John 12,
Hopefully you enjoy this study.
I also think that He does want us to celebrate the good things in life. There are many ways to rejoice. There are some things that are fairly universal. Using light in some capacity one of these elements that is used across cultures. We use lights when we have a campfire, when we have an outdoor event in the evening, candles for birthday cakes, etc. These are not acts of worship. It is using light properly. We can rejoice in our life using all kinds of things : music, dancing, singing, creating artworks, whatever. Just because some pagans may use such tings corruptly doesn't take them off of the table for us to use in celebrating the good that God has brought into our lives.
Just my take on this. It is one of those things that Paul speaks about: all things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. And, to be careful that we do not use our liberty to cause someone else to stumble.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and ALL these things shall be added unto you.
God Bless You.
Look at Ishmael and Isaac. Did God love Ishmael less? No. Could Ishmael have a relationship with God? Yes.
Then, look at Jacob and Esau. did God love Esau less? No. Could Esau have a relationship with God? Yes.
Lastly, let's look at the Israelites and the Gentiles. Does God love the Gentiles less? No. Can Gentiles have a relationship with God? Yes. Throughout history God has chosen peoples, groups, and persons to fulfill a specific part of His redemptive plan in human history. Should the one who was chosen be prideful about this? No. They should feel the awesome weight of the particular call of God on them. Should the one not chosen be disappointed or rebellious towards God? No. the unchosen should give God the love and worship He deserves and believe He is ultimately just. Many people throughout history have been "unchosen" yet by their faith have received the promise of salvation. I think of Ruth, Rahab, Cornelius, the Samaritan woman, millions of Gentiles. God made Himself known throughout history through a chosen people, the lineage of Noah, Shem, Eber, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. Those of us who do not have a bloodline in the Israelite lineage have been adopted into this chosen race by the blood of Jesus through faith. I am sure that there were very likely some of Esau's lineage that did believe and serve God in faith. Jesus' blood reaches back to them. He is the God of every one and saves all who seek Him in faith throughout history.
Hebrews 11:20 By faith Isaac BLESSED Jacob and Esau concerning THINGS TO COME.
The writer of Hebrews says those blessings are still in the future, they will come to pass after the resurrection to judgement and God's kingdom has been set up on earth.
Jacob's blessing:
Genesis 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: ......
Esau's blessing:
Genesis 27:40 ...and serve thy brother: and it shall COME TO PASS when THOU SHALL HAVE the dominion, that thou shall break HIS (Jacob's) yoke from off thy neck.
Esau will come into God's kingdom after the resurrection to judgement, the kingdom of God is within you, and all Israel will be saved.
You are right the children were chosen according to the election of GRACE, one a vessel of honour and one a vessel of dishonour, but in the fullness of time God will be all in all.
It is good to hear from you, Chris
And then we have another conundrum as seen in Isaiah 45:7: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things." I share this verse simply to demonstrate the usage & understanding of languages. In Isaiah, we read of two strange phenomena: God creating darkness & creating evil. Can a God Who is altogether Light & altogether Holy & Good create such things? Some might say, yes, because He is God. Rather we should consider that in light of Who God is, maybe the creation of darkness, is actually God removing His Light. Maybe the creation of evil, is God removing His Peace. Darkness is always the default just as is Evil the present default in the World. We enjoy both physical & spiritual Light because of God's intervention through Christ ( Colossians 1:16,17; John 8:12) - we also enjoy great quietness & enjoyment of life because God by His Spirit is holding back the full onslaught of evil ( 2 Thessalonians 2:7).
Therefore Romans 9:13 & Malachi 1:2,3 that speak of 'hating Esau', can only mean that Esau was hated (rejected) in God's Plan, just as Jacob was loved (accepted).
I am blessed to have this opportunity to pray for you. Please check in often so we can know how things are going and to be spurred on to pray for you.
God Bless You
I would like to suggest a possibility here concerning this text.
The text reads 'As it is written " I would like to go to where this phrase was originally drawn from and get the context and tie the two together.
Malachi 1:1-3. The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? WAS NOT ESAU JACOB'S BROTHER? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
God is saying by my feelings and actions shown towards Esau, and he's jacobs brother "Suggesting equal grounds when Israel was Jacob" SHOULD be Proof I Love Jacob. IF THIS HATE WAS CAUSED BY SOMETHING ESAU DID THERE WOULD BE NO EVIDENCE ON DISPLAY HERE OF THE LOVE FOR JACOB.
Atleast consider that for a moment and go back to Romans 9. and let's take it from verse 11 on down to verse 14.
Romans 9:11-14. (FOR THE CHILDREN BEING NOT YET BORN, NEITHER HAVING DONE ANY GOOD OR EVIL,
((( that the purpose of God according to election might stand, )not of works, but of him that calleth;)))!!
It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
Here he Emphasizes THAT THE PURPOSE OF GOD ACCORDING TO ELECTION MIGHT STAND, NOT OF WORKS, BUT OF HIM THAT CALLETH;)
I believe the focus here is Jacob represents Gods Grace. Esau represents the will of the flesh " For lack of better terms "
Perhaps Hate here is used as a term for Comparison as Brother Jesse shared in an earlier post.
Just a suggestion, God bless.
When we correctly handle our material blessings by meeting our essential needs & looking out for the needs of others & the ministry of the Gospel, we will witness the Lord's full consistent riches to us. The difficulty that arises & the question: is the Christian showing little faith in God by saving his spare cash for the future or that rainy day? I had an aunt who lived like that, though she never judged anyone for putting aside money. She wholly trusted the Lord for supplying her needs, whether food or clothing. She looked after a Christian camping/conference facility so accommodation was free, but she received no wages or stipend. If someone gave her a monetary gift, she might buy something she needed & the rest she would give away. Once, she really wanted a green handbag & of course having no money, she laid the matter before the Lord. In time, someone gifted her a bag, & guess what, it was green. And that's how she lived to the day of her decease.
But I believe it's prudent to put money away if at all possible - it may not be for one's own needs but for another that the Lord might bring to you. And of course, in our society, with its never-ending demands upon us for all manner of payments & taxes, it's quite different to those of Christ's day who lived very simply by subsistence endeavours. Indeed, we can "go to the ant" & learn ( Proverbs 6:6-8), not only to engage in wholesome work, but also to lay aside for the future. It's wise to live like that before the Lord - listening for His Direction on how to use what He's given to us & how to bless others in need. It's not just a one-way street. Thanks for raising this up, as seen in Joseph's life & wisdom.
I also understand that as believers, we only have Christ our Light & have no recourse to acknowledging any other significant light. But the lights used in that festival of remembrance don't signify or point to Christ - just an occasion of rejoicing in God's intervention in another sad time in Israel's history. In that case, we should abstain from lit birthday cake candles, outdoor party lights, etc. lest we irreverently detract our joy & light from Christ.
I realise you make connection with most things in the OT to the new (e.g. seeds, natural elements of the world & universe, etc.), but I don't believe that is a faithful translation & understanding of God's Word. So even here, the celebration of Chanukah with its lights, recollections & thanksgiving, cannot be connected to Christ our Light. Thank you for your input Alex.
the seat of his personal life had no believing or commitment. He sold his birthright out just for food he
disobeyed his parents, he would have killed his brother. Rebeccah was walking and listening to God,
she knew who the promise was to go to. Romans 9 is talking about the believing line by promise, Esau
was crooked in his Heart and God knew it.
thx,timoz
Joseph commanded his responsibilities with wisdom and good judgment. He was able to convince people to live on less than the abundance of their crop yields in order to store up much than what Egypt would use during the famine. There was enough for those tribes that came to Egypt for relief from starvation during the famine. Pharaoh ad chosen wisely in placing Joseph in charge.
How often we can overspend in times of plenty when we probably should live modestly in order to save up for future expenses or possible downturns in our ability to earn income. In Egypt it was a matter of daily sustenance that they needed to consume in moderation to supply for the future famine. In current times, consumerism is such a trap as we are constantly being marketed by advertisers and social influence. May we all take some time to prayerfully re-evaluate our own lifestyles.
I need to break up from someone now that I know is not right. He texts the most
horrible things and I have just met him. He then turns nice. I don't know which version will show up. I need
God's choice for me, a peaceful Godly man
I am praying for you, too. May you know God's peace in the midst of this and may you be encouraged to trust Him even more in this more desperate time. Can't make do without a heart, so I pray for the Lord to heal the one you have or provide a donor heart soon, should He choose to take someone home to Himself in order to provide a heart for you. May the person who would be a donor come to know Jesus before the time comes for him or her to pass. May we leave all this in God's hands according to His righteous and holy will. Amen.

"Christ's coming and birth at Bethlehem was not an accident; it was an appointment. Jesus Christ came at God's appointed time, not a moment too late, and not a second too early. The first Christmas miracle started long before Bethlehem. It took place over many centuries as God worked, foretold, and prepared Israel for His Son's coming."
