Paul was recommending that his fellow worshippers cultivate the spirit of generosity.Even in difficult economic times today,we should try to promote a generous spirit.
  • BSP on 1 Timothy 6:6 - 10 years ago
This verse shows that it is very beneficial to have contentment along with godliness. We must learn to be content with the things that we have and not always strive after the things we want.
  • BSP on 1 Timothy 6:18 - 10 years ago
This scripture promotes a generous attitude. We should be willing to share what we have and look for opportunities to share. This will upbuild others and draw people closer together.

Halaluyah! The scripture has made it known to us that the power of greed and the love of money hanker our lives to all kind of evil which ends in brutality and as well hell. We are ment to understand that, it is the love bestow on money not money itself, for the book of ecclesiastis 10 vers 19. Says that money answereth all things, that means that money is good but not for love. God bless you.
  • Pastor ebenezer on 1 Timothy 6 - 11 years ago
In fact, money carries weight. if we continue to think that money is the spirit of man then, we will always desire to do ungodly things.no wonder some people now sleeping with mad people, killing, carrying coffins and a lot.we need to be okey with what we have, who we are and what we can do and wait patiently upon God for the rest to be done.NEVER SELL YOUR SOUL TO THE DEVIL AND REGRET LATER.stay blessed
  • BSP on 1 Timothy 6:10 - 11 years ago
I enjoy this scripture because it shows how the love of money leads to all types of evil. People murder for money, steal for money, lie for money, sell themselves for money, betray their friends and family for money and so many other evil things. Money in itself is not bad. In fact Ecclesiastes 7:12 brings out how money is a protection. It's when people place the love of money above all else that leads to the various types of evil.

Father; Dear heavenly Father; We come before you today, in the name of Jesus Christ, and ask, that you grant us the Spirit of reverence, and obedience, toward our earthly masters, especially to our masters that believe in you; that we don't dishonor them; which is us dishonoring you. Keep us from speaking unwholesome words, deliver us from the spirit of pride; that we don't fall into religious arguments, and desires to be seen by all as correct, but grant us we pray; godliness with contentment, and bless us to be pleased and satisfied, with what we have; that we abstain from covetousness; that greed be not apart of our members, and fill us with godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness; that we be just like you, and glorify you, and let us show to the world how wonderful you are, through our new ways and conduct.. ... Let people say of us "YOU'VE CHANGED, AND WE DON'T RECOGNIZE YOU" Let it be all to the glory of you heavenly Father.
In Jesus name we pray Amen.
  • Wesley oneal on 1 Timothy 6 - 11 years ago
Jesus taught that no man can build upon the foundation then that which is already laid, meaning Christ taught that those who possess great wealth should rid themselves of it and follow him. And they will layup treasures in heaven, as the parable of the goodly pearl indicate.
  • Wesley oneal on 1 Timothy 6:18 - 11 years ago
It is important for Christians to understand the dangers of laying up treasures for self consumption, because it reveals the true condition of the heart. Jesus taught that those who lay (theo) up treasures for themselves are not rich toward God. It is God that gives all things richly to enjoy, not wealth. Remember it was Jesus who taught that “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth”.

This is of a truth! Many of God’s creation disregard or neglect his will, to do their own will and chase after money. And for their greediness of gain, God takes his spirit far away from them. For example: Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, and much much more people, who, desire the worship building to look good, have chased the money for it! We are far from God! God said in Isaiah 54:8-9, my ways are not your ways, and my thoughts are not your thoughts, (verse 9), for as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways!!! God is telling us, while your mind is stuck on earthly things, such as: the worship building/or most call church, I send my people on a mission to tell my people about me, that they may turn from their ways to the living God and be healed ( 2 Chronicles 7:14, Ezekiel 33:8). Because God's wrath and anger is kindled/or started, and fire consumes or destroys the earth and the inhabitants or dwellers thereof/that live, remain, or stay in them... our mission from God through Jesus Christ is to call to repent, turn from our ways and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, or walk in them. God bless you! Amen.
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 Timothy 6 - 12 years ago
Thank the Lord for food, and clothing. Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we will take nothing out. We must seek righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. These are the qualities that God wants us to have when Jesus returns for the church.

Heaven and Hell are true .They are like the air we breathe. Our body perishes but soul never dies. In hell there is suffering but joy in heaven. It is important to give some time to our soul as we give time to our body. God has given self-will to do decide where to go. He never compels us. But He loves us. Many people have made effort to reach Him through good deeds or visiting Holy places. I have found peace joy in Jesus. We have a great hope we will meet Jesus when we die. He is coming soon to take up those who believe in him. It is worth Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Tv evangelist and the prosperity gospel.
  • Hope McCloud on 1 Timothy 6 - 13 years ago
Godliness without contentment results in the "prickly" Christian, tending to compare his life with others instead of looking to Christ for the standard.

Contentment without Godliness results in the "back-sliding" Christian, uninterested in seeking the Holy Spirit's aid to righteous living.

Godliness with contentment is indeed great gain.
  • CATH on 1 Timothy 6 - 13 years ago
the bible tells us that people perish for a lack of knowledge, the beginning of knowledge is the fear of the Lord. the scriptures clearly state that those who believe on Jesus is saved. ( Ephesians 2:8-9) - "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no man should boast. we live righteously because we are delivered from sin, it has no hold on us, therefore we can be spotless and must remain so. the only work God requires of us is to spread the gospel, the good news that Jesus is the savior of the world because he died and rose again for our sins. the blood of goats etc was not sufficient. living righteous is not works.
  • Don Spencer on 1 Timothy 6:19 - 13 years ago
I think it flies in the face of what all the churches say is how to get saved. This verse as well as many many others make it very clear that salvation comes through works of obedience.
  • Elvis on 1 Timothy 6 - 14 years ago
1 Timothy 6. clearly indicates that so much noise made about prosperity is not the main focus of the gospel. Paul urges Timothy to flee these things and follow after godliness, faith, love and meekness (fruit of Spirit).Contentment is something lacking in today's church money has become her centre of attention. Those who are pursuing money are not doing so to share as taught by Paul but to brag how much they are worth.
