My dad died 32 years ago when I was 32. He had two back to back heart attacks within hours of each other and was gone quickly. Today, I was visiting my 88 year old Mom and she mentioned to me how she had talked with someone who was our neighbor for many years. Her husband is in a wheelchair now, having had several strokes. She is caregiving for him. so my mom mentioned, that it was a blessing that my dad died as e did, because she thinks it would be so hard for her to do caregiving for him now. So that was good to hear her say that. I miss my dad, but I know he had the beginnings of emphysema and is later years would have been miserable for him. God was merciful to him.

Before Jesus was born, God existed eternally as three Persons in One Being (the Godhead). When the appointed time on earth came, God the Father sent His Son to earth to redeem us by taking on human flesh but still retaining His divinity in this new person, Jesus. So, Jesus is the eternal Son of God made flesh for our salvation. The humanity of Jesus had a beginning at His miraculous conception, but the Son of God lived forever prior to becoming Jesus. It is more theologically correct to say: that Jesus is God and man in one Person; that the Son of God is eternally God, The Father is eternally God, and the Holy Spirit is eternally God. Together, these three persons are God together in One Being. Hope this helps.

Donna, God never changes. None of His Persons can end or stop "being". In the Trinity, all three Persons have always existed together and will always exist together in perfect unity, harmony, and will, but still be distinct from one another in what is called the "Godhead" or whole being of God. They love each other and have perfect communion and a relationship with one another. God is not made of parts, however. He cannot be divided or pulled apart. That is why Jesus said, "If you have seen me you have seen the Father" (who is pure Spirit). Or "I and the Father are One." (a perfect union). In heaven, we will experience the Father (who is Spirit), the Son (who is Spirit), and the Holy Spirit (who is Spirit) in the person of Jesus Christ, who is fully God Spirit and fully man united in one person forever. The concept of the Trinity is pretty mindboggling. But as Adam stated, we are not to fully understand the Triune God, we are to believe in Him and what Scripture says of Him." We will be satisfied in Him without knowing all there is to know about Him because we are finite and He is infinite. Even in eternity we will have finiteness and therefore limits on all of our capacities that help us comprehend God but not fully know Him. He fully knows us, and we will know what is needed to know about Him. He is awesome and wonderful!

Donna, You are correct to feel concerned about the "Oneness" teaching you are encountering in this church fellowship you are attending. This "oneness" doctrine is false teaching. It as cropped up within the church many times over the centuries and the church has refuted it thoroughly every time and determined it to be heresy, Today we are in a time or "anything goes" within the church and "don't make anyone feel bad by 'judging' their views. But this type of climate breeds false and spiritually dangerous doctrines. My suggestion is to leave this "oneness" church and pray for God to lead you to a true trinitarian fellowship.

Oh and I forgot, Those "eagles" stopped the car 3 feet from a phone pole that they would have struck head-on if God had not stood in from of the pole and put His invisible "hand" out to stop the car. (or His angels). whatever God did, it saved my friends lives last Sunday. They are strong believers and are ready to meet Jesus, but I am thankful they escaped harm and I get more time with them. We have stuck by each other through thick and thin and their companionship is very valued. We are blessed!

Your quotations from Acts chapter 11 does not support your interpretation in any way. Peter was recalling the words of contrasting the baptism of John and that of Jesus, (who baptized in water across the Jordan after John baptized Jesus). Jesus always baptized with water and the Holy Spirit.

Alex, I don't mind that you post your ideas on here. It gives me and others an opportunity to contrast your erroneous teachings with correct orthodox teaching and interpretations that do not butcher the Scripture text as you do. I know this sounds harsh, but I must say this for the sake of correctly showing forth the truth of God's word.

But Peter heard God say "what God have cleansed you must not call common (unclean and unworthy of God's attention).

And in this vision God was preparing Him to step into the fulfillment of this prophecy in his soon to be encounter with the household of Cornelius. He admits his understanding of the prophetic word by what he said in verse 28: "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to onw of another nation. But God has shown me that I should" not call any man common or unclean. Peter then listened as Cornelius encountered the wonderful way God worked in his life over the past few weeks. Peter then affirms the prophecy by speaking by the Holy Spirit beginning in verse 34. He said, "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.: and then proceeds to preach the gospel to Cornelius's household.

While Peter was still speaking the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those who were circumcised (Jews) with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

Then Peter said in verse 47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who aver received the Holy Spirit, just as we have?" So Peter and the Jewish believers with him baptized Cornelius and all his household.

This is the a truthful interpretation of this chapter, Alex. It doesn't need to have the added ideas you tried to insert into it to fit your narrative. Also, it does say that Peter commanded them (by the Holy Spirit) to be baptize the new Gentile believers in water at this time, not what you stated. Nor did the chapter state that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was a "baptism". Nor did Peter imply that the outpouring was not an action of grace (cleansing) . Peter did not think or say anything to signify that He thought he did wrong by having the Gentile believers baptized in water. .......

Could you expand on that aspect? What is the difference between me dying now & returning to dust or ashes and the wicked also likewise destroyed in death? If their bodies, like mine return to ashes, where is their judgement? If their spirits & souls also become ashes (which I can't fathom how that can happen), where is the judgement & punishment?

If you mean that they will never enjoy eternal life with God, as far as I know, most sinners would be quite happy to be exterminated just so that they can enjoy their days on Earth as they wish, fulfilling their every lust. Surely, the Gospel given, brings a greater weight & conviction than just a future annihilation?

Finally, what should we do with the Scripture ( Mark 9:44,46) where Jesus warns that the wicked's worm (flesh) never dies (or, consumes away) in hell's fire? And Revelation 20:11-15.

Alex, I just re-read Acts chapter 10. I don't know where you get your thinking from, but I doubt it is from the Spirit of Jesus in this matter. You have added and interjected Your ideas into the Scripture account in an incoherent way, again

God was not rebuking Peter in this account in any way. God gave Peter this vision for several reasons. First, God wanted to re-order Peter's thinking from a mind shaped by Jewish tradition, to one that is shaped by the Spirit. Secondly, God wanted to give a prophecy to the church through this vision-that salvation is for both Jews and Gentiles. And thirdly, God wanted to prepare Peter to step forward in this prophecy that very day with the household of Cornelius, a Gentile who had already been made clean by the Spirit of God.

In this vision God was permitting Peter to let go of the lifelong deeply held traditions of his Jewish heritage and see the world through God's eyes in this age of the Messiah, who had now come, finally. And God demonstrated tis release from these traditions with showing Peter foods that are unclean according to Jewish dietary laws, of which Peter had never once eaten. God said to Peter, "Take and eat." God was challenging Peter to obey God over what he thought was right before God. God was also showing Peter that He was able to make and declare clean whatever He willed to make to be clean-not man's determination. Implying to Peter that it was not a sin for him to now eat of such foods that God had determined unclean in the time before the Messiah's coming.

In the vision, God was telling forth a prophecy that God was going to be the God of all wo believe in Jesus, not just the Jews. This was radical thinking for a Jew. They believed that since they were chosen by God, that their "race" was superior to all others and that Gentiles were not as human as they were. They thought that Gentiles were "unclean" and not to be interacted with, especially in terms of fellowship or sharing in faith in the true God..

I understand Spencer, I like to type out a prayer on the post to encourage someone so they will know that their request met someone else's eyes and was prayed for and for me, to keep me honest and sincere about praying for someone. I went back tonight and went through the first 3 or 4 pages to check to see if there we any prayer request unaddressed in words in a post. If anyone wishes to go to pages 4-10 and begin to pick up older requests, please do!

Hi Donna. Just further to the other good comments. I've always found it easiest to understand the Trinity by looking at the trinity of mankind. Even though this analogy falls way short of an adequate interpretation, it does help - and no doubt you've heard it before.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Paul speaks of the whole person when he prays for them: spirit, soul & body (man's trinity). If we look at that more deeply, we see that we cannot exist as God intended if one aspect of our trinity is missing or absent. What would you be like without a body but only a soul & spirit? Or being a spirit without body & soul? We would be deficient, or could say, incomplete as people.

Likewise, God Who is One God, exists with three aspects (or, persons) in His Being. Maybe, that's one way that He created man in His Image. God wouldn't be Who He is without His Word (now made flesh in Jesus) & His Spirit. But God in His great Wisdom & Power, which we don't possess, is able to send out Jesus & His Spirit to accomplish His Will in the heavenlies & Earth. Jesus, God's Word, is involved in all creation, Who proceeded from God to instigate the re-creating of sinful man. The Holy Spirit of God, has always been sent out to empower people, to empower God's Word, & to infill special ones with God's Presence.

So God is still God but He chooses to effect His Will & Work in the worlds by His Own Actions - & this He does through His Word (Jesus) & His Spirit. We can't ever do that type of work from our being, but we can allow Him to affect our lives fully: body, soul, & spirit, so that we might be acceptable by Him & be used of Him as His witnesses in this world.

Lord, be near to the lonely and broken-Hearted, especially during this holiday season. The merriment of others can make these people extra sad, as they are reminded of the happy times they shared with loved ones over the years prior to this time of aloneness. Also, be wit those people wo feel alone, even when among people. Many of these people are depressed and stuck in a deep hole of sadness and grief. Raise them up, Lord, from this debilitating mental illness and restore to them a sound mind and cheerful Spirit. Guide people to interact with these people in the best way for the one who is alone or lonely and depressed and grieving. Give people the right words by your Spirit to sprout hope and a future for these people beyond tis present time. We ask all of this in your name, Jesus. Amen.
