Hi there, I recently studied up on what is meant by these trees. This is speaking of Asherah poles or trees, that were set up next to an altar of Baal. They could be living or cut, but often carved in an image of Asherah (Ishtar, Isis are some equivalents.) These were often erected among groves of trees on top of a hill used as a sanctuary for pagan worship to these idols. People also planted trees next to the altars of Baal either to create a grove or to have trees to use as Asherah poles. It is likely that they adorned these poles with silver and gold ornamentation to honor these idols.

Such practices using trees were common among the Druids and Germanic tribes who were pagan. This does not mean that a Christmas tree automatically is an Asherah pole or an evergreen idol worshipped by the Druids/Germanic pagans.

I think that each person needs to search their hearts about what the Christmas tree represents to them, since it seems the origin of their use is in paganism. But, with prayer, God will let someone know if it is proper to have one to commemorate the advent of Jesus our Lord. The Israelites erected altars to worship God and remembrance stones/pillars to be a reminder of what God has done for them which is similar to what the pagans did. So, there is biblical reference for God's people having symbols to remind them of God's work and Person, as long as one does not worship the symbol instead of God or have the symbol represent God, Himself. It is a fine line to walk. I don't really have a definitive answer. Perhaps going a year without a tree may help someone discern if it is a practice that is needed for them or, changing the way it is viewed, perhaps simply as decor that bring cheer to the heart in the dark winter days. In any way, we do need to be aware of what unbelievers will think or say about how we apply such customs in our lives,, because they are a witness for good or not.

Hello, In the book of Acts, it seems that the gift of speaking in tongues (languages unknown to speaker) most likely manifested in believers following the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. I does not say anywhere in Scripture that it always did.

The account of Paul in Acts 9:17-18 says that Ananias laid hands on Paul and the Holy Spirit caused the scales to fall from Paul's eyes, restoring is blindness from His encounter with the risen Christ. He was then baptized in water by Ananias. It does not say that Paul began to speak in tongues when he was filled with the Holy Spirit, although Paul does later say that he does speak in tongues. So, I believe that the Spirit gives diverse spiritual gifts to the body of Christ as e sees fit. Anyone who has been believed and been baptized as received the Holy Spirit. The "filling" of Holy Spirit is the Spirit equipping a person for the work He as for us to do to build up the body of Christ. It is adding spiritual power and abilities to the person to do the specific work God desires the person to carry out in ministry.

    Hi Victoria,

There are many sources of information on the internet to gain understanding about Him. The primary source is the Bible. There are also many God has appointed along the way to now that have given gifts to explain spiritual truths.

I just have one warning, there is also a lot of error proposed on the internet, so I suggest you ask God to send you to the right information and people. I hope you will soon find a pastor and a church family that can guide you as well (if you are not in a church congregation yet.)

    My dear friend.

I understand what you are going through. Because I did not understand how all this works (even though I thought I did) It took time and a lot of research and soul searching. Gavin YOU ARE NOT ALONE! When I started realizing what was going on I believed I was not alone but in a bad way. I had lust. I was looking for anyone to love me. I always prayed over and over for help. But MY eyes and ears were closed to the voice of God. But when I started opening up my eyes and ears, everything started getting better. I did not give up on God, I gave up on ME. Now I know that God never gave up on me. What I mean about listening and looking. Sometimes you might be say at a doctors office and pick up a magazine and you turn to a SUBJECT that was bothering you . That might have been the Holy Spirit guiding you to that book to find your answer. You might come across someone who started talking about a subject they had a problem with and found the answer. The same answer you was looking for. TADA!!! It happen to me so often that now I get a kick out of it.

Gavin my friend, Don't give up on God and yourself. As you get closer and closer to God I promise the other issue will fade away. And yes, God gave me the perfect man. If I gave God a shopping list of what kind of husband I needed He filled the bag perfectly. Wait he will find the right person for you. Keeping going to church.

Good Luck My Brother in Christ

    We all LOVE you!

Thank you, Chris, for responding. I just looked up what the early church taught about hell, and it is aligned with your thinking and mine. Those martyrs that followed right after the apostles, having been appointed as overseers (bishops) by the apostles or by one that the apostles had appointed, taught the doctrine of hell as a place of eternal separation from God and punishment. This is what Jesus saves us from (sin, death, hell, and the evil one) along with what He saves us to (justification before God, forgiveness of sin, resurrection of our bodies to immortality, and communion with God for eternity. This stance has been affirmed by the church through the centuries in both Catholic and Protestant sects. There have always been those who teach as Earl does, but these teachings have been routinely denounced through the church age as error.

It is good to hear from you. You have such a solid take on issues and we all need to such perspectives.

Brother Chris, the three verse you referenced:

Deuteronomy 32:22 For a fire is kindled in my anger and shall burn unto the lowest hell (Heb. sheol) .....

Psalms 86:13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and you have delivered my soul from the lowest hell (Heb. sheol).

Ezekiel 31:15 Then said the Lord God, In the day when he went down to the grave (Heb. sheol) I caused a mourning, I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.

Ezekiel 31:16 I made the nation shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell (Heb. sheol) with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.

Ezekiel 31:17 They also went down into hell (Heb. sheol) with him unto to them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.

These verse in Ezekiel is talking about Pharaoh and his army, Verse 15 says he went to the grave (sheol), but verses 16 and 17 says he went down to hell (sheol).

The same word can not we translated as two meaning, when it's describing the same event.

Alex N. When Jesus breathed on them in John 20:21-23 At the end of 21 he says as the father sent me even so I send

you then he breathed om them and said receive ye pneuma hagion or holy ghost or spirit that was showing them how to

receive. Eleven of them didn't receive until pentecost because it wasn't available until he sat down at Gods right hand totally accomplishing what he was sent to do. I said eleven because judas never made it and mathias took his place or ministry.

Bro Dan Why does the bible say Jesus was Baptised in water. Also what is rightly dividing the word to stand approved of God mean. Trust me this is not to argue or to disagree but to get someone elses opinion. My perspective is I always learn either what to adhere to or not, not to judge, that's not my Job. I share because I love to not because I'm trying to shove,

or prove what I understand about the Word.

Grace - My believe about Math 2:21,22 is somewhat similar but slightly different. When you are saved you become a new person, thus you are no longer the 'old person'. To try to mix the two will NOT work, hence the parable of the new garment and the wine. May God bless.

Good morning, Proverbs 13:17 tries to warn us that there are messengers that can carry a message that is not true because the messenger is not representing the King of the Kingdom of Peace and Grace as His ambassador. For the Gospel to remain in good health, it has to be in the health, peace and truth of the King, Jesus Christ. He alone is our Lord and King if we are faithful until the end. He is beautiful and at rest. That we can have his ambassadorship in our hearts and lives today.

Brother Chris, the wages of sin is death and the grave. Our sin, most of which, is unbelief, causes death, and when we are dead we cannot bring glory to our creator. Christ died and was resurrected to restore this condition. Christ overcomes sin in our lives, therefore at some point in time, death will be destroyed. Those called out in this age are coming to this knowledge. Those not called out in this age will be resurrected back to their flesh and brought to truth.

Luke 16:26 The gulf that can't be passed over is death and the grave, locked in prison.

Matthew 5:25-26 In this scripture our (flesh) is the adversary to God (Spirit) if we don't agree with Him, he delivers us to the judge (Christ, the words and chastisement), if we still don't agree, he delivers us to the officer (death) and cast us into prison (grave).

Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan (flesh) shall be loosed out of prison (death and the grave), the gulf that couldn't be crossed.

Christ has the keys to death and the grave. His resurrection unlocked and destroyed death and the grave, we are restored to Sons of God. ( Job 38:7)( Revelation 22:16)

    Job 17:13-16

Chris, for fifty plus years, I was taught and BELIEVED in a Literal place called heaven and a Literal place called hell.

God stopped me dead in my tracks and isolated me for five plus years with his word and his Spirit, and taught me what the Kingdom of God actually is. It not a place, it's a person, Sons of God, like Christ himself.

All of creation are brothers and sisters, of an in CHRIST, and at God's appointed time, each and everyone with be delivered, By CHRIST, into the Kingdom of God.

When Jesus breathe on them and they received the H.G. is just proof that without his seed ( his breath ) his Words we cannot receive the good gift which is the H.G. the H.G. fell on them that heard his Words which was his breath, Like he said you are made clean by the Word i have spoken unto you, ( his breath ) Thats y he has to know us .Thus Christ is truly the Father of the H.G. Even in the natural bridegrooms become Fathers simply b/c of their seeds . There simply cannot be any salvation without his WORDS that good seed . I.E there cannot be any salvation ( Child Birth ) without his seed as the woman does not travail in Child birth till the book is opened and the words of th book have been written with his own blood thus he is truly the Father of the H.G. The Child of Promise we are just a joint heir with the Child which is the H.G. Thats y God told Moses that his name was ABRAHAM ISSAC AND JACOB simply b/c the Godhead is FATHER SON and Granson thus there will be an ISRAEL of God. Thats y he said whosoever receiveth one such CHILD in my name receiveth ME. The Kingdom has to come as a lil Child which is the H.G. that Child of Promise. Thats y he has to know US. Thats what real faith is CHILD birth as we have the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things to come which are the babes and sucklings via his seed The ISRAEL OF God. Jesus said our sorrows are gonna be turned to joy after the Child comes.

Hi Berry In context both the people because of ramped idolatry where not worshipping the true God so they were spiritually lost, hence context all souls living people who sinneth commit idolatrous practices shall die.

Now look at Gods position in this verse 25 you tell me my ways are not equal oh house of Israel tells you who they were blaming Gods Says are not my ways equal and your ways not equal. he establishes the same thing in 29 then 30 -31 is Gods wish turn from your idles because I have no pleasure in him that dieth the death. Destruction is not Gods will but

if you continue in sin broken fellowship death is the wage I.E. if you choose to keep going against my will for you death spiritually and eventually physically is your end. Prayerfully this helps. God Bless

Hi Jean Hebrews 4 In regards to Speaking in tongues the wonderful works of God been doing that for 48 years

its not a over wired emotional controlled by God deal. Keep something in mind its Gods gift so you operate the gift

it does not operate you. It doesn't put you into an emotional frenzy or make you hit the floor or any of those out of

order things because the true God is a God of order. Its actually the opposite it gets you peaceful and calm on the inside. People do these things because of the examples they have seen

and believe that's the way it is that God Controls them. The True God never controls us he works in us to do of his good

will and pleasure Phil. 2:14. Last point there are biblically 12 things in scripture that S.I.T. does for the believer that's

another discussion. It is the first outward display of the spirit working on the day of pentecost also the apostle paul wrote

he thanked God he S.I.T. more than a whole assy. at corinth. That says something.
  • Uno Hoo - 4 years ago
All of the discussion turned away from the subject: I am a wretch ! Paul said he was (still?) chief of all sinners. I know that God SAVED a wretch like me, but I'm still a wretch..."Oh wretched man that I am."

God isn't finished with me. Why HE tolerates me I don"t know, but HE does. And I'm on my way... jes goin home!

Adam - there are reprobates that can't see, Paul was spiritually blind until the light shined on him. Paul believed in the God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob but he didn't know who Jesus was. - Matthew 7:6

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Mark 6:12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
  • Mishael - In Reply on John 10 - 4 years ago
    This is my skinny explanation.

For a long time the Bible was in languages common ordinary people couldn't read. Priests taught the people. The people had no way of knowing if it was truth or heresy.

People were burned at stake for being caught with just one page of the Bible. They tore the pages out of the Bible and shared them.

It's a sad story. King James of London set out to see the Bible was translated into English do everybody could read it. The Gospel began to spread everywhere after that.
