The Bible says that we are to forgive. Could a prophet of God not forgive children for being childish in their ways?
  • MKHULULI NDLOVU on 2 Kings 2 - 12 years ago
We should always learn to respect the Lord's anointed.

This section illustrates the mystery of transference of spirits. “ye reap where ye bestowed no labor”, John 4:38.
  • Timothy Wayne George on 2 Kings 2 - 12 years ago
Elisha is the man of God, and he has received a double anointing from the Lord. Children are to be taught to respect their elders. So this is more a judgement on the parents. While Elisha cursed them in the name of the Lord, it was God that sent the two she bears as a judgement. These children were under the age of accountability, so they are in heaven. So this is why it is so important for parents to train up their children in the fear, and admonition of the Lord. Had these children been trained properly, they never would have said what they said to the man of God. This is a lesson for us to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

This is amazing! Really! All people die, including children. But a prophet cursing children and a god killing them?!? And for what; mocking a man cause he is bald. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Why don't you just kill anyone that mocks you or someone you know? You can't and you won't, why, because it is wrong and you'll just be a murderer!

    Wake up people!

Shows the willingness of the almighty god to defend his children and to fight their battles

THIS CHAPTER, WELL TO ME IS THAT GOD IS SHOWING ELISHA FROM THE BEGINNING HE IS WITH HIM. FROM RECEIVING THE BLESSING OF A DOUBLE PORTION, TO THE PARTING OF THE JORDAN AND THE CURSE OF THE CHILDREN. HE (ELISHA) CURSED THE CHILDREN "IN THE NAME OF THE LORD",. FOR AS WE KNOW THERE IS POWER IN THE TONGUE, AND WHEN WE CALL ON "THE NAME OF THE LORD", THERE IS NO GREATER POWER, WHEN YOU CALL ON IT IN FAITH.

I think is neat how Elijiah and Elisha, was so much like Moses, all parted water, all saw god as fire, all prophets of God,Elisha was just starting his ministry and these kids was making fun of him,You learn as you walk with God,I believe that two of these prophets will come back to earth during Tribulation,Eligah neverd died neither did moses
  • Boyd on 2 Kings 2 - 13 years ago
You would think that being called "baldy" by little children is something that a man could handle without going into a murderous rage. Apparently it is okay to get upset about such superficial criticisms if you are a prophet of god.
  • Liz rosenbaum on 2 Kings 2 - 13 years ago
Those with leprosy in the old testament had to go up to the priests - along these lines of thought I'm thinking these children were using to mock authority in their lives. This is my guess at least - the real problem was their hearts - total lack of respect for authority in their lives. Elisha, as the man of God, could see this and hence cursed them. Think about society where the children are raised with total lack of respect for authority and think of how safe it is for other people let alone children in the next generation - now you can hopefully see why God acts in ways we cannot see/understand at times - his eye is on the heart of men and he loves us too much to let us destroy ourselves altogether without trying to teach us the error of our ways
  • Liz rosenbaum on 2 Kings 2 - 13 years ago
The Lord is loving and merciful and the Lord is Holy and just. The instances where he judges sin - are not because he hates people but because he loves them enough to show them what sin does to them. When society allows sin to be accepted it destroys the society (slow but sure). He loves people and families and individuals. Those children died to teach us that we should keep our children and ourselves in truth and respect and obedience in order to live good and blessed lives. There are consequences to our actions. Good or Bad and we need to make right decisions in order to have blessed lives. Its hard for us to understand how/why God does things at times because He is loving and Holy at the same time. He sent His own son to die to save sinners - let's remember that! So that we don't have to face the judgment of our sin and we can live forever in Heaven with him! I thank God for saving me at an early age and for His Word to teach me how to love

Makes perfect sense to me. i mean the bible also says we need to train our children in the ways they should go, right? Think about this as more current standards, you have children killing, mocking and tormenting not just other children, but grown men and women to. It's the reward of worshipping flase gods, death. The hardest thing for many people to do is to love the Lord. The bible says that we need to love the Lord more than eanything, even our own children! If you can't do that, well...your dis-obeying the 1 great commandment Jesus gave us. Love the Lord with all you heart, and soul, and might.

It teaches that we should not give up in Christ eveif people discourages us coz there is a reward , God wil uplift u in a way people may not understand cz the word declares that God is there 4 those who seek Him dilegently & He wil not forsake them.

I believe all comments have misunderstood the message, and failed to allow God's Spirit to give descernment. However, childern in this passage represent "spiritual immaturity" in our lives and as we grow in "spiriturity maturity" God's word is destroying the things we don't understand...when I was a child I spoke as a child, now that I am grown I have put away foolish things...God is merciful! Elisha, was growing in his walk! The first comment was chilling but not unusal...!
  • Ben on 2 Kings 2 - 14 years ago
As a father, I can not imagine anything more terrifying than the thought of my child being killed by an animal while outside of my protection. Regardless of their conduct, I can't imagine a world where it is considered just to let loose a pair of bears on defenseless children.

If you take The Bible to be literal truth, consider the parents of these children. Consider the funerals. Consider the distasteful task of cleaning up the bodies.

These children, presumabely having not yet reached the biblical age of accountability, are murdered en masse by your god due to a man's baldness complex. That's a lot for any moral person to reconcile.

You go ahead and worship that god. I'm going to live my life of morality and decency and provide a positive example for my son.

    Religion poisons everything...
  • Vic on 2 Kings 2:24 - 14 years ago
it makes perfect sense to me. Elijah heals the waters in the name of the Lord and these ungrateful curs berate and insult him? if Elijah had been wrong to curse them, nothing would have happened. those miscreants deserved what they got. God judged them as only he can. Only man would be arrogant enough to insult or disagree with God.
  • Johnny Newell on 2 Kings 2 - 14 years ago
Attitude is everything! He curse these little scondrels because that had no respect for the man of God and God destroyed them outright for the naughtiness of their heart. As it is written the wrath of God cometh upon the children of disobedience. God brought it to pass in Sodom and Gomorrah because of their blatant and rampant homosexuality and lust, he brought it to pass in Eqypt because of the hardness of their heart and he will bring it to pass in America and on those that accuse God of wrong doing foolishly.
  • Gay douglas on 2 Kings 2 - 14 years ago
in vers23 why were the children in this verse cursed by Elisha because of his bald head? was there under the law a shame in this? thank you
  • David on 2 Kings 2:24 - 15 years ago
What lengths Wesley goes to in order to excuse this atrocity committed by god!
