Verse 13: Tamar tried to reason with Amnon, but he was so short-sighted and selfish that he gave into his wicked desires. Amnon lacked self-control and the results were disastrous.

What was David supposed to do? Amnon was dead, Absalom was banished and fled! Why is the Righteous the first people look to blame when wicked men do evil? If there had been any of David's sons to receive the Spirit of God and set his course in life to be perfect with God like they saw in their father all their lives, they would have mourned WITH their father over the sin, and not indulged in it?

    No justification for imorality

After reading many of the comments, I would just like to point out the only people that did anything wrong here are Amnon and David. Amnon, in is despicable act of raping is sister, and David for not doing anything about it. Yes, Jonadab gave evil counsel, but Amnon took his counsel. Absalom only did what he did after 2 years. Obviously realizing that his father was not going to make it right.

Peter; I know it looks like David had opened a door for the devil into his house, by what some of his sons did; but I think that they were already bad in their hearts, if that's the things they went after. David greatly repented, and the LORD said He had forgiven him the sin; but that because of his sins he had given God's enemies great occasion to blaspheme. David's sons made their own choices.

God's reprisal has started coming to pass over the household of David.

excerpt from a book, "Amnon Had a Friend." What is it that overwhelmed all the good things in Amnon's life? His failure came about because of his choice of friends. The power of friendship to make or beak us cannot be overestimated." 2 Cor. 6:14.

Amnon"s act was very cruel so he reaped what he has sown

Tama , what is mean? Why Asalom give name Tama for your daughter? Thank-you.
  • Liz on 2 Samuel 13 - 9 years ago
Absalom, Amnon and Tamar share the father who was King David. They were not cousins. They were half sibling. Jonathan was their paternal cousin.

In the book of Leviticus it plainly states that such an act such as the one committed by Amnon, is punishable by death. He raped his sister!!! How perverted is that? He schemed and laid in wait for her and then threw her out of his little nest. Filthy and inexcusable.

What horrible creatures we have here in the persons of Amnon, Jonadab and Absalom!! These are related, yet, acted as strangers to one another. Of all the ladies around, the only one devil laid in Amnon 's heart was his OWN COUSIN. What a shame! Jonadab, another cousin of Amnon gave an evil counsel against another counsin of theirs. What a demonic act!! Even, "beautiful " Absalom with a "monstrous " heart, haboured the offence of his brother in his heart for 2 God giving YEARS. At last masterminded the gruesome death of his own COUSIN, Amnon. What a hell raiser!! Believers should be careful and should not allow themselves to be a specimen in the laboratory of the enemies like unsuspecting Tamar. May God never allow the evil ones to make us to rent apart the beautiful robe of many colors given to us as the Bride of the Lamb in Jesus Name! Amen.

For those who object to Absalom killing Amnon what should have been done to him then David did nothing about the rape and I am sure that made Absalom even angrier David apparently like Jacob did not feel their crimes needed punishment and therefore did nothing about their son s behavior
  • Sellinah on 2 Samuel 13 - 11 years ago
Amnon's act on his sister is totally unacceptable. However to take a soul is more dreadful to human nature. It's a lesson somehow to us all that we should trust people with reservation
  • Maril Ruto on 2 Samuel 13 - 12 years ago
    That was cruel sadly!
  • Sanobia on 2 Samuel 13 - 12 years ago
The rape of Tamar at the hands of her own brother is terrible Does it justify Absalom to kill is brother though?
  • Traceyewright on 2 Samuel 13 - 13 years ago
    IT'S a sad situation on both behalfs i could'nt
say it was justified for absalom to take his
brother's life but the crime that amnon comitted
    was un called for also.
