John Chapter .1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Some people say that money is the root of all evil, but this verse points out that it is the love of money that is the root of all evil. Money has a useful purpose and we need it to live, but we must guard against loving money.

2 PETER 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. Based on the comments in this "Verse of the Day" it appears that most people need to STUDY 2 Tim 2:15 God's Word and let the Word speak.
  • Anne on 1 Timothy 6 - 6 years ago
The love and pursuit of money can lead to many sinful acts.
Matt. 6:33 Jesus teaches "Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you".

Vs 8. "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content." The world today, would quote that verse this way..."And having food and raiment, and stocks and bonds, and cars and boats, cell phones and computers, high fashion clothes, and big houses, and expensive jewelry, and credit cards, and bank accounts, and insurance, and retirement plans, let us be content. And call it, "Living by faith".

Verse 17~Paul was reminding the Christians what to pursue and what not to pursue. We should not make the pursuing of material things our main focus in life.

"But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness." Some may wonder why the Apostles gave so much in depth study to the workings of evil in men who oppose the truth; and so do they seek to stifle that same Spirit of understanding in the disciples today, thinking that it might be considered disrespectful. Do we please men or God?

3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, We must spread the GOSPEL that Jesus had Paul wrote, so we can reach the lost. 1 Corinth 15:1-4 GOSPEL

Verse 8 urges us to be content with the necessities of life. Food, shelter, and clothing.

Verse 7 is a good reminder that we came into this world with nothing and we leave this world with nothing. Meditating on this verse should help us to have the right view of material things.

The mouth of the just brings forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, says the LORD. Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gave his life for the sheep. And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In TITHES and OFFERINGS. Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: Thus says the Lord GOD: Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is NONE that does good, no, not one. A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the LORD hath spoiled their pasture. And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape. For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered. Howl, ye shepherds, and cry and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel. Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks? Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

These things have you done, and I kept silence: you thought that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations. Howl ye for the day of the LORD is at hand: it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit. I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against the shepherds and I will require my flock at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the flock: neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more: for I will deliver my flock from their mouth, that they may not be meat for them. Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! SAYS the LORD. Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished: Howl ye, Woe worth the day! I am he that lives, and was dead and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of hell and of death.

MONEY IS NOT EVIL ITSELF BUT "LOVING" THE MONEY IS WHAT IS EVIL, WE OUGHT TO LOVE THE LORD OUR GOD ABOVE ALL THINGS BECOUSE IT IS HE WHO GIVES US POWER TO GET WEALTH.

verse 7 tickles me; I can just see Paul's expression of - 'duh' - as he writes this.

Jesus is the only Jehova Jireh the Lord my Provider. God will supply all our NEEDS but not our wants. People who look after the money only and do evil things just to get the money this is one of the evil desire. Jesus wants us to trust his will that he is supplying our needs so that we all must have life in abundance God is faithful to his promises he will never leave us like an Orphan Amen
  • BSP on 1 Timothy 6 - 7 years ago
Money in itself is not evil but as this verse shows it's the love of money. When one has an unbalanced view towards money, evil thoughts and actions are the result.
  • Eliiah on 1 Timothy 6 - 7 years ago
Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD sees us not, the LORD hath forsaken the earth. Therefore let us lie in wait for the righteous because he is not for our turn, and he is clean contrary to our doings: he upbraided us with our offending the law, and objects, to our infamy, the transgressing of our education. Son of man, thou dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not, they have ears to hear, and hear not: They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth for they are a rebellious house. He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, see thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? And though they say, The LORD lives, surely they swear falsely. And here men that die receive tithes but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives. Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.

As a Christian in this chapter God's speaking to us When we aren't about Gods Law in Psalm 23:1, He said he'll supply our needs this means money also. But we take things out of context and used our own needs. People think God doesn't exist anymore because figure never bless them everything they have they made it happen? I say again God's not marked by our own unstanding.
