Hello, everyone is a sinner, including Judas (and ourselves). And yes, Judas was a disciple and follower of Christ, both figuratively and literally. So, he was a genuine Christian, but he also genuinely betrayed Jesus, which I think was a form of blaphemy and the unforgiveable sin. That is my personal opinion.

It is one of many examples in the Bible refuting the idea that once you follow Jesus you skip judgment and can commit unlimited sin and blasphemy and follow the world and satan to infinity with zero consequence and that Jesus is somehow totally ok with that. I personally don't believe anyone is 'saved' until we have the day of judgment Romans 14:10, Hebrews 9:27, but believe we can have assurance of salvation for following Jesus. God bless.

Im sorry but Moses was given the 10 commandments no where in the Bible of the New testament dose it say to continue in animal sacrifice. Christ Yeshua is our new covenant. Could I ask you what scripture do you refer to in Galatians. For in Galatians 2:18 St Paul destroyed the works of the Law, The transgressor here is one who tries to reinstitute the Jewish Law.

We die through the law not bypassing or dishonoring it but by recongnizing that it is holy, that we deserve its consequence death and that we voluntarily die to the Law through our death with Christ being crucified with Christ through Baptism we come alive to the law of the Spirit which perfects the intention of the OT law. There is no contradiction between law and gospel. The law is holy and just and good ROM 7:12 However the Law is weak Rom 8:3 and obsolete Heb 8:13 for it is fulfilled in the gospel in Christ Himself....God bless you

Hi Mary Beth, I've seen people discussing addiction on here before. This is common struggle many people have, but I think many people are embarassed, or maybe prideful to share that, so that's one possible explanation for not seeing it more. You can do an advanced search for the discussion pages and maybe find some.

Some post for different reasons and aren't necessarily looking for help. Some look only for validation and have no intention on breaking addiction or strongholds. Maybe fewer people want solutions. These verses seem relevent: Galatians 6:1, 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15, Ephesians 5:11. When compassion turns into condoning or supporting someone harming themself I think its wrong to condone self harm and evil. Our bodies are on loan from God and God's holy temple and we are to treat it with respect and dignity. And if I try the Galations 6:1 approach to gently restore someone, but they have no interest in letting go the stronghold, then I think Ephesians 5:11 applies. If we entangle ourselves with evil we can only cause further harm to ourselves and others around us. We can still lovingly pray for someone, but not put ourselves in a situation where we are supporting someone's self-harm and violation of God's commandments. Not sure what info you're looking for exactly or what specific addiction you have in mind, but that's just an opinion. God bless...

Thanks brother S. Spencer for that pertinent discourse by McGee; he clearly & accurately presents the case for election & predestination.

In regards to his word, "So we have Predestination and Mans free will. I don't know how to reconcile them, but they are both true. The Father gives men to Christ, but men have to come. And the ones that come are the ones, apparently, whom the Father gives to Him".

I think of John 6:44, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." By His Spirit, God draws men to Him. The Gospel goes out to all but some are moved by its message & Work of God continues with that penitent soul. Others, receiving the Gospel remain unmoved, even against it, yet the Spirit continues His Work till that soul sees the Light. These are all part of the elect of God. Those who reject Christ to the end of their lives have by their Will shown that they are not part of God's Elect & nothing would ever move them towards desiring the Salvation of God. In summary, man cannot present any excuse to God in that final day.

That's true Bob. In His Humanity, Jesus was 'separate' from His Father: the Word of God made flesh ( John 1:14). In the flesh, Jesus faced all the temptations, pain & heartaches that we feel, even as you shared, He felt loneliness by the Father's aloofness at that important time - that is why it's written concerning His Humanity, "For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted" ( Hebrews 2:18). Jesus was perfect Man, doing His Father's Will & then to return to Heaven from whence He came. Even as He prayed, "O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was." This little verse alone tells us a lot about Who this Jesus is before He came to give Himself for us.

Indeed, we cannot see Jesus without revelation granted of God in Christ Jesus. How critical to the life of the just and their faith-walk to "know" God in Christ Jesus. Our knowledge must be personal, intimate, and accurate for upon this "knowing" the quality of our warfare depends. Ephesians says to war successfully we must be able to cast down every vain imagination that exalts itself above the knowledge of (translated - what we know to be true about) God. We could not cast vain imaginations down if we believe them ... if we believe a lie about our Christ! Like, he doesn't care, he no longer heals ... you've done too much wrong ... you haven't done enough right for God to answer your prayers, to love you still, to be perfected (at His best) in your weakness. How devastating a blow such belief would be in a wrestling match with the enemy! No! I say our Lord is motivated by His great unfailing relentless love for us, so that He made a way to reconcile us to the Father BEFORE we were, and certainly BEFORE Adam sinned! Then God gave us His only Son, not as a God, but Jesus came to the earth as a son of a man so that He would "qualify" to die in our place so we could live in His - born anew by the second Adam. The Covenant sacrifice in blood, sprinkled on the altar ... the ordinances that were against us blotted out by his blood spilled for us, the debts incurred by our sin ... every one nailed to the cross in His body broken for us. Having given His ONLY Son, what would Abba Father withold - no good thing! And Jesus, having given himself - what better love is found and this while we were yet in our sin. Our opinion of Him should be just as the scriptures describe and the new testament relate. We-are-loved, protected, forgiven, reconciled, redeemed, protected, restored to sonship status in the earth - that as He (Jesus is), so are we in the earth!
  • Adam - In Reply on John 14 - 3 years ago
I think a mistake would be assuming Jesus's temporary form as a human being was somehow His "only" form, because John 1:1 already said Jesus was God from the beginning. So, yes, as a man, Jesus had intentional limited power as a man. Fully God and man, but choosing to have the constraints and full experience of a man. Obviously His deity-aspect was revealed through miracles, wisdom, clairvoyance of future, and supernatural ability to know people's thoughts and heart, but He prayed to His father like any other man. He could have called 10,000 angels but didn't. Matthew 26:53. So He operated mostly within human constraints on purpose, including experiencing a full human death. God bless.

Thanks Rich. I fully concur with your thoughts as you took in 1 Peter 3:22 as well. I avoided considering that verse in the light of what was being discussed, inverted parallelism & its need in those particular verses 20 & 21.

Yes indeed, believers then, as now, can take great comfort that even though identification with Christ in baptism & their Christian witness brought them before wicked accusing minds & actions, their real joy & confidence lay in the completed Work of Jesus seated now at the Father's right Hand, under Whose authority all men & spirits are subject. Truly, "weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning".

    Hi Bob.

    Here's what's important.

Galatians 5:19-26. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, "VARIANCE," emulations, wrath, "STRIFE," seditions, heresies,

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

    God bless.

    Part 4.

God has never predestined anybody to be lost. That's where your free will comes in, and you have to determine for yourself what your choice will be. Predestination refers only to those who are saved. What it actually means is that when God starts out with one hundred sheep, He is going to come through with one hundred sheep. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren" ( Rom. 8:28-29). Dr. R. A. Torrey used to say that this is a wonderful pillow for a tired heart. Those who are called according to His purpose are predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son. We're talking now about saved people. Romans goes on to explain how this is done. "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified" ( Rom. 8:30). When God starts out with one hundred sheep, He will come through with one hundred sheep. You must admit that that is a good percentage.

So we have Predestination and Mans free will.

I don't know how to reconcile them, but they are both true. The Father gives men to Christ, but men have to come. And the ones that come are the ones, apparently, whom the Father gives to Him.

    End J Vernon Mcgee's Quote.

Some believe in what's called limited atonement. "Christ died for ONLY the elect, and they say "the elect" is who's predestinated.

Here's a verse that refutes that.

1 John 2:2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: AND NOT FOR OUR'S ONLY, BUT ALSO FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

    Part 3.

God chose Israel in time; He chose the church in eternity. Since God made the choice in eternity, there has not arisen anything unforeseen to Him which has caused Him to revamp His program or change His mind. He knew the end from the beginning (see Acts 15:18).

First of all, we've seen that He chose us-and that's a pretty hard pill for us to swallow. Secondly, the Father predestinated us to the place of sonship. Thirdly, the Father made us accepted in the Beloved.

I cannot repeat often enough that election is God's choosing us in Christ. I emphasize again that men are not lost because they have not been elected. They are lost because they are sinners and that is the way they want it and that is the way they have chosen. The free will of man is never violated because of the election of God. The lost man makes his own choice. Augustine expressed it like this: "If there be not free will grace in God, how can He save the world? And if there be not free will in man, how can the world by God be judged?" Here again is Paul's strong statement, "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid" ( Rom. 9:14). Now if you think that there is some unrighteousness with God, you had better change your mind.

Predestination is never used in reference to unsaved people. God has never predestinated anybody to be lost. If you are lost, it is because you have rejected God's remedy. It is like a dying man to whom the doctor offers curing medicine. "If you take this, it'll heal you." The man looks at the doctor in amazement and says, "I don't believe you." Now the man dies and the doctor's report says he died of a certain disease, and that's accurate. But may I say to you, there was a remedy, and he actually died because he didn't take the remedy. God has provided a remedy.

    Rachel.

    Part 2.

He told me to preach the gospel to every creature that 'whosoever will may come.'" Jesus says, "and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." So, my friend, you can argue about election all you want to, but you can come. And if you come, He'll not cast you out. Someone may ask, "You mean that if I'm not the elect I can still come?" My friend, if you come you will be the elect.

The late Dr. Harry A. Ironside told this story. A little boy was asked, "Have you found Jesus?" The little fellow answered, "Sir, I didn't know He was lost. But I was lost and He found me." My friend, you don't find Jesus. He finds you. He is the One who went out after the lost sheep, and He is the One who found that sheep. God chose believers in Christ before the foundation of the world, way back in eternity past. That means that you and I didn't do the choosing. He did not choose us because we were good or because we would do some good, but He did choose us so that we could do some good. The entire choice is thrown back upon the sovereignty of the wisdom and goodness of God alone. It was Charles Spurgeon who once said, "God chose me before I came into the world, because if He'd waited until I got here, He never would have chosen me." It is God who has chosen us - we have not chosen Him. The Lord Jesus said to His own in the Upper Room, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you " ( John 15:16). Dr. G. Campbell Morgan commented, "That puts the responsibility on Him. If He did the choosing, then He's responsible." That makes it quite wonderful!

Israel furnishes us an example of this divine choosing. "Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities" ( Amos 3:1-2).

    Hi Rachel.

    Here's a writing from J Vernon Mcgee.

    Part 1 of ?

    John 6:37.

This thirty-seventh verse is a very important verse. There is a theological argument that rages today on election or free will. There are some people who put all their eggs in the basket of election. There are others who put all their eggs in the basket of free will. I'm not proposing to reconcile the two because I have discovered that I cannot. If you had met me the year that I entered seminary, or the year I graduated, I could have reconciled them for you. I never have been as smart as I was my first year and my last year in seminary. I knew it all then. I could reconcile election and free will, and it was a marvelous explanation. Now I've even forgotten what it was. It was pretty silly, if you want to know the truth.

Election and free will are both in this verse. "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me" states a truth, and that is election. But wait a minute! and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" is also true, and "him that cometh to me" is free will. I don't know how to reconcile them, but they are both true. The Father gives men to Christ, but men have to come. And the ones that come are the ones, apparently, whom the Father gives to Him. You and I are down here, and we don't see into the machinery of heaven. I don't know how God runs that computer of election, but I know that He has given to you and to me a free will and we have to exercise it.

Because Spurgeon preached a "whosoever will" gospel, someone said to him, "If I believed like you do about election, I wouldn't preach like you do." Spurgeon's answer was something like this, "If the Lord had put a yellow stripe down the backs of the elect, I'd go up and down the street lifting up shirt tails, finding out who had the yellow stripe, and then I'd give them the gospel. But God didn't do it that way.

    Hi Nancy.

James 4:14 (KJV) Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

You're correct I don't see that verse putting any emphasis on family relationships in Heaven.

It should be noted that "accepting" Jesus is something the demons do according to James (and rather sarcastically at that). He is feared among them for His authority; but not worshipped as they gave up their rightful place through rebellion that they were created for. Christ is Lord over all creation; as all will bow down before Him. ( Isaiah 45:23). In terms of Savior; all those who are called are chosen. This is in a sense Him "accepting us" as He does into the beloved ( Ephesians 1:6). Even repentance is a gift according to other verses in Acts 11:18 for one example.

If we HAVE heard of Christ; then we can either worship Him and fall on our knees; or reject Him. This is how man understands God based on whether the Holy Spirit has truly done a work in him. Often; though we don't read John 3:16 as something beyond a one time act; it is worded that way though as a continual ongoing process. A true believer; according to Romans goes on to be glorified ( Romans 8:30). Time is infinite with God's perspective; as many things were decided before the foundation of the world. We can see this in Revelation; as well as all will worship the Beast not written in the Book of Life before the foundation of the world ( Rev. 13:8).

If we haven't heard of Him; then surely God will send a dream; vision or missionary as evidenced by many Muslims and others in the world today. Abraham was called and sent away from his pagan origins to the land of Promise by the Lord.

If we truly seek Him; there may be a process but we will find the truth. Romans 1 and Psalm 19 make man without excuse; as clearly in the Creation evidence of Him is seen. In all that we see how short we are of His glory; a tattered fallen Creation; and our need for rescue from inevitable physical death as well as begin to see a righteousness that we cannot obtain or reach in our fleshy nature. Ecclesiastes also states how God has put "eternity in their hearts." ( Ecclesiastes 3:11).

The first four verses contain the somewhat controversial saying in regard to a man divorcing his wife due to "uncleanness". It would seem that it could only refer to a wife not being a virgin BEFORE an espousement period; as an engagement had the same punishment as that of someone actually married-the death penalty for relations with another man. Women were expected to be virgins; and in this situation if it turned out that they weren't they were free to marry another. They could not return if the next husband dumped them or he died. As I read scripture, once a marriage is CONSUMMATED at least in the New Testament as long as the spouse lives; one cannot remarry another. If uncleanness meant some sickness or not; that is open to debate.

There are further admonitions for new husbands in v. 5; and pledges in v. 6. Interestingly; what Joseph's brothers did would be liable for a death penalty according to v. 7.

Leprosy is briefly touched upon in verse 7 as to rules for cleanness; with a sobering reminder of what happened with Miriam cited earlier in scripture.

Rules on pledges follow; followed by fair timely payment for a hired servant. Verse 16 discusses what is found in Ezekiel regarding a son not being held liable for a father's sin and vice versa.

The rest of the verses remind us of how to treat the orphan and widow. It is a repeated admonition to save food and not do a final gleaning of various produce of the field. It reminds us of the verse in James; about true religion and helping out the orphan and widow. ( James 1:27).

The scripture clearly teaches many statutes that are still binding today. The only real change is that of ceremonial foods; (as God directed Peter on in the Book of Acts); and the Sabbath (Christ is now Lord of the Sabbath). However; anyone who does not keep the whole law is cursed. Hence; Christ is the fulfillment of the law; and the true substance thereof.
  • Suze - In Reply on Ezekiel 37 - 3 years ago
I hate that too . I would rather someone used an actual curse word than use God or Jesus as a curse word . I try hard not to get annoyed with people though . I realise that a lot of people say things out of habit and hardly even realise what they are saying or that they are saying something offensive . I still does make me cringe every time though .
