Hello Ida. The Apostle Paul, known as Saul earlier, was a member of a Jewish religious sect called the Pharisees. Paul himself referred to this position that he previously held (in Acts 23:6; Acts 26:5; Philippians 3:5,6). There were three main Jewish sects at that time of Jesus' Life on Earth: the Pharisees, the Sadducees, & the Essenes. The Pharisees (which meant, 'separated one'), had very strong beliefs, so strong that they compelled people to fully obey God's Laws. And to do this, they created many other laws (practises of behaviour) that weighed heavily upon the common people. And Jesus greatly condemned them for this & their many hypocrisies ( Matthew 23:1-36).

But when Saul met the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus, he instantly learned that the Christians he was hunting down & killing were serving this Jesus Whom he was encountering at that very moment. Saul was a changed man & as he learned more from Jesus, with the Spirit filling him to believe & serve, he could say in Philippians 3:7-10, that all that he had learned & believed were now useless & filthy. The new knowledge gained directly from Jesus revealed his errors as a Pharisee - his trusting in the Law to make him righteous could never work, but now having only faith in Christ to save him, did.

I trust you can see how wonderfully the revelation of Christ to Saul changed him from a strict Pharisee (Saul) to one of a humble obedient servant of Jesus (Paul) trusting in Christ now & moved in his spirit to reach out to his countrymen & also to the Gentiles.

Hello David. It's difficult to tell exactly from the Hebrew, but this verse seems to give direction to the chief musician for use of the stringed musical instruments (Neginoth), & specifically an eight-stringed lyre or harp (sheminith). As you might know, many of the Psalms were put to music & sung by Israel, even the early Church as part of their 'hymal', & so this instruction of using stringed instruments may have been used when this Psalm was sung. Six other Psalms are so directed as well.

Of course Bron, my answer would be, Jesus is 'The Son of God'. Yet, when we read the passage you gave ( Matthew 22:41-46), the Pharisees, who did not believe that this Jesus before them, was the Christ from God, prompted Jesus to question them on what they did believe, i.e. when Christ comes, He will be of the lineage of King David, as promised. Jeremiah 23:5,6 gives us the clearest allusion to Jesus' heritage through David, as both Messiah & King.

So the Pharisees gave the correct answer according to their understanding of the Scriptures pertaining to the coming Christ. But Jesus wanted to put a question in their minds concerning not just that belief, but Who it was standing before them. So Jesus referred to Psalm 110:1, where David wrote that "the LORD (Jehovah) said unto my Lord". If David called the Messiah 'Lord', how then is He David's son? For no father ever called his son, Lord of his life. Even though in this passage, Jesus didn't say that 'I am that One', the Pharisees were put in quite a theological predicament as to the claim of Messiah being David's Son. This predicament ought to have them run to search the Scriptures further & again take a good long look at Jesus, Who not only came in David's lineage ( Matthew 1:1), but also came fully endowed with Divine powers & graces, proving that David's Son is also the One from God, fully divine and indeed the Messiah they were expecting. But we know what they treated Him rather than falling at His Feet in shame & repentance.

Dear "Gretchen", it would have been good for you to relax with this prayer of course. God's Holy Word says something nice: Matthew 6:33

Dear God Father in Heaven, you know all things. Now You see Gretshen Lord she seeks Your kingdom, and will lay her worries on You Lord. Guide her on the path that leads to heaven and in Your holy dwellings. Where there is never any need and longing of any kind. That way, you will fulfill all her desires in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ, Amen

That's a great question Adam & shows sensitivity to the things God has blessed you with, as opposed to the world's thinking ( Luke 12:16-21).

The verse that came to mind is Matthew 6:19-21, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

I believe that the Lord is giving this instruction, one of many special directions to His disciples according to what they were seeing around them: the rich & poor for instance. And this instruction is more than about the measure of wealth, whether in coin or other possessions, since I doubt whether the disciples ever came into a position of amassing any amount of wealth. Rather, the Lord was directing them to the focus of the heart & life to every area of life & not to set their hearts on things that are of little worth or can disappear.

Therefore, the first indicator of a misdirected attraction to one's possessions or to the inordinate pursuit of them, would be: is there still a true mental & emotional balance when dealing with personal finances? Is the heart continually affixed on making more of it for reasons that show one's lust to gain more rather than for more worthy reasons? Certainly, we need to provide for loved ones, pay bills, put aside some for the future, but also, we need to have the capacity to look for opportunities to give to those in real need, the work of the Gospel, to organizations/ministries that are truly reaching out with help to the poor.

And in the parable of the talents, the message was more than making good decisions in trading, but that responsibility in small things engenders greater trust in handling larger endowments. God will trust us with more when our hearts are towards Him alone & not affixed on perishable things.

The Lord God is righteous and holy in everything He does. As we chose to learn more about Him, we find that God is consistent in His dealings with us.

We fall out of the favor of God because of our sinful actions. God does not leave or forsake us. His promises are sure and faithful.

We need to learn His Word, trust in His word, and walk in His word to be prosperous, blessed, and a blessing. The Lord bless and keep everyone on this forum. February 23, 2022

    Hi Marcus.

Amen. Abel acted on faith demonstrated by obedience.

By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. Hebrews 11:4.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17.

I believe these verses suggest that offering the firstling of his flock was being preached. "Faith comes by hearing"

    God bless.

My prayer is for the healing (IF it is in the LORD'S WILL) of three friends, one undergoing chemo for cancer, one overcoming COVID-19, and one who has bladder cancer and may face surgery. If it is in God's will for a miracle for these three, this is my prayer.

Let's review what Moses wrote in Genesis 5:1-31

This is the book of genealogy of Adam

...God created man...Adam lived...begot...Seth...and he died

    Seth lived...begot Enosh...lived..and he died

    Enosh lived...begot Cainan...lived...and he died

    Cainan lived...begot Mahalalel...lived...and he died

    Mahalalel lived...begot Jared...lived...and he died

    Jared lived...begot Enoch...lived...and he died

Enoch lived...begot Methuselah...walked with God...and he was not, for God took him

    Methuselah lived...begot Lamech...lived...and he died

    Leech lived...begot Noah...lived...and he died

Setting aside Adam for the moment, let's be little children in our thinking and not wise to play the Sesame Street song:

One of these things is not like the others,

One of these things just doesn't belong,

Can you tell which thing is not like the others

By the time I finish my song?

Did you guess which thing was not like the others?

Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?

If you guessed this one is not like the others,

    Then you're absolutely...right!

The idea that taken = dead is wrong it means both dead and saved/translated depending on if the individual is a subject of God's grace or judgement, just like the words lifted up. To lift someone means both to restore/exalt them and execute/condemned them in scripture often paired together.

    Genesis 40:12

Now within three days Pharaoh will LIFT up your head and restore you to your place...

    Genesis 40:19

Within three days Pharaoh will LIFT off your head from you and hang you on a tree

John 3:13-14 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Always keep in mind the Word of God is a double edge sword that cuts both ways. The same word of faith saves Moses and his people but hardens/judges Pharoah and his people.
