We should be careful not to follow after traditions set up by men, but Study to understand. Colossians 2:8, Matthew 15:3, Mark 7:9

Why would Jesus rebuke them over tradition? Because even today it causes doubt, & confusion amongst the church.

Hopefully these scriptures are helpful. GOD's WORD is truth.

    Tradition is not 100% reliable.

Jesse To me whats remarkable about Paul before he became Paul in His heart he always wanted Gods

best and that is why Jesus Christ hand picked Him so to speak because He knew his heart was right just

he just needed a Holy Adjustment figuratively speaking.

Hello Gerard The study I've understood in the week he was crucified timeline, according to the Judean

calendar at that time Jesus Christ was crucified wednesday afternoon between 3pm and before sunset

wednesday so it didn't interrupt the Passover feast[Ironic because He was Gods Passover for mankind and

Saturday before sunset which would make for 72 hours, also according to the law again fulfilling all the

law He had to be legally declared dead 72 Hours. My understanding from scriptures in chronological order.

Chris Jesse and Gigi In regard to what you shared I know that Satan cannot create all he had to do was duplicate

and corrupt that which was already in existence, knowing that His target was Adam and Eve. At any rate

interesting input moving onward and upward.

    Hello Brother Spencer,

I'm not sure how this would tie in to the lesson you studied, but I'll share this with you. I'm looking at those Greek words both in Matthew and Luke. In Matthew 4:1, the word tempted is PEIRASTHENAI which means to be tried. In verse 7, the word tempt is EKPEIRASEIS which means to put on trial. What's interesting about Matthew Chapter 4 is that in James 1:13, it tells us first of all that God cannot be tempted, nor does He tempt anyone. You can't tempt Him and God Himself is not responsible for temptation.

As far as Jesus having to prove Himself, here is what I find interesting. In Matthew 4:3, it sounds like the tempter is asking Jesus to prove who He is. The tempter says "If thou be the Son of God, command these stones be made bread. That word "if" makes it sound like he's asking Jesus to prove who He is. That's what we get from the English text.

But here's why I love the Greek so much. The word "if" in the Greek text is what is called the first class condition assumed to be true. It can be translated "since." The devil, in tempting Jesus, was not tempting Him to prove that He was the Son of God. Satan is saying (since) you are the Son of God, then do this. Misuse your authority. Misuse your position. Be disobedient to your heavenly Father. But please note that Satan is not asking Jesus to prove Himself to be the Son of God, but actually questioning Him, baiting Him to disobey the commandments of God.

In Luke 14:19 the word prove is DOKIMASAI which means to test.

I'll share this with you, something I learned. A farmer in those days, if he had one pair of oxen, he would be considered fortunate. This is obviously a rich farmer. He just purchased five pairs of oxen. He's says, and I have to go and prove (DOKIMASAI/Test) them: so have me excused.

This is equivalent in our day to "I just bought a new car. I got to go test drive it and break it in, so have me excused."

Well, I'm off to bed. Hope to chat with you again soon. God Bless

Challenge: go on Google and type

Do all colors come from black?

Or the reverse: do all colors come from white ?

Comment= artists' know of these things. It takes skill to find the elements on earth (Creation) to produce colors for painting.

Do you ever stand in your closet and look at what colors your clothes are? Mine are black, gray, dark greens, purple, taupe. I don't care zip what analysts say either. :D

I leave you to ponder and ask God why humans are the colors that they are?

Get a large coffee, there's a hundred links on that Google query.

    Thanks Spencer,

I am enjoying studying Genesis once again. I am picking up so much more than I have in prior studies. But hey, God knew that would happen, right!

God's sovereignty is tied to His omniscience. He knows everything that anyone will think, say or do throughout time. He knows everything that will happen in the natural world. He knows everything that will happen in the spiritual world. So, nothing can take Him by surprise or out maneuver Him. His sovereignty is not challenged by the free agency He gave to spiritual and corporeal beings. He does not force anyone to do anything, like what the brothers did to Joseph. He already decided before time began to bring good out what was intended for evil for Joseph, just like He decided before time began to bring good out of the evil of sin, and the crucifixion of His Son. Only God is able to do this, because He alone is sovereign, omniscient, and good.

    Rick,

I have never considered your idea before. I know that in the New Jerusalem there is the Tree of Life, but the Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil is not mentioned to be there.

I think like Chris, that God created both trees because Satan is not able to created something living. He uses what God as made, said, or does to pervert it and reshape it into something wicked.

I believe that God knew all along what would happen in the Garden with Adam and Eve, the tree and Satan. I think He designed it all to happen as part of His plan to redeem creation from the wicked one. Satan thought he had won in the Garden, but he really didn't, because mankind's fall necessitated a Redeemer in order for God to prove to be the Victor over the evil Satan brought into creation.

We may never truly understand God's mind in this, because He absolutely does not tempt anyone, but He does know that if He gives a command, temptation to disobey will be right on the heels of the command. Who knows, maybe He had given Lucifer and the other angels a command, and Lucifer decided to disobey this one command. Then corruption followed, just like with man. The difference is that Lucifer was created immortal, man was not. The reason God did not want Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of life because He knew that should mankind become immortal e would send all of eternity becoming more and more corrupt and evil, just like Lucifer. God had a different plan and end for mankind and ensuring that man remained mortal was part of that for our sake and for His glory.

    Yes, Chris,

Each of us walk as Christ calls us to walk. We are individuals, and God is able to work individually in the billions of people in existence on earth today.

    2Corinthians:4:6-7

"For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."

May we let His light shine out of each of us so those in darkness can see the desirableness of Christ in us.

Sister GiGi, Brothers Chris and David,

I've read that Paul was a member of the Sanhedrin when persecution broke out against the early church, and one of the requirements for being in the Sanhedrin is that the person be married. GiGi, I also believe that either Paul's wife had either passed away or she divorced him because of his conversion. Whatever the case may be, we don't know. But he says I'm single, and I wished, not commanding, but I wished that everybody was as I myself.

Brothers Chris and David, you make some excellent points. Paul spoke about how a married man or married woman might be distracted because their focus would be on how they might please one another instead of on Christ. It seems as though this would be a natural thing for one who's married. So Paul may have experienced this both ways, being married, and then later on being single.

    Paul says in Acts 26:10 "Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison." He goes on to say that many of the saints that believed in Jesus of Nazareth, I shut them up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests;

And then it's interesting where he says that when they were put to death, "I gave my voice against them." This means that Paul was a member of the Sanhedrin. He voted for the death penalty against Christians. Only the Sanhedrin could cast a vote for the death penalty.

We know back in Acts Chapter 7, especially with Stephen, that Paul was there to oversee it. And what the witnesses would do, the witnesses had to do the stoning, but they would take their overcoats off and lay them at the feet of the man that is in charge of overseeing the execution, and so they laid them at the feet of a man named Saul.

And here he's telling them "I was active in shutting them up in prison having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I was voting, I gave my voice against them.

Brother Rick. Even after considering what you proffered, I still believe that God, Who created all things, living & non- living, placed both those trees in the garden. The very tenor of that Scripture ( Genesis 2:16,17), compels me to understand that God knew all about that tree, why it was placed there (was it for a test to mankind or have some other implication?), & it's possible future impact.

If Satan could even do something as creating an object from nothing, it seems that God was quite accepting of the tree's presence & His seemingly casual reference to it being there. I understand the question you posed but I still feel that it was something from God that Satan used to cause Adam & Eve to question God's Word & infinite Mercy. Had that tree not been there, or that A & E were not given instruction by God about it, Satan would have surely found another way to get them to doubt, disobey, or depart from their Creator. As brother Jesse shared in another thread, that Jesus Himself was tested by Satan on all points (i.e. the appeal to the flesh, to the eyes, or to one's pride/loftiness), & still Jesus refused to buy into Satan's useless tactics/tests - because the Word of God stands sure & our resilience & joy comes when Satan is rebuffed with the Word & flees. Maybe (& just a thought if there was no Tree), Satan could have convinced A & E to start hunting & killing animals for the sport of it - I would think that that would have come before God as sin - he would have got to us in some way or the other.

    Hi GiGi.

The Lord deliverance of Israel out of Egypt was well planned out and his glory was on display Exodus 14:4. and Romans 9:17.

And them entering Egypt was impressive as well with the Lord in total control of this from the selling of Joseph

( Genesis 50:20.) through out the blessings of Joseph. I like to view it as the Lords sovereign plan being exercised

( Genesis 15:13) rather than the brothers doing evil. God was in total control, and even over the famine.

Because all this contributed to the promise he made Abraham.

    Great read.

    God bless and Goodnight.

This chapter shows the fulfilment of the word of God that vengeance is His. David did not want His son to be killed but the wrath of God was on him as he rose against his father and disobeyed the Lord. it is also a lesson for us to take the word of God as it is, an never to choose fame and conspire against the anointed as God always fights their battles.

How could Jesus tell us to be perfect in Matthew when that's impossible. Why did Jesus say he came only for the lost sheep of Israel and call a Canaanite woman a dog? Why did Jesus tell us not to wash our hands before we eat? Did Jesus nullify many of the laws of Moses and if so I thought he said he came to fulfill the law and not to change one jot or tittle?
  • TIPPING THE SCALES OF BLESSING AND FAITHLESSNESS - In Reply - 4 years ago
What kind of love is it that makes something that doesn't have a choice? that's a robot. God gave us a choice and we chose to disobey a known prohibition-don't eat from the two trees! that was their one rule to obey.

What do you do when your 2 Yr old touches a hot stove? I find God To be very practical like a parent almost.

If Adam and Eve had eaten from the tree of life they would have lived eternally in a state of sin and condemnation.

Why are we always suspicious that God is not giving us a fair deal?

Does the clay turn on the Potter and say what are you doin?! what are you making??

We are not asked to lay down and be robots. we are asked to trust him!

If you are going to "trust" God to save your immortal soul; WHY CAN YOU NOT TRUST HIM FOR SAFETY AND A FUTURE?

When the tornadoes struck Kentucky, WHO PRAYED FOR THEM ALL NIGHT LONG?

    Tornadoes are natural Phenomena; weather.

Did God give Adam and Eve dominion over the earth? Do we use that? Jesus gave it back to us AT THE CROSS.

Christians can make a difference. God restored that to us, from Jesus's sacrifice on the Cross.

We think very very small. we have dominion and the ability as Jesus's children, to pray for intervention. God didn't say to us to go hide in caves. JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE. Say to this "mountain ", be removed and cast into the sea, IN JESUS NAME! I believe and have thus decreed.

Have our churches opened shelter to those without any? Biden sent 10!!!!! Mobile homes to Kentucky!!! They need hundreds.

We let them waste our tax money and hope for miracles to rain out of the sky. Get on your knees and grab onto the Horns of the altar of God. Cry out and shake out miracles and blessing for Victims.

It called obedience. It's a "priest" standing between disaster and blessing; asking God to acknowledge our faith and obedience.

Prayer changes outcomes. It is faithless and arrogant not to pray.

Divorce is not the un- pardoned sin , an sense there are many reasons for this I'm very sure , it's only us , ( flesh people) that stand in negative judgment, an that is very sad ,.. an Jesus himself said in mark 13 , it'll be like the times of Noah ,.. an what were we doing in sodem & gamora ? Yup , sinning ,. Men with men , men with children,.. an woman too ,.. it was truly a mess ,.. an it for sure brought God down , an he destroyed them both ,..

    Janice,

Imagine fasting for 40 days as Jesus did. He was fully human and was most likely wasting away physically as most would be after that long of a fast. (I doubt He cheated on His fast). Satan thought that he had Jesus where he wanted Him, weak and willing to sell out. But the tempter did not know that the Holy Spirit was caring for Jesus and strengthening His life and spiritual nature during this time. The tempter underestimated the situation and was defeated by the very Word of God he thought he could ensnare Jesus with. Praise the Lord Almighty!
  • Rick - 4 years ago
I'm presenting this for input. God in Genesis Chapter one in verse 37 says God saw everything that he had

made and it was very good , and the evening and morning were the sixth day. Also God says in James 1:13

basically that God can't be tempted or Tried and that he Tempt no man. Another point He is always endeavoring

to keep man out of the soup so to speak. Here's the question did God put the tree of the knowledge of good and

evil or did the enemy slip it in and Eve and Adam went for it when God said don't. Because the true God doesn't

deal in confusion. Like I said in the beginning this is spit balling and a perpective.
