7There came vnto him a woman, hauing an alabaster boxe of very precious ointment, and powred it on his head, as he sate at meat. 8But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 9For this ointment might haue bin sold for much, and giuen to the poore. 10When Iesus vnderstood it, he said vnto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good worke vpon me. 11For ye haue the poore alwayes with you, but me ye haue not alwayes.

Mt 26:9 This ointment might have been sold for much. Mark and John say, "three hundred denarii" (Mr 14:5 Joh 12:5). Pliny says a pound, the amount in the vase, was worth 400 denarii. Given to the poor. A pretense. Judas wanted to get the money into his bag.
