Verse 17: David lamented over the death of both Saul and Jonathan. Though Saul persecuted David, we see that David didn't hold a grudge against Saul or wish evil upon him.
  • Brenda Thompson on 2 Samuel 1 - 7 years ago
Clearly Irene123, you have read something that I didn't see. Scripture states that Saul fell upon his sword and died. Along with his armourbearer. The only person Saul asked to kill him was his armourbearer. At least that's the only person I read about. Perhaps you could tell me where you found your information.
  • Irene123 on 2 Samuel 1 - 7 years ago
There is no confusion in Saul's trying to commit suicide and the Amalekite killing him. Saul's 'attempted' suicide didn't work; he wasn't dead so he asked the Amalekite to finish him off. A lot of attempted suicides end not working.
  • MARIA on 2 Samuel 1 - 8 years ago
My view about Saul is this:he knew that his time was up.He'd come to the end of his reign.you know that you are finish when the good Lord's rejected you.the Amelike man, I think was acting with mixed motives.1.He could have easily tell a different storyabout.or find a better way of explaining the situation. So I think that David saw through his story and realized that it did not add up.
  • Pricilla Tables on 2 Samuel 1 - 8 years ago
    I like it so much
  • Dewey J on 2 Samuel 1 - 8 years ago
Brenda, I believe from the surrounding Scriptures that the Amelakite man expected some sort of reward from David as being the next ruler of saul's kingdom because David had a great reputation for being God's anointed leader. I also think the Amelakite man was near and saw the battle and after the battle was finished he went to get Saul's crown and bracelet to carry them to David. Glory be to God!
  • Brenda on 2 Samuel 1 - 9 years ago
I am confused by the confession of this Amelakite. In 1st Samuel Ch.31 verses 4-6: Saul killed himself after having been injured, and then his armourbearer did likewise after witnessing Saul's suicide. My question is: Why is this person confessing to killing Saul? How did he get his crown and his bracelet?

This love is clearly a godly love. Considering what Jonathan did to him, how he helped him escape from his father Saul 's arrow. The goodness of Jonathan remained in David 's heart. Who amongst us today would not love such a person as Jonathan with love more than of a woman or of a man.
  • Gabriel Apeh Onje on 2 Samuel 1:20 - 9 years ago
It means we should not use our mouth to bring shame upon our selves, family and the church. no body washes hes her dirty pant in the public this means we should protect our image outside and pray for God to interven. Bless You.
  • AbigirlNtibani on 2 Samuel 1 - 9 years ago
The love of Jonathan and David that is Agape love let us have that love and Saul killed himself he because of his sins e battle. David mourns for Saul even if he was his enemy David respected the anointing of e Lord upon Saul
  • Blessed on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
No where in the book of Samuel is there any mention of a sexual relationship between David and Jonathan. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and forgive those who spitefully use us. David loved Jonathan with same love Jesus has for us pure and undefiled as brother and sister. This love breaks the worldly sensual and earthly love or lust and ushers into a pure and undefiled love one another
  • Hugh on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
This message is for Gene and whoever is trying to compare this as Homosexual activity you are wrong. Stop trying to Justify Homosexual activity this a demon sprit and whoever is practicing this is a child of the Devil...
  • Pam on 2 Samuel 1 - 10 years ago
This is a wonderful chapter. The comments are awesome! The Amalekite "finished " saul 's death, at Saul 's request as he lay mortally wounded by his own hand. Yet the young Amalekite brings to David Saul 's crown and bracelet. The discussion about the love of Jonathan and David representing God 's and your encouraging remarks is testimony of faith
  • The Hound Upon The Wall on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
The actual order to cease homosexual activity was only passed on to one of the tribes of Israel the smallest, which was why this edict was passed. Sodom and Gomorrah were burned because Sodomy is rape not because they were homosexual. If anyone wants to know I took this from the footnotes of my family 's 1867 calvinist bible. It is not for us to judge, only to accept. It is not for us to turn our brothers and sisters away only to treat them as we would be treated ourselves.

Was Saul killed by the Amalekite or did he kill himself?
  • 1: Victorina on 2 Samuel 1 - 10 years ago
    Exellent I loved
  • Liz on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
This love is a pure love like Gods love towards mankind Gods love is like no other they loves each other like brothers like family
  • Fridah on 2 Samuel 1 - 10 years ago
This shows us how God had tested the heart of David and proved him. We even see how he responded after Saul 's death. He did not rejoice when Gods annointed fell he instead mourned for him. He knew saul 's weaknesses but he did not take the place of judging him because it is Gods work to judge. He honoured the king since authority is established by God. No wonder God made him king. For his heart was tested and proven.
  • Paula on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
I truly love what Gene had to say,but the bible doesnt say for women it says of women which changes everything. I too like Gene have longed for and dreamed of a love such as the one that David and Johnathan had. I searched many years.Got married had children ans still I searched, and then I found that love. Jesus Christ.
  • Derrick on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 10 years ago
I share this love or bond with my identical twin brother that no one but Jesus Christ can circumvent. We bond on that level I truly believe this is the love that David refers to with Jonathan
  • Bonnie bartlett on 2 Samuel 1:20 - 11 years ago
I agree with the above comments; Our love for one another should be of the love God so loved us,and gave his son for us We should celebrate one another and pray for one another lest the tempter tempt us
  • M on 2 Samuel 1 - 11 years ago
THIS TELLS ME THAT WE NEED TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DO NO HARM TO GOD ANOINTED 1 CHRONICLES 16;22 SAYS TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED AND DO MY PROPHET NO HARM.GOD HAVE ANOINTED DIFFERENT PEOPLE TO WORKS SUCH AS PREACH,TEACH,LAYING HANDS ON PEOPLE FOR HEALING.EVEN THOU SAUL WAS AN ENEMY OF DAVID, DAVID STILL RESPECTED SAUL AS GOD ANOINTED. DAVID RECOGNIZED THAT THE BATTLE WAS NOT HIS BUT GOD'S BATTLE.WE NEED TO REALIZE THAT GOD KNOW HOW AND WHEN TO TAKE CARE OF OUR ENEMIES. ALL THAT WE HAVE TO DO IS STAND STILL PRAY AND WATCH GOD WORK.
  • Phumi on 2 Samuel 1:20 - 11 years ago
Sorry I meant like David we should NOT publish it in Gath( to the world)
  • Phumi on 2 Samuel 1:20 - 11 years ago
To me it means the church is responsible for protecting the image of other christians when they fall into sin, especially great men of God, if David said such about saul it shows that the church today is a far cry from respecting the Lord's annointed. When a man of God is in trouble why should the church be involved in the Gossip and spreading of the news, even if it is true like David we should publish it in Gath(the world) lest the daughters of the philistines rejoice(unbelievers rejoice).
  • Troy on 2 Samuel 1:13 - 11 years ago

    God's Love is Brotherly Love
  • Martha on 2 Samuel 1:26 - 11 years ago
I do not believe that David and Jonathan was gay because the bible says that this kind of relationship is a sin. I know that David had a great love for Jonathan a pure love of the heart like the love God has for us.
  • Martin moyo on 2 Samuel 1 - 11 years ago
This simply shows the importance of loving our enemies, as he did by not being pleased by what the young man did. LOVE YOUR ENEMY.
  • Elaine on 2 Samuel 1 - 12 years ago
The love between David and Jonathan was pure, just as friends, why people have to black and white everything. Talking about homosexual read Leviticus 20:10-21. Remember that Jonathan had a son who was sick from a child and if you read 2 Samuel 9:1-13, you will see how David took care of him through the love he had for Jonathan; just love with no hidden agenda, read the word, study the word, and believe the word. Remember it will not return to him void but shall go forth for which it was sent. God loves you all or lean it is the things that we saw that he hates. Peace.
  • DZARMA EZRA on 2 Samuel 1 - 12 years ago
I perceive the kind of love that David and Jonathan had for each other, it was Christ kind of love that make someone to lay down his life for his friend, not homosexual lust. Homosexuality is sin before the Almighty God, if you are involved in it, repent and accept Jesus Christ.
