This is the reason why they were rebaptized in Acts 19. Look at ch 18 vs 24 Apollos was preaching in Ephesus knowing ONLY the baptism of John see vs 25. Then Aquila and Pricilla expained that Christ had came and died for our sins in vs 26. Then vs 27 he is preaching grace through faith. Now in ch 19 Paul came to Ephesus and they havent heard of the Holy Ghost there. They were not saved!!!! Read Romans 8 vs 9 and in verse 2 they had not even heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. They were not saved!!! Jesus gave the command to the disciples on how to baptize in Matt 28 19 and the Holy Ghost is mentioned there. So Paul baptizes them correctly in vs 4. Now Acts is a transitional book and Doctrine wasn 't straight until the N.T. was written that 's why you have the sign gifts for the Jews who require a sign see 1 Cor 1 22 and they were to confirm the word see Mark 16 20 see confirming the word with SIGNS following. We don 't need signs today, we have Gods word.

Hello Bro. Cliff You are absolutely correct. The other significant point is that these men were rebaptized the correct way in the name of the Lord Jesus. They were not baptized with the preacher calling Father, Son, and Holy Ghost over them. They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. This is the proper baptism.
acts 19 vs2 here the bible make us to understand that as a child of GOD, our heavenly lanquage is speaking in tongues and is our spiritual lanquage to overcome the davil becos is the only language the davil dont understand

One of the most significant points in these passages of scriptures is the rebaptism of the 12 men who Paul encountered. The baptism is so significant to the salvation process that these men were rebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. They were baptized and them received the Gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence in speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave them utterance. Now this does not mean that you cannot get the Holy Ghost before the baptism, this just confirms that the correct baptism is essential for salvation.
The message in Acts 19 is huge, and its defining power critical to our understanding of salvation, even to this day. In Acts 2 38, Peter clearly defines God 's plan for salvation, including receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. The New Testament clearly documents conversions being accomplished based on those same Acts 2 ideals belief, repentance, baptism, and receipt of the Holy Spirit. Acts 19 makes it clear that IT DOES MATTER how salvation is approached accomplished. It is as important to us today as it was to those Christian disciples in Ephesus, and as it was to Apollos in Acts 18. Jesus was baptized, He commands us to baptize, a Spirit filled Peter includes this in the plan of salvation, conversions in the New Testament document it, and Acts 18 19 further define the intent of baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ as being one of salvation 's essential ingredients. Belief in our Lord and repentance of our sins, coupled with an objective study of God 's Word will naturally lead to baptism for the remission of sins and receipt of the Holy Spirit. As seekers of the Truth, we need to read the whole Bible.
Even though the Ephesus converts and others in the book of Acts received the Holy Spirit after water baptism, some converts in the book of Acts received the Holy Spirit before water baptism. However, I don 't believe that this was proof that they were saved. Let 's use the apostle Paul 's conversion as an example. Acts 9 17 18 proclaims that Paul received the Holy Spirit, and then was baptized. But notice in Paul 's testimony in Acts 22 that Paul 's sins were NOT remitted until after water baptism in the name of Jesus. Acts 22 16 And now why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Paul repented, received the Holy Spirit and had his sins remitted when baptized in the name of Jesus, just like Acts 2 38. Some converts in the book of Acts receive the Holy Spirit before water baptism, and some after, as it still is today. This saving gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that was first delivered to the saints is still the saving gospel today. Whether Jew or Gentile, it is the same gospel for everybody.
The Bible says the gospel is to go to the Jew FIRST Rom. 1 16 , so they are the FIRST to receive the gospel in the book of Acts chapter 2 , but they are not the last to receive it. Acts doesn 't end with chapter 2, so we should be cautious of anyone who develops their doctrine in Acts 2 while practically ignoring the next 26 chapters! If God didn 't stop in Acts 2, then why does anyone else? Could it be that the later chapters in Acts contain information which the cultists want hidden from us? Could it be that there are other scriptures in Acts which do not agree with the wording of Acts 2 38? Could it be that Peter himself, the one preaching in Acts 2 38, says something different when speaking to individual Gentiles like you and me? One only has to read Acts chapter 10 to get the answer. Peter is preaching again in Acts 10, except only to individual Gentiles, and something very interesting occurs. In Acts 2 38, the Holy Ghost was promised to be given to the converts AFTER they were baptized, yet in Acts 10 44 the Holy Ghost falls upon the Gentiles BEFORE they are baptized! Now, Paul tells us in Romans 8 9, " . . .if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. " Having God 's Spirit is synonymous with belonging to God or being saved John 3 6 8 , so the Gentiles in Acts 10 were saved BEFORE they were baptized in water. Why don 't the Acts 2 38 cultists ever point this out? Answer It destroys their perverted doctrine that water baptism is essential for salvation.
The beginning of chapter 19 1 7 shows the way of salvation. Simply put it was believe repent baptism in the name of Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit speaking in other tongues as the spirit gives the utterance. This is the same message that Peter preached in Acts 2 38. Notice that the Ephesus disciples received the Holy Spirit after water baptism. If baptism was only an outward expression of an inward change showing what 's already happened on the inside a person would never receive the Holy Spirit after water baptism, but always before. Belief did not save the Epesians, for if it did, they would have already been saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. If one automatically receives the Holy Spirit upon believism, which is commonly taught, than there would be no need to even ask the question "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? " No, it wasn 't until after water baptism that they received the Holy Spirit. These Ephesian disciples were saved by the death, burial and ressurection of Jesus Christ. Death repentance, Burial baptism ressurection receiving the Holy Spirit. The same saving faith of the Samariatans in Acts 8, Gentiles in Acts 10. Paul in Acts 9 also read Acts 22 Jews in Acts 2.
I think this verse shows that these people really wanted to repent, and that they didnt care how much money they threw away, they just wanted to be with the LORD
Acts 19 reflect the power of God through all who will believe and live according to the word and doctrine of Christ. It is not wise nor safe to try and imitate the power of God.
Please give one Scripture reference where Peter and the apostles were baptized in Jesus name. You can be the best Christian by doing what Jesus says in Matthew 28 verse 19. There are several different ways people were baptized in the book of Acts which is a transitional book by the way. We are Gentiles and Paul the apostle to the Gentiles see Romans 11 verse 13, says you are saved by GRACE THROUGH FAITH. It 's not of yourselves and an example would be water baptism. Please trust Christ alone for salvation. Baptism comes after being saved.
Acts 19 5 states that believers must get baptized in the name of Jesus. Paul did in Acts 8 19 22 16. He got baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Peter and the apostles of course baptized in Jesus name. Are you going to be a new testament Christian or a disciple of some church. God or baal. Who do you serve?
This gift is just as strong today as it was then. When you receive the HOLY Ghost it is same gift today as all those thousands years ago. I have Holy Ghost praise JESUS he said his words and teachings are Forever
Earlier this evening I did a Bible study with two Christian men One of the questions I asked was about baptism I was baptized young 12 and did not understand the significance of it They told me to read this chapter These Ephesian Christians believed but had only been baptized with the old baptism of John They had not yet received the holy Spirit but after they were baptized in Christ they received the holy Spirit They were saved
NKJ Version Acts 19:16-I believe it was much worst then that, you might say it was a G version on what really happened; more like Genesis 6. The evil spirit leap on them and overpowered them, they were raped. That is why they were naked.
On one hand, burning the books were a proof of real repentance;on the other hand, counting the 'PRICE' is uncalled for, as it relate to counting the cost before following the Savior.
The Holy Ghost is a Free Gift to the beleiver. It only comes after Salvation. Some have received almost immediately after being saved. Its a gift and is not possible to receive before Salvation. The evidence of receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost is evident by the speaking in tongues.
@Jean;The power of The Lord was strong upon Paul it permeated his clothing to te extent that if a person that believed touched him or if he touched a hankerchief or piece of clothing, the sprit of the Lord would remainon that garment and would heal the sick or persuade people to believe in and accept Christ.
All of Asia heard the Gospel of Grace in the span of 2 years. This was done by one man ...We are more than one and we have received the same power and authority of the Holy Spirit so we have no excuse when it comes to preaching this word to our communities. Yes We can!!!
Look at this poem that we all sing in our local churches. Read your bible pray everyday...pray every day.. Pray every day, read your bible pray every day if you want to grow...if you want to grow. If you want to grow, read your bible pray every day if you want to grow. Another side of it says; close your bible sleep every day, if you want to die. If you want to die, close your bible sleep everyday if you want to die. The word of God is our lives, just as we need food to grow and live physically, so we need the word of God to grow and live spiritually. Think about what happens anytime you stay 24 hours without eating, your body starts losing control. The same thing is applicable to your spirit, 24 hours without feeding from the word weakens our spirit. Therefore, for us to grow, dominate and prevail, the word of God is recommended.
We are God's spoken word and that is why anytime we do away with the word of God, God is far from us and afflictions come. Psalms 119:67 sys, but when we return to the word we are made alright. Psalms107:17-20.
The name of the father & of the Son & the Holy spirit is lord jesus christ. Let us change the baptism to the original christian famular not the titles. God does not change, he is the same today, yesterday & forever
So the question might be asked, who's baptisim are u baptized unto? Or r u baptized in fat/son/hghost? Anyone feeling like they need to be rebaptized in the Name of Jesus? for the what? the remission of sins.. not fine if u do,fine if u don't, not for the outward showing of an inward faith, it's for the remission of sins. Sounds like an imprtant truth to me. ru born of water and spirit jn3:3 3:5.
Reckoning the price of these books is a nonsense, it reveals sanctimonious attitude of ACTors. Imagine king Saul, after the task of destroying Amalek, reckoning prices of calves and other cursed goods. What would Samuel say to Saul in that case?
Paul is on a mission, and what a mission! He was full of the Spirit, raising the dead, casting out demons so that the Devil said,"Paul I know and Jesus I know bur who are you?" I not gonna mess with him at all! He has power and might to cast into Hell, supernatural power! Yikes,
I love this chapter, it's loud and clear to me, the eloquent man apollos in chapter 18 was fervent in the scriptures but not understanding the baptism in Jesus Name! but when Paul came to Ephesus he ask a question, Have you receive the Holy Ghost since you believed and they said we have not heard whether there be any Holy Ghost and he asked then what then were you baptized ?
they replied John's baptism and after hearing that the people were re-baptized in the name of Jesus!!!!!! Because it's the only saving name as in Acts 4:12 and Philippians 2:5-10 thank God for his word. God Bless!!
