I believe the original Bible language was Greek and it's translation of meekness is strength restrained. Knowing you are in a position to do something but having the will power not to act on your position of strength. For an example a teacher having a reason to send a child to the principals office but choosing instead to speak gently to the child or ignoring the infraction so that it the child's mistake doesn't weigh on his permanent record or get him expelled.

My KJV Bible does not mention the name Jehovah once in the New Testament and only 4 times in the Old Testament. Why is that?

As the letter "J" was not invented until the 16th century why does your church translate YHWH as Jehovah and how can you be sure how the name should be pronounced and does it matter as different languages use different spelling and pronunciation?

Are you aware that the name given by an angel to his mother, Mary, for her son was Yeshua?

This isn't so much a Bible question but a question of how God would want me to handle a situation. I am a new Christian so not well versed in finding answers. My husband is happy with our only child and I thought I was too but now I can't help but want another baby even though we are both in the older range for having a baby me being 34 and him 48 and with covid a big concern for us especially since I would need a c section and all the risk of visiting a hospital weekly. I understand and agree whole heartedly with why we shouldn't but my desire is not going away. I have not mentioned it to my husband and have no plans to but I don't know how to get rid of the overwhelming desire to have another baby.

Dear Lord, I pray for healing upon this land. You have offered us a land rich in resources and in many places we have desecrated it. I pray for revival in this place that the scales of eyes will fall off so that people can see and follow you perhaps for the first time. Amen.

David, thank you for suggesting that the coat was referring to Jacob declaring Joseph to be the heir. That must have made is brothers feel terrible. The heir was to be the firstborn, but Jacob decided otherwise. It doesn't say when Jacob gave Joseph the coat. As a growing teen, it may have been recent so that it would fit well enough for Joseph to wear at the time his brothers stripped him (probably, in a way, stripping him of his "heirness) and placed him in the cistern. It also does not say when Joseph told of his dreams. So, we do not really know how long the brothers had "stomach" Joseph strutting around in this coat, speaking of his dreams, but perhaps, not doing much work for the family. I don't think that Joseph was all that innocent here, but he grew into a great man of God in Egypt. God had chosen him. Perhaps, He had told Jacob that already. As Joseph served as a slave in Egypt, he was brought low in order to be raised up to a very high position in the Egyptian government. Like Jacob, he was away from his family for a very long time, time for God to mature them both in their respective situations.

Hi Tersia. Could you have been referring to Ephesians 1:14 in the Good News Translation Bible? As hereunder:

"The Spirit is the guarantee that we shall receive what God has promised his people, and this assures us that God will give complete freedom to those who are his. Let us praise his glory!"

This particular version of the Bible is inaccurate - a little like the Readers Digest version. I know that the GNB is easier to read however, the correct message is often not recorded correctly. The King James Version is the most accurate, with a few others coming a close second.

So the KJV states it like this: "Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

The meaning & expansion of this is: the Holy Spirit (seen in verse 13) is given to all those who have repented of their sins & put their faith in Jesus; this Spirit has come into the new follower of Christ & seals him/her (i.e. the Spirit's Presence is God's Seal of salvation marking that person as a child of God). And this seal which is "the earnest" (or, God's down-payment) of our new life in Christ (our inheritance), will always remain within the child of God until "the redemption of the purchased possession". And this means, that till the day when God calls us Home to be with Him physically in our new bodies, God's Spirit will always be with us on Earth to keep us 'sealed', guaranteeing our salvation, & to minister to us. Once we arrive to our Heavenly Home, the seal is no longer needed as our redemption (because of Christ's payment for us by His blood) is now fully complete - we're in God's Presence forever - no more earthly concerns & woes - no more temptations & sins. And this is all of God's Work, both in giving us His Son & bringing us into Glory - and for all this we can give "unto (Him) the praise of His Glory".

You're always welcome back here if you have other questions. The Lord bless you as you study Ephesians.

    Sacha,

Don't raise your eye. Make no mistake, this planet is hell on earth, our minds become caged in with Satan precision. Seeing that the next age doesn't have drought and destruction, it's more as though we become nothing but ash and dust with no feelings, no more tears to cry, no more thoughts to think. My soul goes back to God, so why would I care about anything else? End of discussion.

It was me last year who persuaded you to stay, and now I would persuade you to go. It's not easy banging your heart against someone's ideological wall.

Titus 3:2 says to speak evil of no man, do not be brawlers, or fighters, but rather be gentle. The word gentle in the Greek text means lenient. And then shewing all meekness unto all men.

The word meekness here means to be open. It means openness, receptivity. That's one of the main words that is used in the scriptures for those who are in teaching or pastoral ministries. But meekness doesn't mean that you play the role of a doormat. It means to be open and to be receptive.

I think one of the hardest things for those in a teaching ministry is to be open and receptive because they don't know all the answers. Who does? And if someone is coming up to them to try and prove them wrong, it kind of puts them in a bad position. So, it's difficult in the human according to pride to be open and receptive to all people, but it's necessary. It is necessary for the person who is up front and is teaching, that they be more open and receptive than anybody else in the whole room.

But it should apply to all believers also. Why? Because we're all the same, and we're all on the same level. We've all learned about the Lord from down here. None of us have come from up there. If you have, I want to meet you!

So, it's showing all meekness, openness to all men. You can see that he's presenting a new lifestyle, a new kind of life. Don't complain about the earthly system. Pray for them. Be ready more for the things of the Lord. Don't speak against people. Don't fight with them. But rather be lenient, even when people are abusing you or being mean to you, just be gentle, be lenient, showing all openness and receptivity unto all men. Everybody, saved and unsaved!

And this is because of the primary characteristics of the old life in Titus 3:3, and there are seven of them.

From the time that Jesus performed His first miracle, (turning water into wine)-

to the time that the last of the original Apostles died (I think John was the last)

miracles were performed by Jesus or in His name. After Jesus ascended into Heaven, and the Holy Spirit descended to earth at the first Pentecost- the miracles started winding down. All those miracles were a one-time event.

At the end of Paul's life he couldn't even heal anyone anymore.

So the question is: since there are no more miracles to be expected, will saying to someone wicked, "The Lord rebuke you" do any good???

I still have a disagreement that it's unconditional.

The condition is to believe, trust , have faith in God . And our actions prove this , it has little to do with the law .

    The law came after Abraham.

    God rewards obedience.

And Gods the judge of that too .

Abraham is the father of faithfulness . An example we should all seek to learn from .

James said faith without works is dead . Abraham is an example of what James meant .

I fully agree we are not justified by the keeping of the law .

But obeying the same God as in Hebrews ch 2 .1,2,3,4

John ch 6 v 44,45 Jesus confirms that God teaches all men or they will never come , they can disobey to their loss .

Any way getting too long here , I hope this helps some .

I must apologize to readers. When I began reading Genesis about one month ago, I was new to this site and such a forum as this. So, after reading the chapters, I would read what has been said in discussion, and then write what I get out of the chapter. I am not really writing to anyone but myself. It helps me remember and process information. I do hope that some may bring some answers to some of my "wonderings" as I often post questions that come to mind. I also hope that some will find something helpful in what I post.

I know that I write at length. That is how my brain works to process thoughts. So, I apologize if some are irritated with this style. I don't mean to offend anyone.

I started a journal on Genesis last week, so I have gone back to my posts to re read what I have written to jog my memory. These posts are helping me in this review. I am not very tech savvy, so this is the best way I know how to do this. So, please bear with me as I take this trip into Genesis. Ignore me if you wish. I certainly don't mind if anyone does that.

Just thought to go back to Genesis 1 and add this for anyone who may start there and wonder, "Who is this GiGi"?

I am just and old believer who is looking to be refreshed by God's Word. I ad no idea this site had a discussion forum when I first searched for it. The discussion forum was not why I came here, but God knows what I need and led me here.

    Jonijo,

Peter is dealing with false teachers in the church. 1 Peter was written to warn believers about the threat from outside the church, from the world. Peter wrote his second letter to warn the church about the threat within, false teaching, and the false teachers.

1 Peter 2:20-21 speaks about the position of the captives, the ones who fell captive to the false teachers. We see their condition in verse 20. It starts out by saying, "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world, and please notice this: through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

They have responded to the truth, the facts about Jesus. And they've come and said yes, this is true. And they are again entangled therein, and they are overcome. And the concept is: the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

And then verse 21 says, "For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

Notice that the emphasis is on what they know! They haven't surrendered their life to Christ. These are not saved people. They received the knowledge of the truth, but then they came into the church and latched onto false teachers that taught them how to go out into the world, and get sin "In the name of Jesus."

Then we have the portrayal of the captives in 2 Peter 2:22. It says, "But it is happened unto them (These are the people in verses 20-21), which is a fulfillment of prophecy ( Proverbs 26:11), but it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow, that is, the pig that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

There has to be a transformation and a change, because a pig will always go back. You can wash it clean and you know what's going to happen? It's going to dive right back into that mud hole again! Cleaning people up on the outside is not anyone's commission. It's bringing them to Christ!

    Chris.

I think like you do on all points in your post. This is my first time being a part of any online forum. I am new to this and am learning the ropes. I, too, only wish to present a point of view that may not have yet been said on a topic or to share on a topic where there is similarity of viewpoint. I am not trying to argue, as I do not think you are, either, because presenting a viewpoint and even going back and forth a few times is actually a part of discussing. Some people do not like that, especially if someone presents a strong viewpoint. But, I do not think a strong viewpoint is wrong nor a weak viewpoint right or visa versa. No one is obligated to read or respond to anyone on this site, as far as I know. So, each person will decide for themselves what to attend to and what to pass over.

I very much believe that everyone I have read on this site have a deep love for God and are exercising their own thinking on spiritual matters, which is such a good thing. Certainly one of the good things to come of the internet is to enable a forum like this. It is edifying and challenges us to re-think our own views and consider others. This is profitable.

I am grateful for reply to me and your advice is welcome.

    Hi Hans.

You may want to go back over what you are disagreeing on.

The Emphasis here is by faith Abraham was counted righteous APART from the deeds of the Law.

    Please see Galatians 4:21-28

Here's the Context of my Original post

    Galatians 4:28

Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Isaac is not a Child of the flesh

" NOT OF ABRAHAM AND SARAH'S DOING THEY WERE BARREN."

The Promise was given BEFORE Abraham believed.

This promise was "INITIATED" and confirmed by a covenant back in

Genesis 15:8-12. Not in Genesis 22.

Abraham was put to sleep so God entered the covenant alone.

    Only he can break it!!

It's not broken or held up by any condition of Abraham.

"A conditional covenant needs both parties passing between the divided carcass."

Now let's go over the steps in sequence.

1 Abraham is given a Promise by God.

    Genesis 15:4-5.

    THEN.

2 Abraham believed God. What did he believe in? God's PROMISE.

    Genesis 15:6.

    3rd God performs the covenant.

    Genesis 15:8-12.

Note: The Land is tied to the promise, But that's for a different study.

    " Hebrews 11:8-10."

THIS IS WHERE THE GOSPEL IS PREACHED TO ABRAHAM.

    " Galatians 3:5-10."

    1) We have God's PROMISE " His Word.

    2) We have Abraham believed the PROMISE "Faith "

    IMPORTANT TO NOTICE.

( Ephesians 2:8. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:)

    3) In Genesis 22 We will see the Resurrection.

    GENESIS 22.16.

Here in Genesis 22 what is it Abraham believed in? This is about 33 years after the "PROMISE OF ISAAC" in Genesis 15.

Answer: Hebrews 11:17-19. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:

ACCOUNTING THAT GOD WAS ABLE TO RAISE HIM UP, EVEN FROM THE DEAD; from whence also he received him in a figure.

    Abraham stumbled with these promises.

    Gen. 17:17-18.

    Thank God it's UNCONDITIONAL.

I have prayed for this family. this virus has caused so much death, illness, hardship, and loss. Whether from the virus or the vaccine, we have lost so many. It is true that most people don't notice much how many people die daily from all causes, but this "gift" from China has made everyone more aware of loss of life in general. May more and more people turn to God while they can.

May God comfort these loved ones in their loss and miraculously end the spread of covid so vaccines will no longer be the pushed "go to" as a remedy.

... Onan robbed God of the opportunity to create a new life from this intimate act. If Onan had not engaged in intimacy at all, he would have disobeyed is father and the custom, but he would not have robbed God. This is why some people believe that contraceptive relations(any intimate act that: does not deposit "seed" into the woman (coitus interruptus, condoms) and any intimate act that: deposits seed in the woman but actions are done to kill or hinder motility of seed by the use of drugs, plugs, jams, and jellies; or any action that causes an abortion (I.U.D. by preventing implantation); or any temporary or permanent action that causes sterility) is wrong since it's intent is to have the pleasure of intimacy but refusing God the opportunity to create a new life in any act of intimacy. This does not mean that every act of intimacy should be to conceive, as conception is not possible on every day of a woman's fertility cycle, nor that people who are infertile should not have intimacy with their spouses. It means that every act of intimacy should be left open for for conception to naturally occur as God wills. I know many will be upset by this explanation, but I feel that so many people do not understand why some people are opposed to contraception due to not having a thorough explanation of this viewpoint. That said, I am not saying that this is my view or that believers need to have this view. I simply suggest that believers consider how seriously God took Onan's actions and be prayerful of how they live out intimacy in their lives. God chose to bond together in one act multiple purposes: union/procreation/pleasure. Does man have a right to break these purposes apart at will just because we can? Normally, couples do not need to add anything to the way God designed the intimacy to cause fertility. But contraception, say opponents, involves an act against this design. I had to wrestle prayerfully with this in my life. May God lead each into his mindset and will.

... moving on with the chapter. Judah's wife died. Tamar realized that Shelah was grown and had not been allowed to take her for a wife by Judah. (Judah was probably afraid to lose yet another son in this endeavor to produce heirs.) After mourning his wife's death, Judah went into town. Tamar heard that he had gone to town, so she removed her widow's clothing and put on the attire of a prostitute and went to town, too. She sat along the roadside (which must have been the common way for prostitute to advertise her availability.) Judah saw her and requested to have of her services. Funny how Tamar was expected to dress like a widow and stay out of town and Judah could just waltz right in.) Tamar had a plan and cleverly secured a some of Judah's personal affects to use as a pledge that he will pay her a goat for her services.

Then she went back home and put on her widow's clothing. Tamar did not go to town because she wanted to be a prostitute. She went to town so Judah would chose to be intimate with her so she could produce an heir for her husbands from within the family. Both she and Judah were wrong to do this.

After 3 months she began to show that she was pregnant. Everyone wanted to have her burned for immorality. But when she produced Judah's personal effects, he realized that he was the father of Tamar's child. So he fessed up and also admitted that it was wrong for him to not give Tamar to is son Shelah. It doesn't seem that he ever did. Tamar gives birth to twin sons. (what if she had a girl?) She must have lived as Judah's wife but they lived without having further intimate contact.

This story is very "in your face" with the offenses done and many may be appalled by what happened. But it is a good illustration for us to understand how appallingly "in your face" our sins must be to God. It seems he included this story to teach us something about sin. That thoughts and actions, can be sinful. That acts of commission and omission can be sinful.

Bad things will happen. The destroyer will kill, steal, and destroy you, and yours. Gods chastisement may well be upon you too. Which will also be very painful. Please pray for this family and so many others who have lost loved ones due to the deadly and tragic vaccine mandates. This is heart breaking and so unjust.

Man's wife told husband to not get the covid vaccine despite his work mandate. He applied for religious exemption, but his employer denied exemption. He then got the Pfizer vaccine, developed blood clots, and died. He was 38. VAERS ID:1823666

Please pray over this as this is very troubling and the fact that there are nearly 1 million other adverse reactions and deaths just in the USA which is not covered by the media is absolutely sickening and a new level of evil we haven't seen. These pharma companies and politicians are making billions from pushing these untested injections and it's killing people.

Well written GiGi. Some of us have been following these many & varied comments for a few years now, so we can understand where some folk come from in regards to understanding Scripture. And as much as this is an open medium to share one's thoughts on the Scriptures & I try to read & seek to understand every comment given, I have to confess that I do need to do some mental & spiritual gymnastics (even contortions) to try & assimilate some things being written here. For the brothers in question (& even some others), I truly believe they genuinely love the Lord & are doing their best to interpret the Word, so I rather leave the matter unless specifically addressed to me. But unfortunately, the matter is then never pursued.

My understanding is that the Word of God is God's Message through His spokesmen, delivering what mankind needs to hear & learn. First for His people Israel, & then to the World. If any take the Bible & submerge it in types, allegories, metaphors & mystical meanings, then it really is of no use to anyone & interpretation is open to whatever one deems it to be. Where the message needs explaining, the explanation is given in the Word - whether the parables, the Book of Revelation, or even Paul's epistles (e.g. Sarah/Hagar). Where the meaning is not given, the Word is stored in our hearts for the Spirit's revealing in His Time. Therefore, I find it best to leave arguing on such divergent interpretations, except to state in the same thread what my understanding of it is, as a alternate understanding for other people's consideration. Many of us appreciate your clear Scriptural foundations, your vibrant sharing, & defence of the Truth. Every blessing.

literally making Egypt the wealthiest in the world at that time also of God changing situations in His life from lemons to lemonade because he believed.

The main characters of this chapter are Judah, (Jacob's 4th son; son of Leah), and Tamar. It starts out with Judah taking a Canaanite woman for a wife. We do not know if any of is brothers had married outside the family or not. But it says that Judah had purposely separated himself from the family most likely to find a wife, since Dinah was the only sister and female relative around the area. His brother, Rueben, had slept with his fathers concubine. These boys needed wives at their ages!

From her(Shuah) was born three sons, Er, Onan, and Shelah. When Er was grown, Judah chose Tamar for a wife for Er. Jewish tradition says that Tamar was from Shem's lineage. (Shem lived into Jacob's lifetime.) Tamar did not have children by Er. The text says that he did evil in the sight of the Lord. God slew him. So, the custom was for a brother to marry his sister in law in order to raise up a child as an heir for is brother. Onan was old enough to fulfill this custom. But he did not want to father a child with Tamar. Instead of refusing to have intercourse with her, he chose to have the pleasure without the responsibility of fathering a child, especially for his brother. He used coitus interruptus (pulling out before ejaculation) and ejaculated outside of Tamar. God saw what he did and said it was evil. He slew Onan. I think that both Er and Onan were guilty of the same act: coitus interruptus. Why would God slay both within the context of this story if their sin was not somehow connected.

Some people say that Onan's sin was not wanting to allow for Tamar to become pregnant since the child would be considered his brothers. But it says that what Onan did was evil, not why he did it. If he had refused to sleep with Tamar, God may not have slew him. For me, I think that Onan's primary sin was sexual: coitus interruptus: a from of contraception, because he did it to avoid impregnation. And his secondary sin was is motivation, to not sire a child for his brother.
