Gigi One question what was Jesus Christ religion and no that's not a trick question, not asking you anything I

haven't thought about honestly and its not a mental debate.
  • Rick Mentzer - In Reply - 4 years ago
Gigi This is by no means a debate on my part I have read in great detail on that period of constantine's

rulership and his main goal was to unite the kingdom to one belief system and in that time frame a number of

pagan practices were combined with church doctrine at that time. Still in that time in history not all church leaders

wanted what was voted on as doctrinal policy. There's more to the background but I'm moving on to more profitable

areas. Onward to the bema. A lot of Roman Catholic roots were just beginning.

I guess I do not agree with how you defined things here.

I think Christianity is the one true religion and all others are false religions.

But I understand your sentiment. I just don't have any angst over the word.

    Hi Rick

Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is the first reference of the Lord Jesus Christ. Death has been a sentence give to her and Adam. The promises seed will reverse that.

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

What animal died so that they could be covered. Lamb? Slain from the foundation of the earth.

Abram later called Abraham was promised a seed through Sarah. That seed is Christ. See Matt 1:1

Take a look and see what you think. There is a theme through the scriptures.

    Follow that seed.

    Thanks

I understand what you and Rick are saying.

However, if I met someone and they asked

Me what my religion was, I would say Christian , as many Chrisyians would.

I do not wish to argue the semantics or mental gymnastics of this concept. For me, the Christisn faith s the one and only true religion.

I do not think that religion is a dirty word nor a negative

concept. It is a Neural word that describes spiritual belief.

    Sorry for the typos

I meant to say that the apostles went to the synogogue on Saturdays in an effort to reach the Jews with the gospel.

So (haha) dismiss the sushi and voted reference in my post and insert the above sentence . Funny how the phone tries to think for us.
  • Gigi - In Reply - 4 years ago
By the time of Constantine, Sunday worship for Christians had already been the normal practice in the church since apostolic times. The apostles still attends sushi fur services in the Sabbath, as they were Jews and ends voted to reach their Jewish brethren with he gospel. But Christian worship services were held on Sunday's and in some places , daily. Therefore, the apostles would have attended synagogue on Saturday and Christian worship services at least on Sundays

Gentile believers would have attended worship services on Sunday's for the mat part.

Constantine and the church council did not change anything that was not already being practiced in the church at the time.

Also, Constantine's "vision" was associated with hm conquering in the name of Christ. It had nothing to do with with this meeting with church leaders.

    Valerie

    That is a good question.

These text you reference gives an answer:

...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind , that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

If you go on to read the remainder of the chapter, Paul gives us examples of what we ought to think and do that is according to God's will.

So, for me, I would endeavor to follow those instructions along with those in the remaining chapters of Romans.

In Galatians 5:16-26,Paul talks about what walking in the Spirit means. Philippians 4:8 tells us what things our mind should focus on.

But really, Valerie, no one can have the mind of Christ without being converted and having the Holy Spirit dwelling within the believer. So, believing the gospel, repenting of one's sinfulness, putting one's faith in Jesus and His work if salvation for us are necessary as a first thing.

When one is thus converted, God'd Spirit in dwells a new believer, as this Spirit really does the work of conversion and we respond to this work in faith supplied by grace through the Spirit.

After conversion, one will begin to grow in one's faith as the Spirit guides and causes growth and spiritual knowledge to come to a new believer. This growth happens continually throughout the believers life as one yields to the work of the Spirit within.

So, Valerie the more we yield to the Spirit, he will conform us to imitate Christ through the intake of His holy word enlivened in us by the Spirit.

Separating our affection from the things of the world happens but by bit, as we relinquish our love for worldly ideas, things, and practices and replace these with godliness that grace supplies.

    Hope this helps.

You will probably get many good replies, as Rick already has done. Prayerfully seek

What the Lord would have. You do In response to the Scriptures offered here.

    Hello,

"the quick & the dead" quoted in Movie Tombstone, Wyatt Earp. That gave me chills. Read it like yesterday again in 2 Timothy 4:1, still don't fully know what that means.

Hey btw. You'll be happy to know there's a recent documentary about Billy Grahm & Johnny Cash, he was a Christian & his biggest regret was that he didn't make more songs about Christ. Possibly his last song/video that was a reflection of that.

U2 main singer has been called a Christian in the past.

A band named Avenged Seven Fold,

Song that says "there is no rest for the wicked"

I noticed the most about scriptural sayings being all throughout society, when I first started reading scripture. It was really surprising to me.

    Hi Donna

I would read it for what it says.

    God gave his son.

Maybe we need to rethink our understanding of Jesus and God.

    John 3:17

Remember all scripture is given by inspiration of God.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    Hi Free

one comment. Point 7 taken from 1 John 5:7

1Jn 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

This verse is not in newer translations. You need to ask yourself why?

    Thanks

Becki, hi again. I was very surprised when I saw the 1611 King James Version Bible. I read the information about it on this site. Even researching online my results found these "new" "Books" of the HOLY Bible were actually taken out when printed in USA to save costs. Yes it's alarming because we're not suppose to add or take away. Deuteronomy 12:32, Rev. 22:18,19, if you click the 1611 tab it will take you to that translation. I have been studying that version myself recently.

    Hi Adam

You said that John 1:1 says that Jesus is God. Jesus name is not mentioned in that verse at all. In fact nowhere in the bible does it say that Jesus is God. (Jesus will be exalted by God.) Many times does it say that he is the Son of God. The expression "God the Son" is not found in the scriptures. The "word was God" is correct but it does not say Jesus is God. The word was made flesh is talking about the Lord Jesus Christ manifesting his Father perfectly. He is a manifestation of his Father. If he were God why is he not called God the Son? The passages I showed you showed his reliance on his father.

You mentioned that I didn't comment on all your passages. I will try to do that. Gen 1:26 Nowhere is Jesus mentioned there. You are saying that's what it means. Gen 11:6-7 Again Jesus is not mentioned in this passage. John 10:30 Jesus and his Father are one. Not a problem. Jesus doesn't say that he is God, instead at John 10:34-36 when he is accused of making himself God verse 33 he tells them to read Psalm 82 where the rulers are called Gods by God. If he was actually God then why didn't he say so? John 8:19 God is his Father. I believe that. It does not say that Jesus is God. Phil 2:5-8

Again Jesus not called God. In fact he is called a man in verse 8. Verse 9 God highly exalts him. 2 Corinthians 5:19 God was in Christ. Of course he was. The Holy Spirit was given to Jesus without measure. Jesus not called God. Consider 1

Corinthians 15:27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

1Co 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

We are told here that even our Lord Jesus Christ will be subject unto God.

Deut 6:4 and Isaiah 44:6 They prove my point. God is one there is no other God.

    I'm out of space.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Rick,

I'd keep reading. Seek the truth and open yourself to learn who God really is and what He will reveal to you. Pray for wisdom and understanding. I wouldn't stop after one section and make conclusions before you take the entire context of the Bible into account. There are logical explanations for your questions.

For your food question if you continued reading you would have naturally found Acts 10. There is much more info in the New Testament about what law applies today, because there is moral law, civil law, and ceremonial law. The latter two were specific to Israelites. You would also read a verse like this: Matthew 5:17-20

Regarding your other questions you would eventually read verses like these:

    1 John 5:7-8

    John 1:1

    Genesis 1:26

    Genesis 11:6-7

    John 10:30

    John 8:19

    Philippians 2:5-8

    2 Corinthians 5:19

    John 1:3

    Matthew 28:19

    1 Peter 1:2

    2 Corinthians 13:14

    Deuteronomy 6:4

    John 14:10

    John 20:28

    1 John 2:22-24

    Isaiah 7:14

    Matthew 1:23-25

    Hebrews 1:8

    Isaiah 44:6

    John 1:18

Some OT prophesy of Jesus to come:

    Isaiah 7:14

    Psalms 72:9-10

    Micah 5:2

    Numbers 24:17

    Genesis 22:18

    God bless...

    Hi Becki

Yes if anyone posts a question, comment, or prayer request and does

Not get a response when one is desired, I do suggest that someone repost and say like you did, "I was hoping for a response to such and such, do I am reposting to receive one, knowing that some do get overlooked."

    That way

Others will know that a person is really desiring a response and some prayer request are urgent, timewise.

    God bless and good day.

    Adam

In researching, o have found that the past few hundred years has produced a large number of sects within sects, do yo speak as new denominations splinter further and further into independent churches. I believe that many of these continue to wander further and further from the tenets of the church established b the apostles and preserve through the centuries. The doctrines of Jesus have suffered greatly as many espouse that he was just human, not God, though perfect. Or that he was human but became A God by being perfect in this life. Or that h came into being at his conception instead of being eternally existent with the Father. Or that he shed his humanity when he ascended to heaven, returning upbringing only the Son of God, a Spirit only, and no longer the Sin of Man, too.

All of these beliefs have been repeatedly refuted by the church from the first centuries on and determined to be heresy. But unfortunately, many people in this age do

Not have a historical foundation to set their beliefs upon. They just believe what their pastor, friends, church, teach or what they themselves have deduced from their reading if Scripture. That is a danger of having self be the sole determiner of scriptural interpretation.

I think many people are deceived by these false teachings , but they are not purposely being so. They have unfortunately listened to errant preachers and teachers. Yet, even so, their minds are often closed to considering any correction from others outside their sphere of influence even when shown by Scripture as you and others have done here.

So, when I read posts that espouse errant views, I do

Pray for these people along with speaking and supporting othodox views that have stood the test of Scriptute and time.

Valerie First to get to renewed mind a person must be born again I.E. confess Romans 10:9+10 and believe and

start changing your thoughts and habits to what Gods word says which is walking by the revealed knowledge of Gods

Word. This is not sense knowledge thinking, sense knowledge thinking is based on sight, sound smell, touch, and taste.

After born again new input holy spirit which requires putting on Gods thoughts on who we are in Christ and

believing that in our day by day habit patterns or conscience thinking with consistence. Romans 12:2 By doing this

we prove by believing in what God has done what is His good acceptable and perfect will. You cannot do this with

sense knowledge thinking 1 Corinthians 2:14 because you cannot know God with experienced knowledge without Him

revealing Himself by the holy spirit. Then our job Ephesians 4:24-32, Ephesians 5 whole Chapter, Phil. 2:1-15 this is

some things of how to think, also the gospels is loaded with principles. Mathew Chapt.5,6,7, also John 14,15,16,17

those of us who were going to believe what shall be. This is litterally the tip of the ice berg.
