The vision has nothing to do with eating,
It is about the baptism of the Holy Ghost being given to the Gentiles, (if I may add, they were baptized with the Holy Ghost before they were baptized with water) read verses 44,45,46 then Peter says be baptized with water, read further on and Peter explains his vision and that is has to do with the baptism of the Holy Ghost when he returns,
Where exactly in this chapter does God contradict his ordering of man and the animals and declare that unclean animals are clean to eat? I don't see it here, nor do I find it in the Greek. If he is God and doesn't change, how can he go back on his original command? ( Hebrews 13:8). And what did Jesus do? He never ate anything unclean and never broke a single commandment set forth by God in the Old Testament. Are we not to be like Jesus? If he had, he would have been sinning and would have been unacceptable as a sacrifice for our sins. Sounds like you're making this up or just regurgitating what you've been taught, perhaps colored by a very anti-Semitic church history. Search it out for yourself!! "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." ( 2 Timothy 2:15).
This vision had nothing to do with meat. It had to do with people. God doesn’t go back from His word or else He won’t be God. Read Acts 10:28 that’s what this is about, how we look at others. God doesn’t and is no respecter of person.
GOD’S WORD SAYS THAT IN THE MOUTH OF 2 OR 3 WITNESSES EVERY WORD WILL BE ESTABLISHED. SO IN LIGHT OF THAT I WILL SHARE A FEW TRUTHS ON GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION. IN ACTS 2:38 SEE THE ANSWER HE GAVE WHEN ASKED ‘’MEN AND BRETHERN WHAT SHALL WE DO?’’ PETER ANSWERED IN VERSE 38...REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, AND YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. WE FIND THAT THIS IS WITNESSED IN ACTS 10:34-48. AND ALSO IN ACTS 19 :1-7. MAY GOD OPEN EVERY EYE AND HEART TO THIS TRUTH. YOU WILL NOT FIND ONE WITNES TO BAPTISM USING THE WORDS FATHER, SON OR HOLY GHOST, BECAUSE FATHER IS NOT A NAME, SON IS NOT A NAME AND HOLY GHOST IS NOT A NAME,JESUS IS HIS NAME...
I READ ACT 1O MANY TIME AND EACH TIME I LEARN SOME THING NEW I LOVE THIS CHAPTER. I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE MISS UNDERSTOOD WHEN IT CAME DOWN TO THE FOOD PART. WAS HE TALK ABOUT ANIMALS ARE MAN
When Almighty GOD calls a person to preach the word we must leave everything behind. we must go and do it. He will send others with whom you will work with. We must not doubt because GOD will send us to do his will and he is with us. He will give us strength through his Holy Spirit.
The scripture was not saying for us to now eat unclean food and was not referring to that either. The vision Peter had was that Cornelius was consider a Gentile and unclean according to the Jews, but the Lord was teaching Peter not to call any man common or unclean. Read verse 28 again and you will see it was Man that was unclean and not unclean food. Would you eat cat, mice, dog, horse, which are all unclean animals?
How comforting to know that Jesus is more powerful than the Devil who unfortunately can cause us pain. Thankfully Jesus is forgiving and everything we need to know about.
I believe that God is showing us that eternal life is for ALL and not the Jews only and that what he has made is clean and undefiled. Also that we should all obey his commands at all times.
I think the point is being missed here. The glory of this chapter is the fact this is where the Gentiles (everyone not a Jew) received the baptism of the Holy Ghost ( Acts 2:1-4). So, how did they know that the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Gentiles? Notice verse 46 "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God."
There was physical evidence that the Spirit of the Almight God had baptized the house of Cornelius! But don't forget that the Holy Ghost is just one part... the following verses tells us the rest... "Then answered Peter,47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." According to Acts 2:38.
The Law of Moses is crystal clear concerning clean and unclean animals, and edible things. Now, did Jesus come to fulfill or to destroy the Law and The prophets? Maybe Moses, Isaiah and Jesus are stupid ignorants, and Peter, Paul & the whole gang of perverse greedy idiots are clever mind expanders? What would you choose for today's dinner, mice pie or maybe grilled toads? Even the worst heathens are having better sense for edible things...
What is the confusion here? fellow Christians let us not go into unnecessary argument over this. Is wood not derive from a tree? if the cross unto which Our Savior was hanged was an ion, the writers of the Holy Bible would have stated it. don't forget that Christ crucifixion on the cross or tree is the perfection of what God the creator did with the Isrealise in the wilderness when He was leading them and they disobey. God courses a poisonous snake or deadly killer disease to befall them and they started to die. but for the sake of His love, ask Moses to lift up the staff which is made out of wood or tree or cross whatever; and that anyone who will look up to the staff or the cross shall be heal. likewise is our Lord Jesus Christ been lifted up onto the cross ,wood or tree whatever you call it that howsoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
I just noticed these comments from nearly a year ago, but feel led to add some.
God's Word is perfect. But, it takes it being translated into the 'perfect' language of a particular language in order for the translation to be 'perfect.' And the King James Version is perfect English. They did not talk backwards, we do, in a way.
While, the Holy Bible mentions the word 'tree' in Acts, which the cross of Christ was, there are many other scriptures withing the contents of the written Word of God; the Holy Bible, that clarify the fact that a piece of wood was attached across it, making that 'tree,' therefore, 'a cross.'
The importance of God's Word mentioning 'the cross' was 'a tree,' is that it serves to confirm what 'the cross' was made from. It also relates to the Lord saying, in the Old Testament, that 'cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree.'
Galatians 3: 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Regardless of that being said, ALL of mankind was already UNDER a CURSE, due to sin, which was why we needed a Saviour to die for our sins. But, Jesus, by 'hanging on a tree,' made it VIVIDLY CLEAR that, while the body in which He had come was flesh, like mankind's, He INSIDE that body was NO mere man, but was the Word, the POWER, and RIGHTEOUSNESS, of God, Who was to, by His Spirit, utterly CONSUME; BURN UP, all the sins that were laid upon Him; ALL our sins, and ALL the sins of everyone of mankind who ever was, and ever would be born into the world.
So, while in this passaage of God's Word, it mentions 'a tree,' saying:
Acts 10:39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on A TREE:,
there are plenty of other scriptures in the same Holy Bible that clarifies that a piece of wood was attached across it (purposed to nail his hands to it,) in that it is referred to clearly as a 'CROSS.'
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of THE CROSS.
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of HIS CROSS, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Ephesians 2:14 For HE is OUR PEACE, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of THE CROSS is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the POWER of God.
The CROSS of Jesus Christ is the POWER of God to us which are saved, because HE that suffered, and died, for us on it is the POWER of God:
1 Corinthians 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, CHRIST the POWER of God, and the wisdom of God.
Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in THE CROSS of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was IN Christ, reconciling the world unto HIMSELF, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The differences between Bible translations are obvious between different languages. I read a Ukrainian Bible and compare it with English version it is somewhat different. I know for sure that God's word is true though no matter if it is said a cross or a tree.
What really motivated my question was the day I attended a combined english-spanish mass and found that the spanish bible explicitely uses the word cross wheras the english bible used the word tree. Upon checking I found that the french bible also uses the word cross. All of the responses recived really make sense, but I still wonder at the apparent discrepancy between the english and spanish mass.
The question that pops up in my head is what would God say about me? Like he said to Cornilius ... Your alms are brought up in memorial. Would God give me that kind of quality, or is it something like, ungreateful and other qualities which are brought before God.
Well from the way I understand things the word "tree" means the cross was made from would. Back then they reused crosses over and over so they were dirty and covered with blood and flesh from previous victims. They would force people to carry the portion that represented "T" or a better way to explain this would be that part where there arms and hands would go. The other portion that goes north and south was connected later either while they were lying down or by roman soldiers using their spears to hoist up the crucified person. But Jesus was forced to carry an entire cross which was made from a tree.
Hi Cliff, people were crucified on trees back then. They didn't have modern power saws like we have today, so they tied or nailed their hands to a piece of wood (a scraggly, crooked branch of some kind), then nailed that to the tree. That created the cross (the wood's horizontal piece against the tree's vertical trunk). Everything we see in pictures, movies, or even the finely sawed crosses in or outside some church buildings are not historically accurate or Biblically accurate.
I am troubled by the words of Peter stating that Jesus was killed by hanging from a tree. Please help me reconcile those words with the earlier scripture writings of Jesus dying on the cross.
