verse 2-8 is 'another reminder' to those in CHRIST; verse 2-8 is liken unto the foundation / knowledge offered to be learned in school (home then grade 1-8) that prepare one for grade 9-12; thereafter hopefully 70 years of life and it's daily trials /battles; hopefully we rightly and timely learned because it is a intense battle to do in the winter that which we should have done in the spring.

This no doubt was Simon Peter's dying declaration.
In 2Peter 2:1, he declares expressly that grace, can be multiplied, in essence there can be a state of gracelessness, grace, additional grace and multiplied grace.
We can have as believers all that pertains to life and godliness, yet they come with conditions, even after we've given our lives to christ.
These conditions are found in 2 Peter 1:4-10

Kat, that meaning of virtue is referring to Holy Ghost power Lk. 8:46. In this chapter virtue is referring to goodness, right standards, moral excellence etc. Hope that helps! Glory be to God in the highest!

"Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance." When I think of all the labor and toil, the persecutions and sufferings, that God's Holy One's have undergone in order to bring the Glad Tidings to us today; it is absolutely revolting how so many think that they can still love the world and keep on sinning, and actually think they're saved!
  • A disciple on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
Kat; Virtue in 2 Peter 1 is moral excellence or perfection. I love this part in 2 Peter, for it shows us how to walk and not stumble or sin; and the kind of piety that will grant us entrance into the kingdom of God. I read these things, and then the Sermon on the mount Matthew 5-7; and it charges us up with joy and zeal in the Lord, knowing that He gives us everything to succeed in following Him!
  • Kat on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
What is virtue is it the mighty power that came out of Jesus when the women touched the edge of His robe

"Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." It is God's intention, in giving us all His Word, that we know and understand Him; and have all capability to walk in truth and love.

Reading your previous comment, that the 3 rd person in the trinity actually moved on Gods servants. His apostles tell us of this mystery. Their witness is a witness for us to believe in and that it would become real to each of us. I really enjoy reading king James version. I've read this version my whole life, and it still reveals something new of God everyday. Thank you for the revelation Peter

You cannot believe in evolution and Creation.......... If the world exists more than a billion years, we will find in every place a lot of bones, skulls etc. etc.. Men always like to show of to others how much they know, but the more we think we know, the more we realize we don't know and the best is still to come when Jesus returns and has to show us again what matters....Love the Lord, your neighbour as yourself, we still not succeed in doing so , so we look for other ways to fill up the emptiness! At the moment we destroy creation, because satan knows that he has very little time to do so and his servants are already working very hard, but in the end they will not win, because our Saviour will return in time to save us from the madness and then we will realize how foolish we have been in not wanting to know the most important thing in life......to Love!!
  • A disciple on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
"Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him..." Knowledge is power when we rightly act upon it. We never need be overcome by temptations. When we speak and act according to the truth, and stand on the Word, we cannot fail!
  • Lilian on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago

ray: Back up to Matthew when The Persecution and Tribulation started. Paul was a Hitler of that Day! Until he meant the Lord:Acts9:1-5/---we must through much Tribulation enter into The Kingdom of God. Acts14:22 The Sixth Seal is opened and The Day of Wrath has come(upon the lost: Revelation6:12-17/ whosoever was not found written in The Book of Life was cast into The Lake of Fire.Revelation20:15
  • Ray321 on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
Hebrews through Revelation is for tribulation reading. If we miss the Rapture, then the books of Hebrews through Revelation will come to pass. We can learn from these books, but we must be careful who is it written to. Food for thought. ...

    Faith comes from God.
  • A disciple on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
"ALL THINGS THAT PERTAIN TO LIFE AND PIETY...THAT YOU MIGHT BE PARTAKERS OF DIVINE NATURE." NOT for comfort or support of the necessities of the flesh; but for our sanctification in the Spirit, to grow into the image and likeness of God's character; which is our assurance not to stumble; and of our finally being accepted and welcomed into the kingdom of God.
  • Irene123 on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
Peter declared that God "hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and Godliness, through the knowledge of Him", ( 2 Peter 1:3). The way to become Godly is get acquainted with God Himself - through His Word and having His indwelling spirit to guide him in the reading of His Word.
  • Irene123 on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
Dear Brianna - I wasn't 'interpreting' scripture; it was just simply an interesting observation; I didn't 'change' any meanings.
  • Brianna on 2 Peter 1 - 7 years ago
    vs. 20-21
This places great responsibility on Bible translators and teachers. We need to do our research and get God's thinking on the scriptures before we try to explain it. By doing research we will be able to give an accurate answer. We do not want to be interpreting the Bible based on our flawed human philosophy.
  • Irene123 on 2 Peter 1 - 8 years ago
I s'pose that this is appropo of - nothing, but I just noticed v. 14 - which harkens back to Jn. 21:19. 1 Pet. is yrs. later from Jn.21:19. I don't imagine Peter 'caught' Jesus' drift right at the time, but by now he's 'experienced' enough - he understands. It's beautiful how the Lord shows you things in His word. I'd never 'connected' these two before now.

Mark 4vs10 says the knowledge to know the secret of the kingdom of heaven!by the spirit of God a Christian doesn't given a limit where to reach in the grace, because the more you grow in the grace of God the more His spirit become active in performing wonders such that you will go beyond your spirit gift,I the bible say I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me!

"For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones." Isaiah 57:15
  • MockingBird on 2 Peter 1 - 8 years ago
Grace is given to the humble : More Grace is given to the more humble : Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up. Peace is multiplied through the knowledge of God's word . I believe to have a close walk with God is to have time in His word and in prayer.
  • Mochael Jones on 2 Peter 1 - 8 years ago
It is true what2 Pt1:2 saysYou will only abound in grace and peace of God and of Jesus christ if you learn of.A similar scripture is given in psalm 92 vrs 13

If we cultivate and practice the things mentioned in verses 5 through 8 this will prevent us from becoming unfruitful or inactive.
