Hello Dorothea. Could you clarify whether you're referring to Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah ( 2 Samuel 11:3), or to the Queen of Sheba who came to visit King Solomon ( 1 Kings 10:1)?

Though to answer your questions, if either of these women only are being referred to, then neither were stoned or impregnated by Solomon, according to the Bible. As well, the Queen of Sheba returned to her country after her meeting with King Solomon ( 1 Kings 10:13). We're not told where the realm of Sheba is/was located, but the main choices are in modern Yemen and in Ethiopia.

    Joab serving King David : 2 Samuel 11:14-25, in context: 2 Samuel 11, 2 Samuel 14, 2 Samuel 24:4,8,9,10,11,12,13, 1 Chronicles 21:4-5,

    1 Chronicles 26:27-28, 1 Chronicles 27:24,

Joab going outside of King David's orders, but for the good of David & Israel? 2 Samuel 18, 2 Samuel 19:1-8, 2 Samuel 24:1-3,

    1 Chronicles 21:3, 1 Chronicles 21:6,

As Chris stated revenge, Joab had went after before: 1 Chronicles 11:6-8, 1 Chronicles 11:20, 2 Samuel 3:24-28, 2 Samuel 3:30,

    1 Kings 1,

    1 Kings 2:5-6, 1 Kings 2:22, 28-34,

Hopefully this is useful in your study

Hi Victor. I believe that it was jealousy & then revenge that caused Joab to kill Amasa. If you read 2 Samuel 17:25, you'll see that Amasa was made "captain of the host instead of Joab" by Absalom. Then 2 Samuel 19:13, King David confirmed Amasa's position "continually in the room of Joab". So, as soon as Joab got the chance, he took Amasa by surprise as Amasa didn't expect Joab to be approaching him with an evil intent & was murdered in cold blood (Joab was part of Abishai's army). Thus Joab's revenge for not being made captain of the host was fulfilled.

    2 Samuel 19:13. Benson Commentary

And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

2 Samuel 19:13. Say to Amasa, Art thou not of my bone, &c. - That is, nearly related to me, being my sister's son. God do so to me, and more also, &c. - He solemnly promises to prefer him to the highest command in the kingdom; for he now thought it a fit time to depress Joab, who was grown insufferably insolent and imperious, and who, through his credit with the army, had protected himself in the commission of the greatest crimes. He had slain Abner most perfidiously in cold blood, and killed Absalom contrary to the king's express command, and now lately had insulted him in his sorrow. Having, therefore, now an opportunity of transferring the command to another person, who had as great an interest in the people's favour as Joab, he gladly embraces it, that so he might both chastise Joab for his faults, and rescue himself from the bondage in which that general had hitherto held him. Some, however, have thought that, considering Joab's very faithful services to David in all the changes of his fortune, and that his violent measures proceeded in part from a regard to him, as judging them necessary for his safety and tranquillity, David's conduct in this instance, in making Amasa captain of the host in Joab's room, is not an amiable trait in his character, and was not a prudent step at this time, especially considering Joab's violent temper: and, it must be acknowledged, it brought on the murder of Amasa.

    Hello Marcus,

Some careless bible versions are wrong to say Ira was a priest. No, Ira could not be a priest because he was not a Levite, but it says Abiathar was one of the priests. You weren't reading from the KJV because it will tell you that Ira was the "chief ruler about". That role was like today's Chief of Staff to the President of the USA, or an executive who is able to represent the ruler and give orders on his behalf

2 Samuel 20:26---does it mean that Ira was David's personal priest?

This story tells a bit like an epic - the Rebellion of Sheba. It's quite an action-packed tale full of politics, tensions between tribes, sieges, and lots more in a single chapter. Not only that, it also shows how power corrupts, as Sheba wanted to gain the power David had. It's quite inspiring that David, despite all the temptations surrounding him stood strong because he had his beliefs in God and even God himself on his side!

A good wife is also wise in this manner. She is always to make her husband look good, never to bad-mouth him.

Thank God for a wise woman, who called out to deliver Jerusalem from Sheba. When she had rallied the people, they cut off the head of Sheba, and Jerusalem was delivered. Never be amazed what a wise and peaceful woman can do. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper that do so.
