This chapter is mostly referring to a victory song; which Moses initiated and later Miriam continued with timbrel and dance (a sort of worship leader). This demonstrates that it is not just Psalms where music is indicated but it is here and in Deuteronomy as well. Of course within a few days murmuring already occurred after this event. The tree cast into the water in verse 25 is similar to the miracle in the book of Kings where Elijah made the poison of no effect from the gourd that was prepared; there were oats I believe tossed into it.

Verse 26 could have a dual meaning; it could mean that all illnesses in general that prevailed in Egypt would not enter the camp of Israel if they are obedient; and/or that the plagues causing boils and other pestilences on man and beast would not occur. The fact was; that no one can effectively follow all of God's commandments; however that starts from the first part of the verse hearkening or listening to God's voice. And it alludes to the First Commandment; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart; soul; mind and strength. As we continue on in Exodus and further scriptures; it is obvious that total obedience wasn't something even attempted; only Joshua and Caleb from that generation even made it to the Promised land-but all the children who were considered doomed did make it. These pathetic behaviours made a journey which should have been weeks long last for 40 YEARS!!! Even then; conquering the land was only to be in stages and never was completed to this day. It will be someday; in the 1000 year reign of Christ. The Lord is faithful to accomplish His purposes no matter what.

The consummation of all the promised events; to fulfill God's covenant promises made 430 years before this event finally came during the events of this chapter. The plagues and the final pursuit of the Egyptians is certainly similar to Armageddon after the plagues (bowl judgments in particular) where blasphemy towards God is demonstrated by those suffering on earth. We see waters turned to blood; hail; and a final push against the Lord and His people much like that in Psalm 2. There were statements made by Pharaoh about wishing to be blessed; admissions of sin and the like but clearly they were disingenuous at best; as the continuing narrative indicates. As to a question on his death; it is unclear here whether he was included among the "hosts" in verse 28; or whether Pharaoh stood by the shore and observed all this from his vantage point. There is also a theory that King Tut was no other than the last Pharaoh who met an untimely death. There is also the evidence of hailstone imprints on the pyramids in Egypt indicative of that plague occurring.

The Lord; as in the time an angel destroyed 144,000 Syrians in one night would fight for His people. This basically also will happen with the cruel servitude in the last days; when the "Assyrian" mentioned in Isaiah will be eliminated who rules with cruelty. We need to consider how the fear of those Israelites who crossed over the Red Sea was temporal; and how soon after they rebelled. They already complained in verse 12 despite all the miracles God did for their benefit in Egypt. God had vested the authority in Moses to use the rod to proceed in verse 16 after he was perplexed himself in verse 15. His humility may have made him overly cautious; but kept him from assuming that he could go ahead with plans when unknown sin was in the camp and this probably was because of never forgetting the lesson from killing the Egyptian 40years previously.

So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor." Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death.

It was before the LORD: David didn't let Michal's sarcastic criticism ruin his day. He simply explained the truth: "I did it for God, not for you."

I will be humble in my own sight: What David did was humbling to Him. He didn't dance to show others how spiritual he was.

David would more and more abase himself before the Lord. He felt that whatever Michal's opinion of him might be, it could not be more humbling than his own view of himself.

Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death: Michal's barrenness was not necessarily the result of Divine judgment. It may be that David never had marital relations with her again.

David evaded Saul and was living in the hills many years. Absence does not make the heart finder.

While fleeing Saul, David married 3 other women and had children with them.

Hi Janet. I hope brother Jesse does see your comment & responds, but if I might be allowed to share my understanding of this passage, Hebrews 6:4-9. And I include verse 9 because I believe it's vital to understanding what the Hebrews writer is conveying.

I agree, one could read this portion in various ways, but I read it like this: the writer is sharing an 'impossibility' with his readers. Why does he do this? Well, there were different types of people reading this epistle, chiefly those out of Judaism (as the Letter title suggests). Some had grown weak in faith (hence a 'word' of exhortation: 13:22). Some were in danger of being distracted by the old Judaistic beliefs which tend to minimize or reject the Person of Christ (mostly the whole letter given to this important point). Others were facing persecution (though not to the point of martyrdom: 12:3,4). And others, giving the appearance of being Christian, sharing with other believers in the blessings of God & illumination from His Word.

So what's the 'impossibility'? IF a true believer could fall away from salvation (i.e. lose his salvation by totally rejecting Christ), then he would have to make mockery of Christ's death by ever coming back to the Cross for salvation. The writer says that this is an impossibility - it cannot happen, He cannot be mocked. That is why he was persuaded (confident) that the true believers amongst them would never be like this sad example - rather, they would be bearing fruits from their salvation (v9). And so they were being encouraged to press on in their walk & not grow weary or lose heart. But the imposter 'believer' who ultimately turns his back to Christ, maybe with slanderous words against the One Who came for him, and after receiving every opportunity & blessing from the Word & Holy Spirit, has no further chance of returning back or gaining salvation. See also Hebrews 10:26-29: for a similar warning to those who grievously sin by rejecting Christ to return to Judaism.

Pharaoh even had the gall to ask Moses to bless him. He must have feared for his own life. Even the Egyptian people told the Israelites to leave in haste because they feared they all would die if they remained. The Israelites did as instructed, asking the Egyptians for gold, silver, raiment, which the Egyptians gave willingly. And so it is said that in this way the Israelites plundered Egypt. So they must have left with quite a haul. The Israelites carried their kneading bowl on their shoulders and the dough they had made lacked leaven and they left Egypt, journeying as far as Succoth from Raamses(in Goshen). Where was this Succoth? EAst of Egypt between Raamses and Etham. Many other people exited Egypt with the Israelites. Their origins are not mentioned.

This chapter mentions that the length of the sojourn of Israelites was 430 years, as told to Abraham in Genesis.

So, as mentioned in several posts on this chapter, this account of the passover has many instances that point to Jesus. He was the "first born" who was slaughtered. He was the passover lamb that was sacrificed for God's people's deliverance from the plague of death. His blood was shed and spread over the doorway of our bodies, our hearts. He was the unleavened bread, without sin, broken for us. His bones were not broken just like the lambs'. He died so that His people can live. His blood marks us as His own people.

The Israelites needed to have faith that God would indeed spare them when he "saw" the blood on their doorways. The Israelites were to do all as Moses instructed them by faith that God's ways are right and he is faithful to His words to Moses. The Israelites were to leave on Moses' command and not even think about staying behind and by faith, believe that God would lead them to a land they did not know. The Israelites where then instructed to perpetuate this passover meal forever as a remembrance of God's deliverance of them from death, bondage, and the ways of Egypt.

As this chapter opens, God instructs Moses exactly how the Israelites were to so prepare for the Passover that night and how the Passover must be celebrated from that night on each year by the Israelites forever. God tells Moses that this night will always be the first day of the new year for Israel. (must have had a different day they used as the first day of the new year before this). The Passover (that night) was after the spring equinox, mid-month the first month of Aviv (Spring) in the month of Nisan.

In verse 12 God tells Moses He will execute judgment on all of the gods of Egypt. The Egyptian god for life was Osiris, the great god to the Egyptians. In this final plague God will show Himself supreme over even Osiris, having power over life and death.

Moses instructs the Israelites precisely what they were to do to be passed over by the agents of death sent by God. Obedience was necessary for any Israelite to be spared from death. They were to make unleavened bread for one meal. A lamb selected and slaughtered at midnight (when the plague of death began). They were to use hyssop to spread the blood of the lamb upon the doorposts and lintel. The lamb was to be roasted whole with it's innards intact and no bones are to be broken. It was to be eaten with bitter herbs in haste. The lamb was be consumed completely that night with none left for the next day. They were to be girded up, packed up, staff in hand ready to flee at the command of Moses. They were to stay in their houses until Moses' command came for them to flee in haste.

And thus, at midnight the destroyer came upon Egypt and first born Egyptians and beasts began to be killed. In the middle of the night, Pharaoh arises, hearing the loud crying of his people, servants. He must have discovered that his firstborn had been killed, too. He immediately summoned Moses and Aaron, and they came to Pharoah during the night. Pharaoh commands Moses and Aaron to leave immediately with the Israelites and livestock

Thank God, today was a lovely day.

In this chapter of Exodus, God speaks to Moses, telling him that He will send one more plague upon Egypt, the plague of death. Every firstborn child and animal of the Egyptians will die. God does not say that Pharaoh heart will be further hardened. No, God says that Pharaoh will, indeed, release the Israelites to leave Egypt.

God instructs Moses to tell the Israelites to ask their Egyptian neighbors to give them gold and silver articles. God gave the Israelites favor in the eyes of the Egyptians. The Egyptians probably finally realized that Israel's God had brought on all of these terrible plagues, so to appease the Israelites and their God, the Egyptians were willing to part with whatever the Israelites asked of them. I think the term favor here indicates respect and fear rather than congeniality. The Egyptians also held up Moses as one with great authority, perhaps rivaling even the Pharaoh. The people wanted to please Moses even if Pharaoh did not.

Next, Moses addresses the Israelites, telling them that the plague of death will come that night at midnight, but the Israelites will be saved from death. God was going to draw a clear line in the sand between the Egyptians and Israelites, punishing one and blessing the other.

As a result of all of these plagues, but especially the plague of death, the Egyptians will bow down on their knees will beg Moses to take the Israelites out of Egypt. Thus, God sets the stage of the Egyptians being convinced that the Israelites must be forced to leave Egypt and the Israelites being convinced that God has a better life for them than in Egypt. The Israelites now knew by the wonders done by God through Moses, that their God was with them, for them, and mighty to bring them out of slavery back into the land promised to their forefathers. It was probably likely that the Israelites had forgotten God through the years of slavery or given up on Him being able to deliver them. they needed convincing.

Whether or not a person acknowledges it, Enoch and Noah are fathers to every man, woman and child living today. However, without saving faith they will only be fathers according to the flesh to our generation. That genetic relationship will be undeniably proven before God, but it will not only profit us nothing, it will actually make anyone in our generation more guilty than the people in theirs if they mock or ignore the testimony concerning them in these last days without repenting and believing in Jesus Christ as they did. We need to carefully consider and draw both encouragement and warning from their examples of faith if we want to share any of the benefits of the heritage they have left us.

Jesus Christ is the one who will catch us up to be with Him, like He did Enoch, if we are confirmed by the Holy Spirit to be those who please Him and His Father. He is also the unexpected Bridegroom who will close the wedding feast door that lets in the prepared wise virgins but shuts out the unprepared foolish virgins where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth, like He closed the door of the Ark that Noah prepared behind him and his household, shutting out those who were unprepared outside.

Although no one should count on it, if in His grace the Father continues to patiently wait beyond our short lives to send Christ with His holy angels for the final harvest, we still must hold to the fear of the LORD we see in these two ancestors of ours and uphold their testimony so that we may be partakers with them in the pleasure the Father has in their faith and the faith of all those mentioned in this chapter of Hebrews. That is one of the ways we will be able to add our own testimony of faith to theirs.

I believe the Lord hardened Pharoahs heart bringing out what was in him. In Acts 7:18. Stephen states "Till ANOTHER king arose, which knew not Joseph." I've heard the word another being used here suggests a different type in the Greek. There is 2 words used for "another" in the Greek. One is when you want another of the same and the other is one of a different kind. the second is used here. This Pharoah might have been an Assyrian.

Isaiah 52:4. For thus saith the Lord GOD, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the ASSYRIAN oppressed them without cause.

God Magnified his Great name YHWH in Egypt and all the World feard the God of Israel as he will do again in the latter days.

Ezekiel 38:22-23. And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.

It seems coincidental or strategic how the second in order ( going against the norm.) would be what seems to be where the blessings are.

Start with the first Adam and second Adam. The births throughout the patriots. Ishmael and Issac. Jacob and Essau. Ephraim and Manasseh. we have the 2 covenants, and the flesh and the spirit.

Pt. 1

What I think is being missed in Galatians 3:29. Is that it actually says the opposite of the way you take it.

It says "you are Abraham's seed, and heirs, ""ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE"". Not law!! and not nationality.

The Promise spoken of here, "the covenant of God in Christ" was given to Abraham 430 years before the Law. Galatians 3:17. and before Israel was a nation.

So Galatians. 3:29. Is not saying you are Israelites it's saying you are children of Promise as we see in Galatians 4:28. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

I think the confusion is when often you call members of the church Israelites citing Galatians 3:29. and

Romans 2:29.

But you must consider

Galatians 3:28. "THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS."

So when you revisit Romans 9 and take on Romans 9:6-8. "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: "but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."

This is not making a distinction between Ishmael and Issac.

It's a distinction between

1) National Israel "The broken off branch who were blinded and who you are attempting to be grafted into " and 2) Messianic Israel who's joint members of the Church and children of the promise.

Have you noticed they all weren't broken off?

Romans 11:17. AND "IF SOME" OF THE BRANCHES BE BROKEN OFF, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Hello Wilma. I hope you can get other people's thoughts to your questions, as yours appears very personal, being subject to the Lord's leading & help to the spouses. In other words, there are many considerations as to the types of differences in their beliefs, the personalities of both spouses, their commitment to Christ & to the marriage, etc. What we must accept, is that marriage in God's Eyes is a most important union & commitment, & everything possible should be done to maintain that, in love & faithfulness. And if perchance, the doctrinal differences are too marked, some other options have to be considered.

From what you've written & assuming that the husband is of Christian belief & character & not of cultish persuasion, then I feel that the first & best act to undertake is to discuss the matter fully & be prepared for compromises. There's an old adage in our circles: "major on the majors & minor on the minors"; which means, focus of those issues of belief & Christian behaviour that are essential to faith & living and not on the issues that ought to make very little difference to the sanctity of marriage & belief. Since you've not given an example of the problems, if I might suggest an example of one spouse wanting to attend a pentecostal fellowship while the other attends one that does not teach or encourage that type of worship, manifestations, or teachings. How should this matter be resolved? Should they continue to be separate from each other each Lord's Day & even entertain arguments during the week?

Each couple must come to their own decision in such a matter. Attending each other's fellowships alternately can be an option, as each one looks to the spiritual value that comes from both meetings. Or, attending the out-of-Church activities of one Fellowship, while still attending another Fellowship together regularly, is another option. And, I don't believe that God would call one to serve away, thereby affecting the marriage; service is a joint effort.

My I suggested reflecting on Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalms 51:10 and Psalms 119:71.

Please God give Valerie the spiritual clarity she seeks and I ask Holy Spirit enrich her with your spiritual gifts that she will come to have a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and be a living testimony for Your glory I ask in Christ Jesus

In the the Bible the end times are riddled with bloody violence. It beats out the bloodletting of the OT by an ounce.

Jacob (Israel) now repeats the blessing as his father did. This time; as with him he was to bless the younger son over the older; going against tradition. He appeared to be aware despite bad vision. Unlike with his father and Rebekkah in his blessing, however his son Joseph told him he was in error to his face. His son tried to change it to be enacted for Manasseh but his father refused. This going against tradition happens once again when the Lord judges not to human appearance with David over all of his older brothers to be anointed to be king.

It is also interesting that this whole possession of the land and flocks and possessions of Israel would eventually lead them to forced servitude and bondage owning nothing for themselves. In short; they sort of set themselves up for what eventually went down hundreds of years later. This of course was all prophesied earlier to Abraham.

The fact that Jacob in the previous chapter mentions to Pharoah that his days were shorter despite being well over 100 than the other patriarchs; there is once again validity to the much advanced age of death going back closer to the time of Noah; who produced all living since the flood; and of course the same pattern holds true back to Adam.

It appears that Jacob's agreement with Laban not to marry anyone else also held true. The fact that he went back to the place where he first trusted in God and put an altar there and his whole life shows great faith and God's chastisement to teach him lessons. Despite his son Joseph's seemingly boastful dreams the father kept it to heart. Truly father and son were greatly blessed; despite what the enemy surely tried to mean for good-the blessing of the Lord prevailed to accomplish His purposes. Opposition would later allow Moses to trust God for Israel's great deliverance from Egypt and Pharaoh and to finally conquer the Promised Land (at least in part).

Hello Keron. The Bible tells us that "the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch" ( Acts 11:26). I think that the word 'disciples' probably refers to all those who subscribed to the teachings of Jesus & followed Him & not just the twelve. And that is essentially what 'Christian' means: a Christ follower. At that time, it was used more as a derogatory word & probably spoken with disdain against those 'sectarians' who turned their backs to Judaism, embracing this Person called 'the Christ'.

Other terms were also applied to these new 'sectarians', such as Nazarenes & those of The Way. Probably taken from the One they considered their Teacher/Rabbi, of his origin & proclamation ( Matthew 2:23; John 14:6).

And then we see that the word 'Christian' came more into vogue, as King Agrippa himself used the word ( Acts 26:28) & Peter referring to those who suffer as a Christian, as opposed to those suffering for any wrongdoing or even a false accusation, whether Christian or not ( 1 Peter 4:16).
