Verse 3~We are living in a time when many do not want to hear about the Bible or do not respect the Bible.
  • Eutychus on 2 Timothy 4 - 6 years ago
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." You and I live in these times. It is more important now than ever, that we prove all things, believe not every spirit, examine ourselves, and be not deceived.
  • A disciple on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;" We should be glad for every opportunity to communicate the grace and knowledge which the Lord has given us; but we understand too that men are free to choose their own way instead of the way of the Spirit if they really want to. If they did so to the Lord "in the green tree" what should we expect from those kind now "in the dry?"

2 Timothy 4:6-7 6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. This must of been Paul's last Epistles knowing he was going to be put to death. That man kept the faith all the way through his life with Jesus. Praise the Lord.

Jesus preached about Hell, and Gehenna, and Damnation of the wicked, and the worm that never dies, and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and about a certain rich man who ended up "Tormented in this flame." "But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." "..except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

Steve; EXCELLENT SCRIPTURES, as usual! "WE ARE OF GOD HE THAT KNOWETH GOD HEARETH US; HE THAT IS NOT OF GOD HEARETH NOT US: HEREBY KNOW WE THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH AND THE SPIRIT OF ERROR." When we abide in Jesus, and His Words abide in us, we shall ask what we will and it shall be done unto us: herein is the Father glorified, that we bear much fruit. The good fruit can only come from the good tree!
  • Lu2677 on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
For the time will come when they will not hold fast to Christ's doctrine, because they covet and gather to themselves many teachers that are "soothsayers", because they have hearts that only want to hear what makes them feel good/special, proud, accomplished, important, safe, puffed up. I worked with a woman who said "When they start preaching about hell, I walk out."
  • A disciple on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Yes! and let's go further. The Father, He who sits upon the throne with the little scroll in His hand; hands the scroll to the Lord Jesus, so He can open the seven seals and look inside and read. John is there in the Spirit. There are seven lamps burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Reproaching the Spirit cannot be forgiven, neither in this world, nor in that to come.
  • Ren on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
As you can see, "in the name of the Lord Jesus" and "in the name of Jesus" speaks of "in the authority of Jesus." Therefore, when someone is properly baptized, they are baptized in the name of Jesus; that is, by the authority of Jesus. Therefore, when they are properly baptized in the name of Jesus, they should say, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son,and the Holy Spirit.
  • A disciple on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
There are no contradictions in the Bible, and it is always a case of our ignorance and/or inexperience that makes us have questions. The term "in the name of" implies power of attorney; so in that sense one does not annul the other; and if we are baptized "in the name of" the Father, it does not conflict with being baptized in the name of the Son and the Holy Spirit; but each part has its purpose.
  • Agbeyei nathaniel amakeme on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
You will need to understand that verse of the scripture very will before you will be able to accept why his disciples have to baptize in the name of Jesus, and not in father, son, and holy ghost.
Now let look at it.Jesus said baptize in the name of the father, son, and holy ghost. Please the emphasis is not father nor son either. The emphasis is in the name of the father and FATHER IS NOT A NAME?Is title
  • Ren on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
The proper form of baptism is in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as Jesus designated in Matt. 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." The clear command of Jesus is to baptize this way. Then why do we see so many instances in the New Testament where people were baptized "in Jesus' name"?

"...and they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." Now most of us are quite familiar with the really gross errors and sects which are obviously off from the Scriptures. But what also might be meant by; (as the Lord Jesus warned to beware of); the MANY who say all the right things, but are in truth gone aside, and are out of the way? What is, Another Gospel?
  • BSP on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Verse 4 shows that some would turn from the truth and listen to false stories. It is important to stick with the truth and prove what is true to ourselves.
  • Irene123 on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Hi JoAnn - as to God fearing saints like Paul - I'm sure you've seen, as I have, several of them on here, and there's LOTS more out there- all around the world - baptized in Jesus name, filled with the H.G., Acts 2:38. I am assuming you are one of us ... ? If not please do not be offended toward me, as I will not be to you.
  • JoAnn on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Paul had experienced God, he saw the seriousness of the advancement of the gospel. The Spirit was driving him. I fear that in 2017, we have lost the passion for truth. If we don't have God fearing men like Paul, I am afraid we will only have our ears tickled. God, help us!
  • Darren Le Brun on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
I Thought of it as i do most of God's words meant to inspire us, Very inspiring and also very convicting. As i know i fall so short of the mark, at present i find i am clutching to my faith as a life raft trying to keep myself afloat in my storm. Thank you Lord for all my blessings with your strength and guidance i pray it to may keep the faith and finish my race worthy of you. in Jesus Name i Pray Amen.
  • Jean on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Their ears are already turning away, having the "right" material things seems to the way of so many. preachers who teach only prosperity and not forgiveness and making their church's bigger and more wealthy without teaching the truth.
  • BSP on 2 Timothy 4 - 7 years ago
Verse 13 shows Paul was especially concerned about the parchments. He wanted to read God's Word and placed a high value on it.
  • Stephen on 2 Timothy 4 - 8 years ago
I believe that leaving a total Christian life and letting others live the same way is fighting a full battle.
  • David on 2 Timothy 4 - 8 years ago
God will also give you strength and courage to trust Him and heed the leading of The Holy Spirit.
  • MockingBird on 2 Timothy 4:7 - 9 years ago
Notice , the word says this is a Good fight : Many call good , evil , and , evil , good : The devil is the peverter of Faith : Run the Good race. I am not out to try to beat you or any one else : This good fight of Faith race it is an individual race : God gave each of us an assignment : I am to finish my course : and with Paul ,I am endeavoring to say : I have fought a Good fight , I have finished my course !!! I have kept the Faith !!!!
  • Lilian on 2 Timothy 4 - 9 years ago
We are saved by God's grace and He fought for us as the Battle belongs to God. Paul is passing on the baton for his work to be continued. He continues to prepare the younger leader for ministry of the Gospel and to carry on the work of Kingdom of God.
  • Bill on 2 Timothy 4:5 - 9 years ago
Be watchful. Far too many have stumbled in their ministry race due to allowing their thought life to wander down roads contrary to God s Word. Until we master the source of our sin, which is wrong thinking, our sinful thoughts will master us. Cr. Morris Gleiser 'Stay in the Race "
  • Mine' on 2 Timothy 4 - 9 years ago
It taught me the importance of Faith. Paul fought the good fight of faith, and finished the race. He said some would turn away from the truth. Faith is the shield that quenches all the fiery darts of the enemy. Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to him must believe that he is, and that he is the reward of them that diligently seek him. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his Glory the glory of the only Beloved Son of God. Jesus is the Word, and the Word is God the Father.
  • Cosmas Munhapu on 2 Timothy 4 - 9 years ago
Let us live the truth of the word as Apostal Paul did. Lord let my understanding of your scriptures mean revelations to me and believe to the Word so that I may stand firm to Thy Word and remain Faithful to it. Amen
  • Smith on 2 Timothy 4:8 - 9 years ago
I will receive my reward from Christ Jesus for my faithful life of serving and believing in him and to everyone else that are serving him as he wants them to do. Which shall be a reward of living an eternal sin free life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
