14For it is euident that our Lorde sprang out of Iuda, of which tribe Moses spake nothing cōcerning Priesthood. 15And it is yet farre more euident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another Priest, 16Who is made not after the Law of a carnall commandement, but after the power of an endles life. 17For hee testifieth; Thou art a Priest for euer, after the order of Melchisedec. 18For there is verily a disanulling of the commandement going before, for the weakenesse and vnprofitablenesse thereof.

7:16 Who is made - A priest. Not after the law of a carnal commandment - Not according to the Mosaic law, which consisted chiefly of commandments that were carnal, compared to the spirituality of the gospel. But after the power of an endless life - Which he has in himself, as the eternal Son of God.

Heb 7:16 Who is made. The Levitical priesthood based their claims on a law of a carnal commandment. a fleshly claim, that of hereditary right. Eleazer succeeded Aaron (Nu 20:28) because he was his son, and so each high priest. The power of an endless life. The claim of the great high priest is not fleshly descent, but that he lives forever. He demonstrated his title to the office by rising from the dead. He was exalted to the kingly priesthood when he arose from the dead (Eph 1:20).
