8The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that reioyce, endeth, the ioy of the harpe ceaseth. 9They shall not drinke wine with a song, strong drinke shall bee bitter to them that drinke it. 10The city of confusion is broken downe: euery house is shut vp, that no man may come in. 11There is a crying for wine in the streets, all ioy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. 12In the citie is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

24:10 The city - Jerusalem, and other cities; for the singular word may be here taken collectively. A city of confusion or disorder, breaking all the laws and orders which God had established among them. Shut up - Because the inhabitants are either dead, or gone into captivity.
