43But know this, that if the good man of the house had knowen in what watch the thiefe would come, he would haue watched, and would not haue suffered his house to be broken vp. 44Therefore be yee also ready: for in such an houre as you thinke not, the sonne of man commeth. 45Who then is a faithfull and wise seruant, whom his Lord hath made ruler ouer his houshold, to giue them meat in due season? 46Blessed is that seruant, whome his Lord when he commeth, shall finde so doing. 47Uerely I say vnto you, that hee shal make him ruler ouer all his goods.

24:45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant - Which of you aspires after this character? Wise - Every moment retaining the clearest conviction, that all he now has is only intrusted to him as a steward: Faithful - Thinking, speaking, and acting continually, in a manner suitable to that conviction.

Mt 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant? In Lu 12:42-46, is given a similar parable in answer to a question of Peter. There the Lord speaks of "the faithful and wise steward"; here he describes a steward, but speaks of him as a servant. Ruler. Preachers, elders, deacons, Sunday-school superintendents, teachers. Household. All under their religious charge.
