When Paul talks of "wine " he is simply refering to fresh juice. note that the Bible doesnt record juice anywhere from Genesis to Revelation and i tend to think that it 's because the word wine was used to mean juice. God made man upright but due to sin and many mischievous adventures, we invented fermentation for our alcoholic productions. see the following exerpt "Juicing your fruits and vegetables has long been thought to have healing powers. Providing an abundance of quickly absorbed nutrients, juicing has been touted to help cure everything from stomach ulcers to strengthening the immune system due to the high concentration of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals in fresh fruits and vegetables. For healing or detoxification purposes begin to change your diet by eliminating processed, over cooked food. Eat whole organic fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds, and eat a mostly vegetarian based diet including fresh juice at least 1 2 times per day "

Some of you speak as if you have authority on this subject, you do not. The Bible absolutely permits you to drink wine. Jesus said "Drink of this cup, Some of you speak as if you have authority on this subject, you do not. The Bible absolutely permits you to drink wine. Jesus said "Drink of this cup, For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. The old covenant was water. That was the miracle changing water into wine. Sin is everywhere and its not an action but a spirit. Do we not know that being a Christian is not just a lifestyle, its a spiritual war? Drinking of the wine is to find sin in and around us. John 1 5, For the light shine through the darkness and the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not. All of you please ask the Lord about this. Pray the Lords prayer

  • SIMON OKHASO on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
WAS IT THAT MIRACLES HAD CEASED? BECAUSE AN ANNOINTED MAN OF GOD LIKE PAUL AND AN APOSTLE FOR THAT MATTER WHO HAD HEALED MANY INFIRMITIES, WHEN I STAND TO TEACH IN MY CHURCH, I DON 'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHY DID HE NOT HEAL THIS YOUNG EVANGELIST OF HIS WHO WAS ALWAYS WITH HIM A GOOD PERCENTAGE OF HIS LIFE? INFACT TIMOTHY WAS NOT DEAD LIKE THOSE PAUL RAISED FROM THE DEAD. TIMOTHY HAD ONLY A MINOR INFIRMITY IN HIS STOMACH??? I MEA I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS.
  • FAVOUR INWANAKE on 1 Timothy 5 - 10 years ago
1TIMOTHY 5 20 Says that them that sin should rebuke it before all, that others also may fear. this is the best way to free from sin, when we are able to rebuke sin before others and comfess it out it will make us afaird of going back to it, though is hard but it will help our spiritual life. because the bible says we should work out our salvation in trembling and fear.
  • Victor on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
First of all God is not a God of confusion.in 1timothy 5 23...always remember that its for thy stomach and infirmities "sake " .hope we know what in quote means.
  • BoIT04 on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
Reading with the setting and the circumstances that Timothy was in in mind we realize that the prescription was for Timothy to drink in little amount, and little concentration, the alcohol. It was during this time that the water was contaminated so Paul advised him to let go of the legalism of maintaining purity from alcohol and instead take a little for his health. But if this was a private prescription to Timothy, why include it in the Bible which clearly can never be described as a 'Private n Confidential ' diary? For the sole reason that we should learn from its core teaching legalism to the Scriptures does not bind in a way that the life of man is threatened. Simple!
