  • Chris - In Reply - 3 years ago
Hi Jacqueline. You write that you use a study Bible, in which case there would be some detailed information given in there about the Bible Book you're studying (its author, its times, purpose of writing, contents, etc.). And there are probably footnotes to some verses & other Scripture references in the margin that have connection elsewhere in the Bible. With those in mind, & under the Spirit's Guidance, read the chapter carefully, first understanding what information is being given in context with its times. Then find some spiritual Truth that the Spirit is conveying in the passage & to you. And then seek to make a current application to it, supporting with other Scriptures if possible.

That's just a brief outline, not knowing how deep you're wanting to get into the Word (i.e. is the study to be given to young people, adults, or those more mature in the Word?). If you have a particular Book, Chapter or Verses you're wanting to expand on, then if you share it here, thereby learning how someone else would look at it & share it for teaching or encouragement.

Hi Candido. No one can answer that with any certainty about the type of wood used for Roman crosses. The best guesses simply include the available trees in that area, & in a couple of cases of unearthing an old Roman cross, evidences of certain woods were found: namely, olive wood & acacia wood. However, pine, cedar, oak & dogwood have been given as other options. In any case, crosses certainly had to be strong, sturdy & with a long useful life as they were used multiple times in the execution of criminals, for even relatively minor infractions - the Romans were a particularly cruel regime.

The one example that springs to mind, Tray, is that of David's relationship & encounter with King Saul. To share a couple of references for you to consider: 1 Samuel chapter 24 & 1 Samuel chapter 26; you will need to read them through to fully appreciate the accounts.

In both instances, it was in David's power to take away Saul's life as Saul continually chased after David to kill him. Yet David wouldn't sin by taking the life of God's anointed. So here, we could sense both David's integrity & spirit of forgiveness against one who desired his life; he had both occasion & reason to destroy his enemy, but his sensitivity to the LORD Who sees all & judges the hearts of men, came to the fore. And of course, David often had to flee or remain estranged from the king, for the preservation of his own life & that of his men; so hopefully, one can get a glimpse of exercising wisdom by staying away from those who seek our hurt and yet having a spirit of sadness for their actions & forgiveness for their evil intent.

As well, as one studies the Gospels, it can be soon learned how Jesus continually forgave others, knowing full well what was in their hearts. Sometimes, He confronted them with Divine Truth - other times He departed from them knowing that His Hour hadn't arrived yet.

If a person is truly trusting the LORD JESUS CHRIST for his or her salvation, no they cannot go to hell. 1 John 5: 11-13; John10: 27-30; Acts 4: 10-12; Colossians 1:12, 13; Revelation 20:15; 21:27.

GOD bless all those who have trusted in the Name of the SAVIOR the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Correction: KJV says incorruption (incorrupted bodies) not imperishable.
  • Adam - In Reply - 3 years ago
    Hello ELB or GBU,

I'd like to comment on your comment:

"the grave awaits those that commit suicide, they will be brought back to their flesh at the second resurrection, judged, brought to truth, and given their place in the Kingdom of God."

The two assumptions I see in this sentence is that dead people (or cremated) will go back to the flesh, and second, that all people will go to the "Kingdom of God." I assume by that term you mean eternal life in heaven.

So, when I read 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 to me that says we will not go back into the same flesh as before, but one that is now "imperishable" as it says, and one that is a spiritual body.

As for assuming someone who commits suicide will go to heaven, I'm not sure if that's what you mean or not. If so, I'm not sure where that belief comes from because the Bible clearly says most people will go to hell, not to heaven. Matthew 7:13. Salvation is conditional upon people taking action to follow Jesus. The Bible says "if" many times like in Romans 10:9, 1 John 1:9, John 15:10, John 14:15. God bless.

In the case of Phillipians 4:4 the word translated alway is Greek 104 aei; ever, unceasingly.

Other verses that use this Greek word translated "alway" are:

    2 Cor 4:11

    2 Cor 6:10

    Col 4:6

    1 Thes 2:16

    2 Thes 2:13

    Tit 1:12

    Heb 3:10

This Greek word is translated "always" in these verses:

    Acts 7:51

    1 Pet 3:15

    2 Pet 1:12

    I hope this helps.
  • RichFairhurst - In Reply on Philippians 4 - 3 years ago
Always means at all times; ever; perpetually; throughout all time; continually when used as an adverb.

Alway is an archaic word that means all along; for all time, perpetually when used as an adverb.

There are several Hebrew and Greek words that are sometimes translated alway and other times translated always in the KJV. The Strong's Concordance dictionary number for each word, its transliteration, definition and the number of times that word is translated either alway or always are given below.

    Hebrew

    3117 yom; day - alway (4), always (4)

5331 netsach; eminence, perpetuity, strength, victory, enduring, everlastingness - alway (1), always (2)

5769 olam; long duration, antiquity, futurity - alway (2), always (3)

    6256 eth; time - alway (0), always (2)

    8548 tamid, continuity - alway (4), always (6)

    Greek

    104 aei; ever, unceasingly - alway (8), always (3)

    1275 diaparatribe; always, continually - alway (2), always (3)

1539 hekastote; each time, always - alway (0), always (2)

    3842 pantote; at a times - alway (1), always (29)

    3956 pas; all, every - alway (1), always (4)

So if you really want to understand any subtle differences in the meanings of the words "alway" and "always" that actually may have been intended by the original author for any given verse you really need a Strong's Concordance with a Hebrew and Greek dictionary.

Government, in the flesh, is corrupt. PERIOD.

There is no Godliness involved in civil government and politics.

Separation by affiliation. Hatred, bitterness, anger etc.

Cast your ballads to spiritual government.

You have 2 choices of affiliation.

Spend your time where it matters. Turn off the boob-tube.

Kay, is Christ saviour of the world or do you believe man has to save himself by not rejecting Christ.

1 Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, that is the SAVIOUR OF ALL MEN, specially those that believe.

Philippians 1:29 For UNTO YOU IT IS GIVEN in behalf of Christ. not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.

Not all men are caused to believe, by Christ, in the age we are now in, but will do so after the next age.

Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of creation WAITETH for the MANIFESTATION OF THE SONS OF GOD,

Romans 8:20 For creation was MADE SUBJECT TO VANITY, not willingly, but by reason OF HIM who hath subjected the same IN HOPE,

Romans 8:21 For creation itself shall also BE DELIVERED from the bondage of corruption (the grave) into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Paul was rejecting the truth of God's word, but in a flash of light Paul fell to his knees.

God is perfectly capable of saving man.

And all UNBELIEVERS shall be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

There seems to be a little confusion in your answer, ELB.

It is true, at the last trumpet, we will all be united with our flesh - but those who have rejected Christ and died in sin will NOT be brought to truth on the other side of this earth!

TODAY is the day of salvation! We must repent while on this EARTH, ELB! Listen to the words of Christ in John 5:

28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Those who have done evil will be damned, for they did not cross from death to life HERE by believing the gospel. And, as I said in a recent thread, no murderers are in heaven, as we clearly see in Revelation 21:18 -

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

I pray these words are a help to you, and Lynn and anyone else reading this thread.

    God bless!

    Hi again Ravina.

To put it in context with the verse you supplied and to be direct.

I begin with "Sin" separates us from God.

Jesus is to you, me and the WHOLE world the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 2:2.

    Here's the definition for Propitiation.

    Greek:

    Transliteration: hilasmos

    Pronunciation: hil-as-mos'

Definition: atonement that is (concretely) an expiator: - propitiation.

    KJV Usage: propitiation.

To expiate is to make amends or reparation for; atone for: expiate one's sins by acts of penance. To make amends; atone.

"The penalty of sin has been paid"

Here's how John the baptist describes him.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29.

Now, to put my first reply in harmony with this post,

Though Jesus is our propitiation for our sins, we must accept him and believe this good news.

    "The Gospel".

    1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

    Romans 10:9-10. ect...

If we reject this good news here's our fate.

Hebrews 10:26-27. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

When we have been truly born again we're given the a new nature and power over sin.

Romans 6:20-22. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

Hello Anthony, I was wondering if your comments was to invite others to tell about who God is (a deep and inexhaustible matter) or if you were stating that "God Is" as a statement pointing towards His self-existence and along the lines of Him being He is Who He is as in Exodus when He told Moses His name was I AM WHO I AM (YHWH) which alludes to His self-existence and absoluteness of Bring.

Let us know so we can respond better to your post.

Dear Alex, I am sorry that your daughter suffers so. I will pray for her. My sons suffer from anxiety/depressive disorder and it is very concerning to my husband and I. We are committed to being prayerful for them and to being available and supportive to them. They are all in their thirties, so as adults, I can only enter their sphere as they wish. But they are getting better at being more open with us. It is pretty heart breaking to see our children suffer and put themselves in danger.

I often think of how I was so careful as a mom to provide a loving, enjoyable childhood for these boys. I was a stay at home mom for 17 years and loved this time I had with our sons. When I reflect on this, I just cannot understand why our sons suffer like this and other parents who were far less involved with their children and did not bring them up in a Christian home have grown children who are married, with children, and no apparent problems. I just have to give it all to Jesus and believe that He is at work in the lives of our sons and loves them exceedingly more than my husband or I every could combined.

I am looking forward to the day when all of these lovely persons are well and healthy, but mostly, I am looking forward when all of our sons return to the Lord and live the wonderful life of being God's child.

Alex, I will remember your daughter when I pray for my sons.

Kay, I was thinking the same thing about Samson when he was mentioned on this thread. His actions were an act of war in which he knew he would die as a result. But, he did this to fight against the enemies of Israel that were a real threat.

    Hi Ravina,

Jesus is with me in all things in my life, in all my thoughts, in all my words, in all my actions and all of my circumstances. ( Hebrews 4:13) So, when I sin, He is with me when I sin and is grieved by it, as I should be also, if the Holy Spirit has regenerated me, given me the faith to believe and be converted and is indwelling me to sanctify me and transform me to become more and more Like Jesus, who never sinned. Therefore, when I sin, I desire and hope that I would be grieved and convicted of it quickly. and then I can turn to Jesus and confess my sin to Him and know that He is faithful and just to forgive me. ( 1 John 1:9) Jesus has compassion for me because bring God Incarnated as a human, understands our weaknesses, having been temped in all points as we are, yet He did not give in to sin. ( Hebrews 4:14-16) I can be assured that Jesus is not a God that is far away, but nearer than the closest friend I could ever have. I can trust Him to love me though I am a sinner, but His life and work of salvation has opened the way for me to have become a child of God Our Father in heaven. I can be confident that I remain God's child throughout this earthly life and forever in eternity. I can know for sure that nothing can separate me from God's love for me because Jesus is my Savior forever and in Him we have peace with God.

Ravina, I hope that you will tell us what Jesus is to you when you sin, as well. I am sure that you have nothing but good things to say about Him, since He is perfect in every way. God bless you today.

Hi Tray . I don't believe that we have to be around any one that we don't want to be . If I suspect that some one doesn't like me or that we have very little in common or that they might be a bad influence on me I keep away from them . This doesn't mean that I wish them any harm or have bad feelings towards them . Most of us naturally gravitate towards people that we feel safe and comfortable with . As long as we are not despising people in our hearts or wishing them harm or thinking that we are better than others , we all just get on better with some people rather than others that's all . Forgive , forget and move on .

Hello John . There is some evidence of the kind of thing that I think u r talking about . In Exodus Ch 28 we read of the Urim and Thummim , which were stones carried in the high priests breastplate . They r only mentioned about half a dozen times in the Old Testament and if u read Num Ch 27 v 21 and 1st Sam Ch 28 V 6 , it does appear that they were used to make decisions . This was a very specific method given to the Israelites at that time , I don't believe we should b trying in any way to recreate them . There's a very good book about making decisions based on foolish divination practises , it's called the Dice Man by Luke Rheinhart .
