GOD be praised and magnified as we go about HIS work and to do so diligently. We wait for HIS coming; but we work and declare the salvation of the LORD, and pray for strength to "...not be weary in well doing."
May I faithfully execute the will of my LORD and SAVIOR to go and make disciples. Praying also for the leadership of our country and for the lost and harden hearts to be saved and to have the mind of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
GOD to shine HIS face on all who are on this forum; and to bless us gloriously. May our testimony in CHRIST show the peace of the LORD and cause others to thirst for the same.
GOD bless all the Saints to love HIS word and to trust and obey HIM.
Brenda remember Mary and Martha....Martha was troubled with much working and serving but Mary only wanted to sit at feet and hear his words....And Martha asked the lord to speak to my sister Mary to come and help me...I SERVE ALONE.
......But Jesus answered Martha saying you are troubled with many things but MARY HAS CHOSEN THAT GOOD PART THAT SHALL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER....The good part is to sit at his feet and hear his Words of the Kingdom.... Luke 10 :40
.....Jesus said to labor not for the meat that parishes but for that BREAD that endured unto everlasting life that the SON of man shall give unto you.
......Remember God furnished a table in the Wilderness....Take no though for your life what ye shall eat or drink .. Your father knows what you have need of b/f you even ask him...If he feeds the birds he will feed you....Trush in him for your everything.
It seems that there were those in Thessalonica who were refusing to work, assuming that since "Jesus would return at any minute", they didn't need to. Paul dispels the nonsense as laziness and reminds them of their previous policy when he was present. No work, no food.
God created man on the sixth day with two basic purposes by which he would fulfill his primary purpose to glorify God as a bearer of the Divine Image: working and multiplying. Perhaps multiplying could be left off in the New Testament Age based on Paul's teaching concerning singleness ( 1 Cor 7:7), and based on the fact that there seems to be no reproduction in eternity ( Mt 22:30). But working will be a part of our eternal existence. It is what we were made for, not only in this life but also in the next.
Each man and woman has been given a deposit of talent, energy, and resources. God will return and demand an account for our usage. Furthermore, he has promised that throughout our lives we are to live by the principle of stewardship and faithfulness, and we will be added increase as we prove capable. To refuse to work is an affront to the Creator and should not be rewarded or tolerated in the church.
The Gospel, unlike the Old Covenant, is not about rules, per se. It is about the grace of God that transforms a heart into a lover of God and his Kingdom and righteousness. But the apostles did sometimes give "rules" when necessary, and only those which accorded with grace and the Gospel. In this case, the problem of laziness was so prevalent, it had to be addressed as a rule.
There are certainly instances when a Christian is unable to work, whether because of a depressed economy, or a disability. But it is often the case that what is called inability is really an excuse for unwillingness. At nearly all costs, a human, an image-bearer of God, should make themselves useful and add value to their society.
Brenda, I think this Scripture indeed means that if one is able bodied and can work to earn what is needed to supply of one's own needs, then that person should be expected to work. And if a person will not work, then he/she should not be given sustenance because he/she is able to earn their own living but refuses to do so, thus resorting to handouts, which is stealing from the labors of others, in my opinion.
2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. Luke 16:20
As we know some are born blind, crippled, deaf, some never talk. This don't say its ok to draw a check and complain about conditions. Most anyone can find a way to do good and let our light shine.
A young man (lived homeless on the streets) who's dad was worth millions, got in contact with his son (a few yrs before he died) offered him his half if he would come home and do right - the young man refused.
The saying you asked about in not in the bible, but read verse 10 in this chapter which essential says - if you don't work, you don't eat. The message is clear - don't be a burden on others. God is willing and able to help those as he sees fit, whoever that may be.
That verse is not in the Bible ,it is a man made proverb and it couldnt be further from the truth , if you read the Bible you will see that God Himself is the breath in our nostrils and none of us would last one second without Him ,He is always telling us that we need to help the most vulnerable in our society and i belive as far as i can remember without checking ,that the name Lazarus means some thing like 'without help '. Make of that what you will ,may God bless you .

I can only think of John 20:25, indicating that Thomas had viewed the crucifixion but would only believe in Christ's resurrection if he saw the nail prints in His Hands & the spear wound at His side. However, crucifixion was a common form of execution by the Romans, & using nails for hanging the body in a perpendicular position, provided the excruciating agony they desired the prisoner to experience but not a protracted death resulting from an inability to lift the body to breathe.
I have heard that a small ledge was also nailed to the cross beneath the feet of the one being crucified to prevent the nails in the hands & feet from tearing through the flesh from the body's weight; but this fact I have not been able to verify conclusively.
No, this is not speaking of disfellowshipping. This is telling us God is the God of Peace. He's the Lord of peace. May He give you peace always through all things.
Literal translation: The Lord (is) with you all.
Now if He's the Lord of peace and He's with me all the time, then I can experience the peace of God, because, He's with me always, and He is my peace.
The section of scripture that talks about disfellowshipping is found in Matthew Chapter 18 Verses 15 to 20.
Ethel: I've seen many cases of this condition . They are similar but different. There is homeless, blatantly disobedient and "Failure to Launch", under-employed, etc.
I like the story I heard about a mother eagle. She pads that nest for her babies, but when it's time to leave the nest to make their own, she starts pulling out all the fluff, then the small branches till they're clinging to a few big branches. Then one by one she flys them up a mile and let's go. They learn to fly real quick.
We have to be a parent or friend that TEACHES, not enable. We care for them, teach life skills 101, help them with resumes, interview skills; how to manage public transportation; all the basics we learned. After they get a job, teach them about bills, saving, disaster planning, cooking, cleaning. It's not gonna work if you don't set your face like flint. Don't pay their bills or entertainment anymore!
You have to make time for this or they'll be yours for LIFE. Be strong in the Lord.
Hi Anne, I loved your comment. I would love to discuss it in more detail learn more from you about what you have learned had increased in you regarding the verse. Is there a way for us to email?
Farm owners who claim faith violate v10 continually. They refuse to work. Government handouts, free money and giveaways to male-dominated demographic in Midwestern U. S. ruined them. They are habitual takers, robbers and lazy thieves. Refuse to get jobs, refuse to work sun up to evening six days per week. Refuse to work at all. Lease land to others who use it to advance our enemies including China
There are many who claim to follow God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ we have to watch out and pray for guidance and protection and ask God to open our eye and give us the truth
I was taught that this is the commandment against being lazy. The Hebrews take it litteraly word for word. We should also and teach our children that goes hand in hand with honesty
May I faithfully execute the will of my LORD and SAVIOR to go and make disciples. Praying also for the leadership of our country and for the lost and harden hearts to be saved and to have the mind of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.
