Hello Grae, I took a week off of posting by prompting from the Holy Spirit, so I hope you didn't think I ignored this post. I was just waiting for the week to be up to respond. As I stated before, the church I am speaking of is not a particular denomination. I am speaking of the Christian Church in general from the 1st century up to now. I hope this answers your question.

The topic I was addressing with Alex is about God impregnating believers with his spiritual seed to bring forth a baby Christ or baby Holy Ghost or that we become a baby Christ or a baby Holy Ghost or that God does this to replicate or multiply Himself in believers.

This teaching goes against what God has stated adamantly throughout Scripture that He alone is God and there is, has been, and will be no other gods (created beings) beside Himself. Also, I do not see this narrative of Alex's proclaimed in Scripture anywhere. Neither has the church through the ages affirmed such a narrative as legitimate doctrine, rather that anyone who claims that they can become 'god' in any way is speaking heresy. That is my position.

I have been studying up on these statements of Alex's to see what reputable sites have to say about these views. If you want to find out, I suggest exploring the ideas on sites like CARM, Got Questions, Bible ask, and others. You can google:

    Theosis

    'Little gods"

    Spirit of Sonship/Adoption

    Partakers of the divine nature

You will find that those who think like Alex are usually among the Pentacostal, Word of Faith, non-denominational charismatic church groups. Those who oppose it comprise the overwhelming majority of Christian denominations active today.

I suggest that you look at articles from both sides and compare the ideas to Scripture like I have in the past (because this view has been going around some portions of the groups I mentioned since 1948, but especially ramped up in the 70's and beyond).

I studied up on it then and found this teaching heretical, as I do now

Thank you Gabriel, you have blessed me with your prayers for me. have a restful, peaceful night. I am learning to be more and more prayerful by attending to the prayer requests section on this site. God will use our obedience and love in prayer to bring about wonderful answers and blessings to those prayed for and to those who pray.

Alisa, My condolences to you and your family. I am sure God used you to open up Your Grandma's heart. Please know that hearing is the one sense that hangs on to the end, so it is great that You read from Scripture and was there to visit her in her final days. May you be comforted and given peace in this matter. You have been obedient and loving, and that is really what God wants from us in any situation, but especially with those who are in a crisis of life or death, such as your Grandma was facing.

    Blessings to you tonight.

    S. Spencer again

I would love to hear you ideas concerning this.

I know that God has said multiple times in Scripture that He alone is God and there is, never has, never will be, any other. He says that He will not share His glory with another god (which would be a created being). So, to claim that believers become gods or divine contradicts what God has clearly stated strongly time and time again.

I do think that the fact of our union in Christ is the only basis for us to partake of His divine nature but we do not acquire His ontological essence. Only He possesses that solely within the Godhead. There are no more divine persons added to the Godhead.

When we get married, we enter a union with our spouse, but we still remain our essential selves. These selves are not mixed together to form a third self (except in the conception of a child). But as for the two spouses our beings are not fused together nor infused into the other. If that were so, a divorce would tear this new single entity in two. That doesn't happen.

So, being in union with Christ does not mean we mix our being with Christ's being to become one new mixed being, eliminating the individual persons of the original two.

In a similar vein, in Christ's Being, both the divine nature and human nature are unified in one Person, but not mixed together to form one God/human nature in place of the two individual natures. Christ is unique. He alone possesses both a divine and human nature. We are only human by nature and will continue to be only human by nature into eternity, however glorified and made incorruptible like the human nature of Jesus in heaven. I think it is blasphemous to claim that any created being can ascend to become divine. The reality is that God the son in humility incarnated in human flesh taking on its nature, but still remaining divine, too. This was an immense condescension on His part.

I am interested in how you view this topic. It is very concerning to me to hear

Hello Mr. Spencer, I am doing well. I was just prompted by the Holy Spirit to take a week off of posting. I 've been reading posts this week and keeping up with the prayer requests without posting until today. It was good to see a few others posting their prayer support for requests this past week and to see some new posters on the discussion page. I love that.

My husband and I began a new outdoor project last weekend and it will most likely take us into April to finish. I have been occupied with this outside each day since the weather has been fair.

Also, I have been researching the ideas Alex repeatedly posts about the Seed of God impregnating believers to bring about a birth of a baby Christ or Holy Spirit in believers, or that this pregnancy replicates or multiplies God, or that this pregnancy makes us into baby Jesus' or baby Holy Spirit. My exchange with him was my last post last week and since I told him once again that I consider these views heretical, I though I should study his views more to see where they come do come from. I am aware of the "little gods" "sonship" and :manifest sons of God" heresies and perhaps that is where he gets this theology.

But I wanted to see if it is being taught in another setting other than this, as I am not aware of any church that holds orthodox theological views on this that teaches as Alex or these other "movements" do. I am aware that the concept of "theosis" (deification of humanity) has been taught in the church since early times, but these teachings do not teach that we acquire God's essential deity, but rather his communicated divine character attributes such as love, patience, wisdom, etc. These teachings do teach that we partake of the divine nature as 2 Peter 1:4 states, but again our nature does not change from human to divine, rather due to our union with Christ, we are privileged to share in what Jesus has by this union. Our human nature is not mixed with His divine nature (this is impossible). Thanks.

That's a hard topic; and it's one that no 'doctrine' can really be formed on, actually. Solomon, known for wisdom, said in Eccl. 3:21 -

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Jesus comes back on a horse - and His armies with Him, the Bible said. Jesus said that the Father was with the sparrows when they fall; why would He bother?

Romans 8 is also is interesting:

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Lots to think about! :) We will be so surprised, and so amazed, at what the Lord will yet do, that's for sure! :)

I will respond to your second question. I was in the Catholic church; I was baptized as an infant, and was involved in that false church till I was 30 years old. The Lord gloriously saved me - and when He did, I realized immediately that there was a lot wrong; and the more I read His word, the more I understood it was and is a false 'church', and left. I attended a Bible-believing church after that for many years, but little by little, that church took a 'seeker-friendly' direction, and the Holy Spirit prompted me to leave. After that, to shorten this story, I was in several other churches, which either ended going 'seeker-friendly', or 'ecumenical' or some other wrong direction. Each time it was time to move, the Holy Spirit led me out - for He leads us into all TRUTH. The most important thing is to follow the Holy Spirit and heed that leading! The Lord will never leave His own in error! Don't follow man, but follow the Spirit of the living God, and be in the Word constantly, hiding it in your heart daily! Blessings!

I have nothing to offer but what the Lord graciously gives me, Suze, All glory to Him!! Praise Jesus!

If I can, by His grace, be a blessing to His lambs, it just makes my day! To hear you were encouraged by what the Lord put in my heart to share with you and the rest of the forum is a huge blessing. But again - the glory goes to Jesus! He places the Bread in my 'hands' - I'm just the one who happens to pass it along! :)

I remember I heard a visiting preacher once say, when the church clapped as they welcomed him into the pulpit: "How foolish it would have been for the donkey who was carrying Jesus to think all the Hosanna's were for her!" :) We are, after all, only the 'donkeys' who carry the presence of Jesus to others! He is worthy of all praise, at all times!

I'm sorry I'm late in responding. My computer time is often limited due to other duties. But I will check back as I can! It's so good to hear from you!

The Lord bless thee and make HIS face to SHiNE upon you, Suze!

hopefully this is what you're asking for, but there is also a few more you will find throughout the NT.

Matthew 24:27 "For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."

Matthew 26:64 "Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

Mark 14:62 "And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."

Revelation 1:7 "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."

Acts 1:9-11, "Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven."

First Question: What are the seven churches by name, and what does it mean to know of them?

Question: What of those faithfully believe in Jesus, but are innocently lead/deceived by the wrong church?
  • RichFairhurst - In Reply on Matthew 7:12 - 3 years ago
    (Not Duplicate)

    As proof that Matthew 7:12:

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

is a restatement and probable expansion of our obligations under the second great commandment, Matthew 22:36-40 says:

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The end of verse Mt 7:12 and Mt 22:40 are basically identical.

Jesus never made any statement like that when he referred to Leviticus 24:20, which in its full context in Leviticus 24:17-22 reads:

17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death. 18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast. 19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; 20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. 21 And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death. 22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

This law was never given under the Law as the basis for vigilante vengence where individuals take matters into their own hands, but always fell on the entire covenant community under the Law to bring before judges that called for witness testimony before any sentences were passed or carried out. Also, any sentence that were be carried out as a result of this law against any stranger must equally be carried out on any member of the covenant community for the same offense to uphold the name of the LORD our God. So, take great care and don't apply it lightly.

Oh Ashley. I am sorry for your Grandma's passing. But it is really wonderful that you and your family got to visit with her before then. God overcame some big obstacles to bring this about. We can be thankful for that. I hope you had a chance to speak of Go and His ways with her.

When my mother in law died, I was not sure of her "salvation status". and fretted a bit, as she died suddenly a few states away from us. But I remembered that Scriptures does say that the God of the whole earth will judge rightly. So I knew that i needed to just release all that concern to God and let Him handle what happened to her after her death. In this life, we pray and speak to those we love of the salvation that is in Christ Jesus. But it is really God's work that saves and we can know that in this life we take every opportunity that God provides to speak of Jesus to those in our spheres and then when death comes, we commit those we know to God.

May your family be comforted and share good memories of your grandmother at this time. it is good that you have one another to share this all with, as it is difficult and sorrowful. Be blessed today, Alisa.

oops didn't quite finish the thought on my first post to you.

Basically, these doctrines appeal to our sinful pride, arrogance and sense of superiority and lead us into sin.

I believe that we are (and have always been) strictly human in nature. In the resurrection, I believe we will remain by nature human, but our humanity will be made incorruptible and glorified like Jesus' human nature. I also believe that at conversion, we remain humans in nature, but that we are indwelt by God as the Holy Spirit regenerates us and makes us alive to God and resides in us. But His residence within us does not mix with our human nature to become a human divine natured the Son's divine nature. God the Son's divine nature did not mix with Jesus' human nature to become one God/human nature. Though they are united in one person, these natures remained separate and fully pure of the other. Jesus is the only Being in all of creation who is both human and divine. No human or angelic being ever ascended to become divine. But God the Son was incarnated in human flesh. He is unique in this. God humbled Himself and condescended into humanity for the plan of the ages to be fulfilled. Namely, the salvation of humanity.

Adam, I have read most of your posts over the past four months and I think we believe much the same way on many things.

I am glad to have your fellowship on this forum.

Again Adam. Thank you for thinking of me. I hate it when we do not hear from people for a while and, like you, are concerned for them. Some have yet to return to this site. Suze has mentioned several, Earl, English Sacha. Others have mentioned Kent Bass. I have mentioned Rick M. and Grace. I hope these people are led to return to this site.

Hi Adam, I am still her and am doing fine. Thank you for being concerned about me. My husband and I started a project last weekend that will take us into April to finish. So, I have been outdoors finishing tasks on that while the weather is good.

Also, I felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to take a week off from posting. I have been doing research on some ideas that are being repeatedly posted on this site to try to understand these beliefs and Scripture interpretations and narratives better.

We are in a time of great error in the church right now. I think it is wise for me to learn what I can about things that seem way off and to test them against Scripture. I do not wish to be bamboozled by any loose 'scriptural" viewpoint. I have had good training in my life so I tend to get "red flags" about many of the doctrines that are now and have been going around in the church for decades. I don't buy into them as I know that many of them lead to heresy and blasphemy.

I especially do not buy into the idea that we in any way become "little gods" or that Jesus or the Holy Spirit is incarnated in each of us to change us from being human into divine beings. Nor do I buy the line that the Father impregnates us with His spiritual seed to cause a spiritual birth of a little Jesus or Holy Spirit in us or that this impregnation makes us little Jesus' or little Holy Ghosts. I reject the idea that God replicates or multiplies Himself or His nature in any created being as, from my training, God's being is one of a kind and can not be transmitted or communicated to anyone else. If this was so, then God would be creating new gods and contradicting Himself when He says that He alone is God and there are no other gods beside, before, or after Him.

This is doctrine for itching ears and for those who wish to be grander than God has created us to be. Also, many believers have had their sinful desire to be important or elite or above or have rule over others by these heresies.

    Dear

David, I agree in prayer with You as we pray for our elected leaders, Mr. Putin and Mr. Zelinski. Lord Jesus, bring Your salvation to each person David mentions here. This is what is needed above all other things. Lord, we continue to ask You to end this invasion of Ukraine. Turn Putin around and send him back home to Russia.

We also pray for our first responders in our cities and towns. Protect them from criminals who wish to harm them or kill them. Have those who wish to do this to them be apprehended before anyone gets killed. We pray for firefighters, also. Lord, we ask that You eliminate any wildfires that are burning now. We ask that You keep wildfires from erupting all over our nation this Spring-Fall. Give our firefighters courage and protection whenever they go to fight a fire. Give them cool heads and skilled hands in treating those who are injured and in need of emergency treatment by them and paramedics. We ask that You will help all who work to keep our cities and towns safe. For all of these things, Lord, we ask that You hear our prayers and answer. We ask in Your name Jesus, knowing that You are more than able to give the best answers. Amen.
