20¶ And Herode was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and hauing made Blastus the kings chamberlaine their friend, desired peace, because their countrey was nourished by the kings countrey. 21And vpon a set day Herod arayed in royall apparell, sate vpon his throne, and made an Oration vnto them. 22And the people gaue a shout, saying, It is the voice of a God, and not of a man. 23And immediatly the Angel of the Lord smote him, because hee gaue not God the glory, and hee was eaten of wormes, and gaue vp the ghost. 24¶ But the word of God grewe, and multiplied.

Ac 12:22 The people gave a shout. The people of Caesarea were, many of them at least, heathen. As we learn from Josephus, on the second day of the games, Herod, clad in robes of silver cloth, entered the theater, and standing in the sunshine, his robes reflected his splendor. Then he made an oration, and the people raised their shout: [It is] the voice of a god. It is thought that his speech was an announcement of his decision in the matter of difficulty with Tyre and Sidon, and that the ambassadors were present.
