The JWs brought in their elders to talk to me two days later. We discussed the same matter with our Bibles opened. They also spoke of death as sin's penalty (as you have) & that no other eternal fiery judgement awaited the unrepentant. So I asked, 'if you're preaching a salvation that ultimately finds one in the everlasting Presence of God, are you then saying that death is the only punishment for the ungodly?' They affirmed that.
I then asked, 'But if we all die & some are raised incorruptible to reign with Christ & God, what then is the judgement for sin & Christ rejection?' 'Only death', they said. 'So does it makes any sense that an innocent Jesus, God's Son, should suffer an horrible death for us, the apostles should willingly lay down their lives for the love of Christ & the Gospel, & countless others have not denied their Saviour, many walking joyfully to the stake of fiery death, just so that the sinner's present & final judgement rests only in the grave?' Those men arose & left.
If it wasn't for the fact that Jesus was my sin-Bearer, bringing me into a new & right relationship with the Godhead, and that eternal suffering was my certain destiny, then I would not be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ today - I would be quite satisfied to 'eat, drink & be merry', die a natural death without a Saviour, maybe raised up later for judgement & put to death again with no further consciousness in the grave. But when conviction came, I ran into the arms of a merciful Saviour in Heaven because I fled from the arms of a ruthless Satan awaiting his fiery destiny ( Revelation 20:10, 21:8). The Offence of the Cross is ceased if any other Gospel is preached that provides an easy road to indifferent sinners.
Thank you for those two sets of comments brother Earl. Briefly, in reference to those three verses from the OT, the thought that comes through from them (in our present subject), is that both David & Ezekiel spoke about "the lowest hell & the nether parts of the Earth". The grave or entombment of a body cannot support the meaning that these writers intended. 'Sheol' does have other meanings, but you have chosen the 'grave' as the consistent one (which I agree, is generally seen), whereas the 'nether parts of the Earth & lowest hell' clearly mean something deeper & more sinister than just the grave.
Leaving that aside, I'm back to my original story of the JW's visit to me, so I'll proceed without receiving an answer to my question. Firstly, the Gospel, which proclaims to all the results & benefits of Christ's Sacrifice, speaks to both the Father & to mankind.
God required it: for a Lamb must be slain to satisfy God, as 'payment by a life for a life'. Not only was His Anger appeased (= propitiation), but He could forgive us because His Son took upon Himself our sin & penalty securing our redemption & acceptance with the Father.
Man needed the Gospel: for there could be no other who could bear his sin, forgive us completely & present us faultless before the Father. So the repentant sinner was not only forgiven through Christ's Sacrifice but was also freed from the penalty that his sin rightfully deserved.
people are not lost because they lack knowledge. (That is what gnostics teach). People are lost because sin makes them enemies of God, like we once were. When we hear the gospel of Jesus, the Word is effective in giving us fait to believe. Some will accept this faith and others will reject it. Christ did die for all mankind, and His atonement was for all mankind, however, He did say that those who do not believe are condemned. He stated many times that hell is a place of punishment for those who are condemned for unbelief. I don't have the Scriptures handy, but perhaps that is something you can research on your own. I am heading off to bed. Have 10 yards of gravel arriving early in the morning and I have my work cut out for me raking it all out.
God's blessing to you. I understand that we will most likely not come to agreement on this. That is ok. We have both spoken our thoughts on this. I leave it in the hands of the Lord to sow us the truth in this matter. Good night.
My original was "What color is jasper and sardine stone". I shocked by the answer and I had to respond. Amazon fixed it.
Again sorry
All mankind HAS BEEN REDEEMED, and their life is HID with CHRIST.
Colossians 3:3 For ye (all mankind) are dead and your life is HID with Christ in God.
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if the gospel be HID, it is HID to them that are lost.
Mankind is SAVED, they can not lose their salvation, they can not go to hell, their SAVED.
Their lost because of lack of knowledge.
The gospel is bringing this knowledge to mankind.
God will cause them to repent, cause them to believe, cause them to have faith, cause them to love, ect., etc., because it his LIFE IN YOU. Of yourself you can do nothing.
1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. Man has no knowledge of this.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God (his life) that worketh in you both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure (Because it's HIS LIFE).
You stated, "If you don't receive salvation until final judgment, how can you say we can lose our salvation?" I should have said "expected salvation", my apologies, I believe we have an "expectation of salvation" after being Born Again.
I believe you seem to be saying you have guaranteed salvation now! Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting you on this. I said that when we are born again we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling as expressed by apostle Paul and by becoming obedient to God including following his commandments, while following Christ's examples for living a good productive Christian life.
It is my belief that we can lose "our expected salvation" come judgement day if Jesus makes this determination per his scripture. Please Reread: Revelation 22:12-14 Jesus will be the Judge regarding everyones salvation.
Does Jesus make the final call? I believe he does!
God Bless.
I am not saying that I have all of the answers, but I do go back and read what I can on topics from this time period so I can represent what was written for those times and for ours, as well. I firmly believe that the Lord will preserve His church through out time. I cannot tolerate any new revelations or interpretations that add to Scripture or contradicts it or do damage to the plain interpretation of Scriptures. When we get to heaven, we will all know in full, but Jude's warning tells us that it is important to address wat seems "off" on this site, as there are so many who read it. So, those of us who can and are willing will and should "wrestle" with each other at times in order for both to come to a better and clearer understanding of what God is communicating in His Word, always framing every conversation lovingly

I'm a little confused here. You said "I believe that we can actually lose our salvation - because I believe we do not receive it until our final judgement."
If you don't receive salvation until final judgment, how can you say we can lose our salvation? How can you lose something you don't presently have?
You mention being born again? For me it means that I have been born of God's Spirit. My salvation is present tense, not something I receive after death and judgement.
You say that the problem lies where Paul says that if we are not fearful, we can slip back into our sinful worldly ways and lose our salvation. I'm assuming you are referring to Philippians 2:12 where Paul says to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling?
But Paul does not say anything about losing salvation. Why would Paul say to work out our own salvation if we're not saved now? If we're not saved now, then there's no salvation to work out!
I agree that we still have free will after being born again. We have free will to be disobedient to the Lord. But if we choose to be disobedient, He's going to deal with us. When Satan tempts you to be disobedient to the Lord, what are you going to do? Jonah exercised his free will when God told him to go to Ninevah. That didn't work out to well for Jonah.
Do you honestly believe that in Revelation 22:12-14 that "Jesus is telling us what He will be expecting from us to receive our salvation and enter into the City?" We should already know what He expects. Why would He tell us at that time what He expects from us? I already know what He expects from me. He expects obedience and faithfulness. These verses are referring to the time where we as believers will stand at the judgement seat of Christ. This judgement is not to determine salvation, but what reward/s we will receive. We're saved now. We as believers will all pass through the fire, and whatever is not of Christ will burn, but we ourselves will be saved ( 1 Corinthians 3:11-17).
As we fellowship we come together to grow in all areas of the faith, At the moment we may not be able to agree on all things, But some day we will. But that doesn't mean we should yield to false doctrine or false teachers. In fact Revelation ch 2 and 3 we're being judged for suffering these false teachings to creep in.
Revelation 2:20. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou "SUFFERETH" that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
Revelation 2:14. But I have a few things against thee, BECAUSE THOU HAST THERE ( THEM ) that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.
Have you noticed The Lord is not condemning them for holding the doctrine of Balaam, He's condemning them for having those there that do!! And like so with jezebel.
Have you noticed when we're liberal we get alone with everyone and they get alone with us. But when truth and the straight and narrow way is presented then there comes the train wreck! You will see hate without a cause!!
Some blend in quite well, Some loose all self control and attack even the newcomers.
A believer that has been spiritualy born should bare fruit!! And the Spirit should CAUSE those who are in Christ to Love one another. Not join themselves to everyone who comes on the site and attack the faith! Agape/ Love for the brothern is something the flesh cannot do, .
Why is there so much fuss about doctrine but no fuss at all what sincere milk should cause you to do?
1 John 4:21. And this commandment have we from him, THAT HE WHO LOVETH GOD LOVE HIS BROTHER ALSO.
Have you noticed it doesn't say "SHOULD" Love his brother!! It's saying that Love given to Love God is "CAUSING" you to Love your brother also!!
GOD BLESS.
With love
Your sister in Christ.
Please let us know how it is going. God bless my dear!
Your loving sister in Christ
Good luck my friend and will keep y'all in our prayers.
My prayer is to give an honest reply or statement based on what I know from Scripture and have been taught over the years from various pastors, etc. whom I have queried about scriptural matters. I always want to be a humble student, eager to learn the Word and those He has placed in my way to teach me.
What does the bible say about regaining faith?
When speaking with someone about the gospel, I ask the person to tell me what they know about Jesus and salvation. And then I know what to tell them to urge them to be saved through Jesus.
I think it is good to ask others what they think is the gospel message. It drives us to Thank the Word to review what Paul and Peter said it was. Thank you for asking. You are welcome to relay to me what you say the gospel is, if you wish.
I will simply refer you to what Peter preached in Acts 2:22-39 as a great account of the gospel that was preached after Pentecost. This I believe.
God Bless You!
