You should get a KJV Reference Study Bible. I prefer one with CENTER OF EACH PAGE reference columns.

You can get one on ABE BOOKS dot com

    very reasonable

*Just pick a United States seller. Hard cover books will tear up faster. Vinyl lasts a long time; they're flexible.

Look at the picyure to see if the references are center page OR bordering on the bottom of the page.

There's a lot of refereeing Psalm 83. Indicate what verses you are looking at.

(to Jack G) When considering the character or attributes of God, it is so easy to focus on one thing like love, and wonder why there seems to be a conflct in His nature. How can finite minds understand an Infinite mind? All we as humans see about us is frail, fickle, finite and fallible humans - even the very best of mankind is still subject to those 4 things.

But God is not so as man is.

As regards God being a "loving God", what do you define love to be? Are you using your standard of love to define God's love?

The only way that we can begin to understand the character of God is by submitting to Him and His will. We need to get to know Him through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ and to have that 'born again' experience Jesus spoke about in John 3.

When endeavouring to understand about God's love, we must consider the length the Father went to prove that love through sending His Son to humanity and all that Jesus submitted to for the sake of His Father's will for us.

His love cannot be separated from His justice, or His holiness, or His wrath, or His impartiality, and so on. All of the characteristics and qualities and attributes of God are entwined and cannot be separated as a man separates an egg or dissects all the parts of a cabbage.

He creates physical realities as an expression of His wisdom, and righteousness, and Sovereign power. Some Jewish sages see the Name of God as an attribvute of His Justice - as the Ruler, the Lawgiver, the Judge. As I think about the specfic details mentioned in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis, those things do fit very much under those headings. God did not at first reveal Himself as the God who loves - though we know that His motiovation was His love - even as it says in 1 Corinthians - If I have not love, then I have become a troublesome disscordant noise (paraphrase); or in 1 Cor 16:14 - Do all things in love. This is how God works as our Father. Always has and always will.

Dear Christie Taylor we are going to pray for you. And the evil powers that are after you can also be proof that you are on the right path. :) This may not help you right now, but look, good news is on the way. :) And they will help! Scripture is Living.

    John 4:24

God is a Spirit: And they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

And it's a little easier for us, who dont have much, because we have less responsibility and less to think about. This is exactly how Jesus wants us to be. Look for ways to become even more free from earthly obligations. Be totally dependent on Him. For He can work in that which is nothing. But never forget what Jesus says.

    Luke 6:24-25.

    James 5:1 and much more.

The words of God's will set you free, these are some example of words you should say to the powers. And not just these. For there is one in whom all powers are afraid, and that is Jesus Christ. His Name is Holy and Reigns Supreme. Use the powerful words and allthe promises, you know when you have found out what spirit they are of, speak directly to them in faith. That they be bound in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ, Above all other Names. We will not allow ourselves to be followed in all tidal waves or be beaten down by demons.

Fill yourself with the words of victory as in the Psalms of David and see also the book of Hebrews and Romans. For your own sake and gain assurance of salvation.

And dont forget too put on the Armor Of God Everyday, this is extremly important. Ephesians Chapter 6.

God bless u in His Holy Name Jesus Christ. Amen

    Chris,

It appears we are sharing without even communicating by message. I was going to mention the same of the texts of Matthew. Mark. Luke and John. However. I didn't want to take you off the subject matter. Now that you did. The writings of the four books have been found by Archeological research to have been written by anonymous writers decades later after their name sakes deaths. I understand the translations may read otherwise. Yes, the writings have substance. Some stories are consistant. There are statements that have been disproven. IE: The birthplace of Jesus Christ. There are 3 contenders for the birthplace. Bethlehem 1, the Church of the Nativity, Now in the Palestinian controlled West Bank.

Bethlehem 2, on Galilee, near Nazareth.

The 3rd place is in Nazareth itself , an Archeologist with the Orthodox Church stating the story of traveling to Bethlehem was merely a story for the early church to fullfill a Jewish Prophecy and history to associate Jesus to the House of David since King David was from Bethlehem.

The thing that bothers me about taking Translations so literally. Many Christians are imposing their wills on people that don't realize they are being told we are choosing for you.

Much would be learned by studying other Scriptures that are not part of of the "Standard" Bible. The Gospels of Thomas, Judas, and Mary. More Hebrew Scriptures have been found as well.

As you stated earlier, not all look at the scriptures as giving joy and hope. When they are used by some for the wrong purposes. Sometimes I have found more comfort in the Quran. Many people that leave the church leave because of another Christian.

A Woman of Great Faith in God that i most admired and loved said to me " The COC has plenty of Preachers, what we need are good Ministers. We need to be Ministered to not preached at." When we are ministered to it gives to conversation about faith. And isn't that what God is all about. What you believe. Faith.

I am a simple person who lives in poverty.I have had bad luck with getting low income housing people sent supposed letter s to my old address es , which I don't understand because I have several times update d my information. But I feel constantly under attack by people, some of which have power or can influence seats of power. It is so hard for me spiritually .I am not perfect but I am truly trying to live the kind of life I believe that God wants me to live.I am kind of a loner.I have had my identity stolen have been tazered by law enforcement for just walking around nine pm with some of my belongings.Having the right to prove my innocence take n n tricked.Luckily because they had no real proof of the first charge they dismissed but I was humiliated and it was physically hard on my body.My son is actually in law enforcement but he's just living paycheck to paycheck. For me it is not just the poverty but the spiritual attack on me that is very hard.I am trying to remain hopeful. Can you please pray for me.Thank you.

The Bible doesn't say that. It says : Genesis 9,

Genesis 9:18, Genesis 9:21-22, he didn't cover his father, yet went & told his brothers, notice they were all adults with wives, (not children) Genesis 7:7, I've heard some Pastors explain it was perversion. Also disrespectful, dishonoring his father & taking advantage of a bad situation. His brothers showed honor & respect: Genesis 9:23, Please read: Genesis 6:8-13, Notice Noah was Just & found favor with GOD, in a corrupt violent time. Doesn't say & his children were also "perfect or Just" Genesis 6:22, Genesis 7:1, Genesis 10, the lineage of Noah, Shem, Ham, & Japheth. Notice also in the curse he cursed "canaan" please see Genesis 10:18-19, they were the people of Sodom & Gomorrah. Was this perversion carried down? Even from before flood? Genesis 8:21,

    Genesis 13:13, Genesis 18:16-, Genesis 19, Zephaniah 2:9, 2 Peter 2:5-9, Isaiah 3:9,

Please rely on the WORD of GOD, if you study & read it thoroughly, you'll be surprised what it clarifies.

Hopefully this is helpful in answering your questions.

Hi Charles. I'm glad your question asked this of a "true believer". Unfortunately, there are many 'believers', some just with head knowledge of the Lord & His Salvation, and others, coming to Jesus not recognizing the gravity of their sins & coming judgement, but superficially enjoying 'Church' & the fellowship of others - many even baptized & partaking of the Lord's Table. The Spirit might yet be drawing them into a state of true understanding, sorrow & repentance leading to salvation, but I believe that anyone who hasn't been fully possessed by the Holy Spirit, given power to love, live & witness His Name, may well "draw back", because of love for the world or fear of man rather than God.

I'm always reminded of Stephen's witness (in Acts 6:8-15 & Acts 7:1-60) as a worthy example. Stephen preached the Word with boldness knowing the volatile reaction of both the Jews & their Council. And even when dragged away to be stoned, Stephen had every opportunity to recant his faith or at least retract his accusatory message against them - but he remained faithful to the Lord. And notice the special enabling by the Spirit upon Him in Acts 7:55-60, giving him a special revelation of Heaven's Glory, hence the certainty of his death. All he saw from that time on was the Triune God & his own soon departure to that blessed place. The anger, the jeers & stones of death that pummeled him were no match to what God had prepared for him.

How would we respond if facing a similar situation? How many 'Christians' would do whatever they could to save their lives rather than lose it for Christ's sake? For most of us, we've never had to face such a threat, but for many all over the world, they would rather remain faithful to the Lord Who bought them than deny Him. This gives us a glimpse of a "true believer": one in whom the Spirit dwells & will stand faithful by the Spirit's enabling in the hour of temptation. "Not many who say Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven".

Hi Cassandra. Yes, they most certainly do, if they have recognized Jesus as their Messiah, turned to Him in faith, confessing their sins & being born again of His Spirit. When once they had trusted in keeping the Laws & their special heritage from God to be eternally secure, if they now realize that obedience to the Law, which only brings death, is of absolutely no worth when compared to the obedience to Christ & His Spirit Who gives eternal life, then they like all others who confess Jesus will go to be with the Lord (see Romans 7:9,10; Romans 2:28,29; 2 Corinthians 3:6-8; Romans 8:8-10).

Jews who have recognized Jesus as the true Messiah, often refer to themselves as Messianic Jews: acknowledging that their longed for Messiah has indeed come & first brought salvation & new birth within the sinner (both Jew & Gentile), & then will one day come in Glory to bring salvation from their enemies & a new government raised & governed in righteousness.

Faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ is the story of a life time! Not only yours but Christ's life! When you read the stories of the disciple's, the stories of healing, raising the dead, you will also see and hear that "some doubted". Doubting is the opposite of faith. It is that thing that will prevent you from growing in the faith. One of the major misconceptions is that once we are saved, the love of God will just come naturally! Instead what will happen is that you will see yourself in a different light. The light of the Savior, when He forgives you unendingly. We cannot do the will of God, nor keep the laws of God! When we come to this realization, we come to the soul reason why Jesus came. One thing is absolute!

FAITH IS THE KEY! It may come and it will try and leave you, but you must have faith!

Faith in the resurrection and life of Jesus Christ. This means reading His words everyday. Stay away from the book writers who say they have a better way. Reading GODS word is all you will need to see again, hear again, walk again , live again , in and through the forgiveness of sin , found only in the shed blood of Jesus Christ! May God bless you in YOUR walk with Jesus. God created you for just this reason, a witness unto the truth! Repent and be baptized

  • Solomon and Adonijah Struggle for the throne - In Reply - 3 years ago
Abishag's story continues after David's death. David's son Solomon had been chosen to take the throne, but another of David's sons, Adonijah, styled himself as king instead ( 1 Kings 1:5). He was older than Solomon and had plenty of followers, so Adonijah posed a real threat to Solomon's succession. Even as Adonijah was celebrating his coronation as king, David had Solomon anointed king at Bathsheba's and Nathan's (David's prophet) request. Hearing the news of his brother's installation as king, Adonijah was afraid and appealed to Solomon that he be allowed to live in spite of his designs on the throne. Solomon granted him mercy ( 1 Kings 1:5-53). Unfortunately, Adonijah did not stop scheming for long, and he had his eye on Abishag.

When David passed away and Solomon began his rule, Adonijah approached Bathsheba and requested that she go before King Solomon and ask him to give him Abishag as a wife ( 1 Kings 2:13-17). She relayed the request, but Solomon saw through Adonijah's plot. To marry a former king's wife was to lay claim to the throne, and, since Abishag was considered one of David's concubines (even though they had never been intimate), Adonijah's request to marry her was full of intrigue. In short, Adonijah was renewing his bid for Solomon's throne. This was the last straw, and Solomon ordered that Adonijah be executed immediately (verses 19-25).

Just Google: Solomon and Adonijah. Choose the "Got Questions" link

I knew there was a struggle for the Throne. I just didn't remember it was one of Solomons sons.
