22And truly the Sonne of man goeth as it was determined, but woe vnto that man by whom he is betraied. 23And they began to enquire among themselues, which of them it was that should doe this thing. 24¶ And there was also a strife among them, which of them should bee accompted the greatest. 25And hee saide vnto them, The Kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship ouer them, & they that exercise authoritie vpon them, are called benefactors. 26But ye shall not be so; but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the yonger, and he that is chiefe, as he that doeth serue.

22:24 There was also a contention among them - It is highly probable, this was the same dispute which is mentioned by St. Matthew and St. Mark: and consequently, though it is related here, it happened some time before.

Lu 22:24 There was also a strife among them. This contention probably arose while they were taking seats for the paschal meal, each seeking the chief place. It was rebuked by the Lord washing their feet (Joh 13:3-5). See notes on Mt 18:1-4.
