And hee left them, and departed. 5And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6¶ Then Iesus said vnto them, Take heed and beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces. 7And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is because we haue taken no bread. 8Which when Iesus perceiued, he said vnto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among your selues, because ye haue brought no bread?

16:6 Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees - That is, of their false doctrine: this is elegantly so called; for it spreads in the soul, or the Church, as leaven does in meal. #Luke 12:1|.

Mt 16:6 Beware of the leaven, etc. The teaching and influence which spreads like leaven. See Mt 16:12. The figure of the leaven was suggested by their need of bread. Sadducees. Mark instead of "of the Sadducees", says, "of Herod" (Mr 8:15). Herod and his followers were Sadducees.
