When I read this psalm in the KJV and NKJV, Wycliffe's Bible and RV1885 versions. I can't help but to interpret it in a totally opposite way to all the classic commentaries and indeed the more modern translations and their commentators.

The key difference in my mind arises from use of the archaic versions' words "filled with contempt" as opposed to the more contemporary versions' "endured no end of contempt".

I understand this psalm (ie the KJV version) to be similar to Ps:51 a cry for mercy by a sinner.

In that, the psalmist feels conviction of their collective contemptuous attitude which is both like the contempt of those who live at ease (the rich?) and also the contempt that the proud have for others.

I looked at the Hebrew and it's frustratingly unclear because of the Yoda style grammar.

I think the use of the word "mercy" is also really shaping my opinion because words like "salvation", "deliverance", "rescue", "save", "protection", "justice", "defence" are most generally used when the Psalmist is feeling oppressed and is seeking relief. "Mercy" feels more in line with repentance or confession.

    Love to hear others' thoughts.

I pray to God for a miracle to cast out the evil energies and demons at our property, at our home and inside our bodies. Please God and heavenly army save us from this evil.

I pray that God can reverse all possession and remove all energetic cords and links they created inside our bodies.

I pray that God can heal us and heal this evil situation. Please God give us deliverance from this evil.

    Part 2.

Although I believers are considered righteous and blameless before God due to the imputation of Christ's righteousness to us, I also believe that part of sanctification is an ongoing working of the Holy Spirit to guide us, show us our sinful habits and doings, and lead us to confess and repent of these sins. To say that one cannot sin any longer as a believer is not borne out in actual human daily living. I believe that any Christian who believes that they no longer sin is denying reality. Consider the way Jesus framed the commandments of God in Matthew 5-7, taking them down to the heart level, not just the outward actions. His words show that our hearts bring sin forward . Even if we do not act on what the heart brings up, it is still sin to, say, lust in our hearts, or think angry thoughts about another person, or be jealous of another, envious, or covet in our hearts what others have. It is still sin for believers to gossip about others, deliver a sharp word to others, lie to or about, belittle, or be dismissive of another. It is still sin to not help someone whom we could help, forget to pray for someone we said we would pray for, be distracted when we worship, neglect to read the Scripture as we have told God we would do, etc.

The differences between a believer and an unbeliever are not that we no longer sin, but that a believer has the Holy spirit living in us to sanctify us, effect grace in us, and turn our hearts to God and His ways when we stray away from him, along with many other blessings we now have because of this indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Believers have been cleansed of their sins due to Jesus' sacrifice. We are given grace that empowers us to say no to sin and yes to what is right for us to do. Unbelievers lack this power nor the will to be obedient to God.

I hope this helps to clarify my viewpoint, Doug. Have a great day today. I am off to run errands.
  • GiGi again - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Good Morning Doug,

I think you completely misunderstood my post and my viewpoint. i am not living under the Law or the Old Covenant.

What I was saying about daily sin was of the manner as what Paul says to take every thought captive to the Word of God. So, for example, I heard a song in a store the other day while shopping. It was American Pie by don Maclean. It is a sacrilegious song misusing the names of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This song kept coming up in my mind because the tune is catchy. I had to go to the Lord and ask Him to take that song out of my mind each time. This just shows the sinful nature at work in me.

Or, for another example, if I am in the store and succumb to impulse buying, that is the sinful nature rising up in me again. It is unnecessary for me to buy things I do not need or perhaps will not even use. In such situations, the Holy Spirit makes me aware of these occasions of sin, and I repent and ask for forgiveness and help to resist such things in the future.

I think that every Christian sins daily in thought, word, deed, motivation, or in failing to do what God wants us to do in a situation. That is why John spoke about this in 1John 1, urging us to not think that we are without sin, but to confess our sins to God and be confident that He is faithful and just to cleans us from all unrighteousness.

I do believe that the only way we can stand righteous before God is by the imputation of the righteousness of Jesus Christ to us. I do believe that all of my sins are taken away by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. I do believe that His resurrection brings us new life and the hope of the resurrection of our bodies at His second coming.

Please, I ask that you address my viewpoint in replying to me, not evaluate my spiritual condition. I was addressing the doctrine of spiritual perfection as taught by John Wesley and many Pentacostal/holiness churches. I believe this doctrine to be in error.

    Henry:

Genesis 19:37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites until this day,

Genesis 19:38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-am-mi: the same is the father or the children of Ammon unto this day.

God uses men and women for his purpose and his pleasure.

God used Lot and his daughters to bring forth two nations.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God that worketh in you both to will and to do his good pleasure.

Romans 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another vessel to dishonour?

John 18:38 Pilate said unto him, What is truth?

Lot and his daughters died, probably not knowing, truth.

    God Bless you.

I had the most wonderful time this morning reading all comments and the explanations about this chapter after reading the entire Chapter 1. I thank God and praise The LORD for all of you. I seldom read something that really encourages me, specially when you are in bed sick and covered with boils. It is not like Job, but enough to pull you down. Despite that situation, I want you all to know, you all made me so comforted. I love to read from the saints comments all the time. I continue to pray for all of you and we continue to pray for Israel's safety and salvation. Agape.

    Hey Fabian,

First, I would like to say one truth that cannot be misinterpreted, or overlooked, after the flood all mankind are descendants of Adam and Eve. There was 1656 years from the creation of Adam to the flood and only 5 chapters of Genesis, a lot of things are not written. Tradition strongly holds Adam was the first man and says chapter 2 is a closer look of man in day six.

There are two Adams in scripture the first one was disobedient the last one was obedient, and the last Adam was manifested to undo the works of the devil. Was the first Adam part of this plan that Satan had no clue? Is that what the tradition overlooks? We see in 1 Corinthians 15:47 Adam was the first man, but it also says Jesus was the second man. Romans 5:14 the first Adam was a figure of the one to come.

Does scripture line up with the tradition of Adam and Eve being the male and female in day six without questions? The herbs and fruit trees in day 3 are seed yielding, they would reproduce themselves with no cultivation needed, all animals and man ate plants. In chapter 2 the plants were of the field they had to be cultivated, a garden has to be planted and tilled to grow.

In day 5 the fowls came out of the water. In chapter 2 there were fowls formed out of the ground and brought to Adam. Are they the same fowls? In day 6 the beast and cattle of the earth before man, in chapter 2 beast and cattle of the field after Adam. Are they the same? Look at the description of the words earth and field.

In day 6 man was told to be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and have dominion over every living thing upon the earth. Could Adam and Eve obey these commandments from inside the garden?

There is more I could say, the only thing that cannot be denied mankind are descendants of Adam and the last Adam Jesus is from the line of Adam through Seth.

What would it change if Adam was not the first human? Nothing. Do we strain at a gnat and swallow a camel?

    God bless,

    RLW

You shall see the pillar of fire , the same one that led the Hebrews out of captivity by night!

You shall see the cloud that gathered them and led them during the day!

    You are the chosen generation.

The one's, who the Shekinah shall live within, even as He lived in the tents ,the synagogues, the temples of old!

Only this time He will come, and those who have Him in them will be like Him. They will be the one's that will be taken into the shekinah of everlasting glory!

This one is the Savior of the world , the true shekinah!

He came for His own and His own received Him not! Even so, He bids all to come into the temple, the temple found in His Son!

    This the final shekinah sacrifice!

It Is for all, not just the Hebrews!

This they yet deny today! As you see the changes developing around you! Indeed our redemption draws nigh. His glory more prevalent with each passing day. You must be in the right place at the right time! If not you, will be left and die in your sin! These are His words of promise!

If He is not in you ,you shall be left and not taken into everlasting glory! Hebrew or not! This the Christ you deny!

You cannot take your money, your good works, you cannot take anything with you! Look up while your redemption draws nigh!

    Repent and be Baptized

Jesus always existed as he says before Abraham was i am...But he had to make his debut via a seed which was the living WORD that came out of his Father's mouth ...He was always the living word of God the FATHER. from the beginning .

.....Lkewise the H.G. EMANUEL Always existed but he will make his debut in humanity via the seed of Jesus his Father 's WORDS

.....Thus when the H.G, Emanuel Regenerates himself via his seed his words ( the Contents of the Book ) he will become as the stars of Heaven,...Thus an Israel of God....Its the H.G. that is God with us...Which is the Comforter an Israel of God...That Heavenly Jacob.....They don't call Jesus the bridegrorom for nothin....he is gonna impregnate this whole world with is precious seed which is the Father's will...The words of the book the new Covenant...It was the Father that wanted to be as the stars of heaven...As God sword by himself when he made that Promise of the multipliciation of Christ's seed....Which was a heavenly Promise....As we have borne the image of the earthly we must also bear the image of the heavenly...Which is that baptism of PROMISE...The baptism of the H.G....That New CREATURE is born in US via his seeds...WHEN THE BOOK is opened.

Dear GiGi, please read the reply I made to Giannis and ponder what I am saying. We will not reach "sinless perfection" by the methods of man. We have to be careful of people that say they can lead us to sinlessness and perfection by their methods. Even though the Bible don't address "sinless perfection" together it does address both. It seems a contradiction to me your quote the longer and deeper we follow our Saviour, Jesus Christ, the more acute is our awareness of our own sinfulness and the many ways we sin each day. We should belief the goal of the Bible and Jesus is to take away sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness and be like him. Eph. 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: I believe this righteousness is imputed not imaginary. 1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin." Your statement and belief seems to me like one is living under the old law and maybe even worse. They had a remembrance of sins yearly and you have a remembrance of sins daily. Hebrews 10: 1-4 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. My encouragement is to read carefully, examine your motives and ask yourself if your truly desire to leave the things you feel guilty about each day. Read the context of Jesus parable about the unjust judge and widow. He poses the question if he will find faith when he returns. Lets believe his word.
  • Doug - In Reply - 2 years ago
Dear Giannis I am not going to address all your thoughts on this topic. The first one we can agree on is that we all say the scripture is true. We think we are differing in interpretation. The interpretation you are struggling with is the interpretation of people's lives. Why is man (that is supposedly sinning every day) capable of determining who is sinless and who is perfect). If you were living with Jesus would you have said he was sinless and perfect. Matthew 21:12 "And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves," Would you have said He was "pissed off" , angry, lack of restraint, not patient or intolerant? I haven't see that many people that angry. Could you have rightly interpreted his actions to say he was sinless and perfect? He told his disciples "how is it that ye have No faith" and "how long shall I suffer you" (put up with you). If you were there or you here a person today say something like it. How do you measure that person. Steffen told the leaders (which we are to obey) "You do always resist the Holy Ghost". That sounds very proud and judgmental against authority. I wonder how many of us living today would have followed Jesus and if we saw him would we say he was a "perfect, sinless man". The only reason we do is because the Bible says he was. I differ from your view point about capability. Some scriptures Eph. 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: John 1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 2 Cor. 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

I was just thinking about the Spritual Realm, When Jesus said that which is born of the spirit tis spirit...Thats the H.G. that can be born in us via his seed his words etc..Which is our new heart and new spirit...Which is our new innerman...An Israel of God...Thats y he has to know us thats when his good seed is gona be sown in our hearts..Initiating a birth of Christ in us the hope of GLORY.

....Jesus can be Multiplied, Regenerated in humanity and the Child is the H.G the Granson thus an Israel of God...The very fact that we have a Father and a Son begs the question of a Granson and equally important an ISRAEL OF GOD...Even in the natural without this Abraham Issac and Jacob family Israel cd not have been muliplied as the sands of the seas...But now that Christ has died there is a greater Promise for humanity which is the multiplication of Christ in humanity via the seed of the sower the words of God..The New Covenant.

....Thats y Isaiah refers to Jesus as everlasting Father simply b/c Jesus is the FATHER of the H.G..As the H.G. cannot be born in us without the seed of JESUS....When he breath on them he was propagating very God as his breath was his word and his words are his seeds...Yes Jesus has a seed its his word,...Thats y he is saying whosoever receives one such Child in MY NAME RECEIVES ME...As Jesus said that the FATHER wd send the H.G. in MY NAME...simply b/c its Christ seed...Thus you can plainly see that the Godhead is Father Son and Granson that is gona be multiplied as the stars of heaven...Which is the Israel of God.

....Abraham Isaac and Jacob were Father Son and GRANSON that was multiplied as the sands of the seas..Gods chosen ppl

Jesse David and Solomon were Father Son and GRANSON and God wd only let Solomon the Granson build that great Temple

Thats y God told Moses his name was Abraham Issac and Jacob..Simply b/c the GODHEAD is father son and Granson...And its the H.G. the Granson..That heavenly Jacob that is gonna be multiplied as th stars.

So there's this movie (1 hour); covers from Genesis to when Satan is thrown into the lake of fire.

Youtube search for: BLESSON TRIBULATION MOVIE

This pastor is preaching on the Rapture, saying how any second Jesus could call us UP IN THE CLOUDS.

He's saying a sound like lightning from the east to west-

Right then it happens in church services. It's so fast it feels "like the blink of an eye", truly. Pastors Bible falls to the floor, he's gone in that blink.

Like 80% of all the people are GONE. The other 25% are screaming and crying; kneeling.

    Later,

Trumpets,Seals,Bowls, all kinds of judgments going on. But the last 3 minutes, show what the writer thinks heaven will be like.

In another YouTube movie REVELATION STATION MOVIE, that is chopped up now, it's real long. The segment named MILLENNIUM, also shows the wreckage of earth a few seconds. Then it shows heaven too. It shows humanity building and filling the earth with people. The 1000 years fly by. Then Satan is released to tempt the believers. Jesus fights their army, as in scripture. Satan is thrown in the lake of fire. Satan is very ugly.

The earth is restored and time flys forward.

Viewing it stirs up the gift that is in us: to evangelize the lost. Lost people will be punished, marked by the Beast, no water, no food, no hope. The pain is terrible to watch.

The stars in the heavenlies fall; asteroids fall. An asteroid named Wormwood hits the ocean and everything in the ocean dies. People too. You can actually Google wormwood and NASA has photos of it online.

Why can't we do like I did in the 80's? I had Saturday nights with snacks and the old Rapture Movies. People got saved; we baptized them in the Jacuzzi.

A lost friend of mine says," WHY DOESNT GOD WRITE HIS NAME IN THE SKY SO WE CAN BELIEVE? I say, you live on the Madrid fault. Last big eruption the water flowed south to north, to Canada! Don't give up.

If u don't like the movies, I like fresh tomatoes :D

Good day, Amos 5:26 identifies the use of a star with a tabernacle. (not accusing, only identifying what is in the Word) It is most peculiar that the star would have 6 points, 6 sides, and 6 triangles. Most peculiar indeed. When you read of the tribes of Israel in Genesis, did you catch what changed in the book of revelation concerning them? Something is different here and it has to do with a serpent. This may seem brash and way off base but consider this:

America loves tradition and a symbol of our strength and a representation of America is the statue of liberty and the Washington monument. Did you know the Washington monument is 55.5 feet wide and 555 feet tall? This is 666 inches wide and 6660 inches tall and also is the same proportionally to the golden statue of Nebuchadnezzar from the book of Daniel? Hidden right in front of us, the devil's vessels are very skilled at deception and causing others to error.

Certainly not all Jewish peoples are of this sort, only a portion. Again this is laid out in Revelation, those who practice kabbalah are those who worship a snake in a tree. This is what Jesus spoke of replacing in John 3:14. The wicked shall do wickedly but the wise shall understand.

    Respectfully

The Book of Hosea will reveal Gods feelings about Israel's behavior.

The Commandments say, do not commit adultery.

    Exodus 20.

My advise. Don't live in rage. Separations are good.

But if you don't want to work through the problems: someone is going to have to move.

It would be great if he'd see a Pastor, or a family counselor? Does he believe in God or Jesus?

The Book of Hosea is about how God feels about cheating Israel. Come back here so we can help pray with you.

It's hard to sort things out when there's a high level of emotions. I haven't read Hosea in a while, but it might help you. Read Matthew 5:26-37, 44

A lot of people in here care about you. I've been through it. I know it hurts bad. I didn't have the Lord to help me.

If you attend church, make an appointment to speak to the Pastor or his wife. You are loved.

I don't believe it's an oversight that God did not tell us the names of Lot's two daughters. Their story is inextricably linked to their father's actions and has implications not only for young people who find themselves in difficult situations, but a warning to every parent. It's a sad story in many ways, but also reveals God's merciful and redemptive character. We don't know their names because they could be any of us, were we to find ourselves in the similar circumstances.

[Don't Underestimate the Power of a Sinful Environment to Sear the Conscience]

In our modern culture, we are quick to judge these two young women and assure ourselves we would never resort to such desperate actions. We would be wise to learn from their experience.

Lot's daughters had grown up in a city where sexual immorality was commonly accepted. They were engaged to young men who scoffed at God's warning. God told Abraham, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave" ( Genesis 18:20). Apparently, there were not even ten righteous people in the city.

Being surrounded by such influences had obviously seared the consciences of these two women; their idea to have sexual relations with their father seemed a logical and acceptable solution.

Left to ourselves, the human heart is deceitful and desperately wicked ( Jeremiah 17:9) Without the restraining and redeeming influence of God's Word and His Holy Spirit, we can't imagine the depths of sin to which we might go. Lot had failed to teach his daughters the truth about who God was; they were simply acting in accordance with the lifestyle and knowledge they had been given.

Titus 1:14 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

    Deuteronomy 28

It is the fathers solemn responsibility to teach Gods Word to the children. All ages. The Bible is wisdom from above. Read it.
