    Jesse,

Again, I really appreciate your response, and I am actually hoping you could offer further insight into Col. 1:23. As I re-read this passage in scripture I notice that there does appear to be a condition to our salvation that does hinge on our continued faith in Christ. I do understand what you mean by salvation being a promise, but, even promises do often have conditions. I hear that a lot from my brothers and sisters in Christ who believe in Eternal Security, but, just don't see how unconditional security lines up with scripture. Let's look at Col. 1:23 "If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel". We see 2 things going on here that make this conditional. 1st, we see that we must "continue" in the faith. 2nd, we must not be "moved away". It is only when those 2 conditions are met that Christ will present us as holy and un-blamable.

If I may ask, when the writers of the KJV of the Bible were translating Col. 1: 23 why did they not just say "those who are filled with the Holy Spirit will endure to the end"? It just seems to confuse the reader to translate this as a conditional statement, but, not have any conditions to it. God is not the author of confusion, and I believe the writers of the KJV were inspired by the Holy Spirit, so why would Col. 1:23 be worded this way?

I value your insight and follow up, as I love friendly dialogue. thanks!

Dear GiGi, God oftens uses people to do a work for Him. In the OT God spread Israel away from their land using Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. Please read the last chapter of Cronicles

17 - Therefore he (God) brought upon them the king of the Chaldees (Nebuchadnezzar), who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.

20 - And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:

21 - To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

After 70 years God gathered them back using Cyrus king of Persia. Ezra 1:1-4

1 - Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, 2 - Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. 3 - Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem. 4 - And whosoever remaineth in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, beside the freewill offering for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.

The same happened later on when God used the Romans to spread Israel around the world, and then in 1949 God He used the British to gather Israel back in their land.

Dear GiGi that happened in 1949. Jews were exiled from their own country since Romans destroyed Jerusalem (Jews revolted twice against the Roman rule). Solomon's Temple was destroyed too. The city was rebuilt but Jews were prohibited to enter the city untill the 7th centuary AD. In 1949 after WW2, that land was given by the British to Jews to re-enhabit it and the new country of Israel was formed and Jews from all over the world started to gather in their ancient land. At that time God's promise that He will gather them to their land was fulfiled.

Is there any other promise left for them to be fulfilled ?

In the NT Paul talks about his nation, what is going to happen in the last days. He doesn't say that a new country will be formed with Christ as their leader that will rule on the whole earth. But he says that all Israel will believe in Christ " after the fulness of gentiles be come in", Romans 11:25-27. After 'the fulness of gentiles be come in' means that no other gentile is left to be saved. When is that going to happen?

    Lets go to Revelation

The 144000 saved at that time are the first Jews to be saved, Revelation 7:4-8. Then the rest of these people will be saved. Question. If salvation for Israel starts during antichrist's time, during the great tribulation (Its obvious that these things happen during tribulation because in the next verses 9-17 we read about the ones in Heaven that were slaughterd by antichrist) when is that time that Jesus with Israel rules on earth? Doesn't make sense, does it? In Revelation 12:1-6 we read about that woman that was sent by God to the dessert. Who is that? It is obvious it is Israel, see verse 1. Antichrist will go after Israel and God will protect them. There is nothing else left for Israel untill the fight of Armagedon. Is it that Jesus will rule on earth with Israel during the next 1000 years? No, Revelation 20:4-6 talks about those that didn't receive the mark and were slaughtered. End of time, nothing else left.

Genesis 25-27: Tells the story of Esau and Jacob. Jacob and Rebekah worked together to cheat Esau out of his birthright as elder son. Esau made it easy because he'd rather have a bowl of stew than his birthright. He only fought for it when he saw it given to Jacob.

It seems wrong but Esau had no regard for those things until he realized what He had done. It says God HATED Esau for the treachery. This doesn't sanction cheating and treachery. It teaches that when God gives you a blessing, don't throw it away on something temporal.

Esau left Jewish culture and married into other culture an religion. However, to this very day, Esau is still trying to get his blessing away from Jacob. (God changed Jacobs name to Israel.

The wars in the Mid-East today, are still about the Covenants God made with Abraham and descendant of Abraham's wife SARAH.

I followed Esaus descendants to the eastern lands of Israel: a very difficult study. Google Esau's Geneology.

Study it we should. The last wars will still be brother against brother.

  • Mishael - In Reply - 3 years ago
Be a member of a Church who will keep your name lifted up, in prayer. Ask for what you need. Prepare for the tasks.

    A prayer:

    Father God,

We pray over domestic missionaries sharing the hope and love of Christ on our very own soil. So many in our country have been shown a false view of what it means to follow Christ, but we pray through Your Holy Spirit missionaries would be given the words, guidance, and access to share Your true heart and love with those they come into contact with. May those they meet come with their honest and vulnerable hurt, experience, and perspective and be open to coming into personally knowing You, Lord God. Help missionaries to be tender to Your Spirit, knowing when to speak and when to listen. Help them to walk in boldness rooted in You, standing boldly and without fear, for they are sent from You. Just as Moses stood before Pharaoh boldly proclaiming Your assignment to him, our missionaries (those who GO YE, stand before others. Help them not to fear the wrath or harshness of men, but to know what matters is Your opinion in the end. Father, help Your children as they proclaim Your Name in this land.

    In Jesus' name, amen.

I'm waiting on three surgeries. I'm not being given any pain medication. All I have is much prayer and spiritual warfare. God in His Mercy cares what we go through.

There's too much scripture on it.

Include the Lord in your daily routine. Pray. Stand fast in Ephesians 6. Our enemies are invisible. Bind them and their assault on you. Release the Love snd Strength of God to be your comfort and shield.

His Grace is Sufficient, 2 Corinthians 12:9. Read chapters 10-12 often. Paul followed Jesus, after a career of violence. He was beat on a lot for turning to Jesus.

We can get through this. Encourage yourself.

Ok, So the point here is that, there could have been people who were planning or trying to Kill the twelve (12) disciples of Jesus in the four Bible gospels, but we do not have any evidence documented in MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE and JOHN to prove the conspiracy, am i correct ?

Since I ran out of space I thought I'd add one more comment.

The #1 criticism often received is someone claims I don't believe in grace or that I believe we're saved by effort. That is a strawman argument and is untrue. The Bible says Christ followers will be saved by grace, not by works. That is not what is being contested.

Just because we will be saved by grace doesn't mean we should stop obeying Christ! It doesn't mean we should stop following Christ! The fruit of faith is works. A Christian is a Christ follower and if someone doesn't follow Christ they by definition are not even a Christian. And if not a Christian, that person should not expect the benefits of salvation. Matthew 7:21. Many will feel very entitled but will be shocked they aren't welcomed. This is the wake up call many need right now. Get right with the Lord today before its too late!

A Christ follower is action. Those who aren't actively following Christ are may not be Christ followers. And just because we're imperfect and fall down from time to time doesn't mean we're not Christians. This is very different from someone turning their backs on Jesus and following the pleasures of the world (satan). But Jesus said He would go after the lost sheep, not lost wolves! Many people assume they're followers because a pastor told them so, but are instead lost wolves expecting all the benefits of salvation for doing nothing. God bless.

    People have freewill:

    Psalms 25:12

Joshua 24:15 "choose you this day whom ye will serve"

    Psalm 119:30

    Luke 16:13

    Proverbs 3:31

    Fear God:

    Joshua 24:14

    Psalms 25:12

    Proverbs 1:29

    Seek God:

    Psalms 63:1

    All will be judged:

    2 Corinthians 5:10

    Romans 2:16

    John 12:48

    Hebrews 9:27

Hello Okou, as you will likely get different answers on this subject, I will share my interpretation of the Bible.

Despite what others say, I don't believe anyone gets "saved" while on earth. I don't see that anywhere in the Bible and it seems to be a man-constructed belief. What I see in the Bible is that because of Jesus's sacrifice we have hope of salvation. What I see in the Bible is that our judgment is what will determine our salvation and not everyone will receive salvation. The Bible says we will all be judged on the same day. It says many will go to hell, and few to heaven. What I see in the Bible is that the outcome is contingent upon our choices and behavior. This reality should be absolutely terrifying to some people. Maybe that's what it will take for some people to start taking God seriously and start obeying and fearing Him. Matthew 10:28. Others who are being running the race and fighting the fight can take comfort and have assurance of future salvation. Currently, we have a lot of self-proclaimed Christians goofing off and enjoying having their cake and eating it too, by unconsciously following the world's values, not God, despite Romans 12:2. Matthew 7:21-23 already predicted how this will turn our for them.

1 Peter 1:5 - "...salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." Notice it doesn't say 'now' or while on 'earth'. It says salvation will be revealed in the last time. I interpret this as the end of time, at judgment day.

1 Cor 9:24-27 "run the race", not the 'race was already won.'

Lots of conditional statements throughout the Bible, depending on our behavior and choices. Notice the word "If" a lot...

John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"

James 2:14-26 "...faith, if it hath not works, is dead..."

Joshua 24:15 "choose you this day whom ye will serve". Notice this is a daily choice.

Asenath was a high-born, aristocratic Egyptian woman. She was the wife of Joseph and the mother of his sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. There are two Rabbinic approaches to Asenath: One holds that she was an ethnic Egyptian woman that converted to marry Joseph.

There was no mention of her being black. You can read more on Google.

    Erich,

Very well said, Amen! That was the teaching in the early church. A person had to be born of God's Spirit in order to claim Christ as their Lord and savior. Romans 8:9 tells us that if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.

If I might add, salvation is not conditional based on what we do, but on what Jesus Christ has done for us. Colossians 1:23 says, "If ye continue in the faith," so it sounds conditional. But the literal translation from the Greek is, but the one who (has endured), not the one who will, but the one who has endured unto the end, this one will be saved.

Because it is an Aorist Participle in the Greek, it shows the proof of those who are saved, and it matches the rest of the teachings in the New Testament. The person who is saved WILL endure to the end, guaranteed! So we have the proof, and secondly, the promise of salvation. That is a promise!

I heard someone once say that the bible uses a lot of future tenses to show that salvation isn't here, it is later. No! That is a promise. A person is saved now. And when all this is over, the ones who will be saved are the ones who have endured unto the end.

So, I agree that only those who endure to the end in faith will reap eternal life, but I would also say that the person who is saved (Born of God's Spirit), that person will endure to the end. Why? Because God's Spirit in them will cause them to endure to the end. Like you say, we are the ones being kept by the power of God through faith. He keeps us saved, all the way to the end.

Again, very well said, and thank you for sharing this!!!

I believe that if a person reads any portion of the Bible with a pre-conceived idea ( such as a pre-tribulation rapture) that person cannot rightly understand how the prophesies of the Bible work together. .

The elect are the children of Abraham through Isaac AND the Gentiles who have been saved by grace.

We, as saved Gentiles, have been grafted into the root which is of the seed of Abraham in the place of the branches that were cut off.

Romans 11:17-24 says for itself ( with no outside private interpretation) that though the first fruit be broken off they can be grafted back into the tree from whence that were cut. For if we as Christians can be grafted into the olive tree how much more can the original branches be grafted into that tree again.

Take heed to verse 25 lest you form your own interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20.

22 . And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

23 . Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,

24 . The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

25 . The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

26 . The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace

    Chris,

Thanks for adding that! Later after I posted the answer. I remembered I didn't include the amazing gift of Salvation, that we ourselves could not accomplish with out Christ JESUS!

    Okou Agnatius,

I answered the question as I would have, to someone who had already received the gift of Salvation through believing in Christ. Chris was right to add that! It does cover that issue some in: 1Peter 1, but in my spirit, I did feel afterward that I had not given you the best most complete answer & it bothered me as I was trying to rest.

    Please also see: John 3:15-16, Revelation 19:1, Acts 4:12, Romans 1:16, Romans 10:10, 1Thessalonians 5:8-24, Hebrews 2, Hebrews 5:9,

Looks like some thoughtful answers were shared.

I have noticed that "tithing" has been disproportionately applied under the direction of church pastors who are looking to grow their income. In some cases I see it crossing into manipulation, coercion, and even deceit. I've seen evidence of some pastors who acted justified that they were entitled to a larger salary, a larger building, a private airplane, more materialism to "further the kingdom." The same church might dismiss other old testament laws, but when it comes to this topic they have no problem quoting the old testament. Of course not everyone has abused this and most start off with honorable intentions, but it sure is a dangerous path for some to be on.

If giving is truly about the heart and not fulfilling a perceived obligation to an old law, then assigning a percentage to it seems to defeat the purpose. I also believe that someone's time, labor, and objects have value, not just cash.

  • Giannis - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 4 - 3 years ago
    Dear Larry

Addictions to sinful things are bad. Now for medicine I don't think there is anything to worry about as far as your spiritual life is concerned but medically you should be very careful not to get addicted . Now again if you can not withstand the pain and have to take medicine, then this is a something you should talk about with your doctor, it's not a matter of faith. But you can pray to God and ask him either to take the pain away or to help you not getting addicted to that medicine.

I would like others to comment on that as well.
