Well written, GiGi & I fully concur. Indeed, Muhammed did learn & absorb some things from Judaism, but he also had a 'Christian' wife (one of several other wives of varying persuasions), & it's our understanding that this 'Christian' woman wasn't a true believer & had her beliefs rooted in Roman Catholicsm or some off-shoot of it. So there was that influence that he also had. As well, with the plethora of apocryphal writings around, Muhammed appeared to glean much from the 'Gospel of Barnabas'. He rejected the four Gospels that we have (even as the Jews also reject), as certainly that would create problems for him. We see this in his beliefs, the rejecting of the crucifixion of Jesus (claiming rather, that God had placed a substitute on the Cross: Judas Iscariot?), yet believing that Jesus was one of the most holiest of prophets, Whom God had raised up to Heaven miraculously. And of course, there were many factual errors & absurdities in that spurious gospel that helped formulate his own writings, which he claimed came from Heaven.

With the misunderstanding, hence denial of the Triune God, his belief that he was prophesied to come as the next prophet, the rejection of the New Testament & apostolic writings, & obedience to the Laws of God, especially as those revealed in the Quran & the Hadith, ensured that Muhammed remained disconnected from the Truth & to be the leader of others believing this deception & going into a Christless eternity. So when we (in Pakistan) gave out books containing the Gospels we know & love, or of the lives of Abraham, his sons, David & the prophets (all whom Muslims consider as prophets), many eyes were opened for the first time as they read narratives that were not found in the Quran. And when those readers enquired before the Muslim clerics, one can only imagine the anger & furore that resulted. But the Word of God cannot be bound & will always bring liberty, joy & peace to all who call upon the Name of the LORD through His Son.

CONTINUING- I sent the previous text mistakingly to soon.

Genesis 22:14. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, IN THE MOUNT OF THE LORD IT SHALL BE SEEN."

"Abraham was happy to see my day "!!!

    God bless.

    Amen Sister GiGi.

In Abraham's mind Issac was as good as dead. Abraham was banking on Gods promise as you said.

Hebrews 11:17-19. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

OF WHOM IT WAS SAID, THAT IN ISAAC SHALL THY SEED BE CALLED:

ACCOUNTING THAT GOD WAS ABLE TO RAISE HIM UP, EVEN FROM the DEAD; from whence also he received him in a figure.

Genesis 22:14. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

Thank you GiGi & David for those added thoughts. These types of things lie in that 'grey' area of what is right, wrong, or permissible - and each one has to have a good conscience before God in those matters. I often think that I'm too sensitive over such things in my personal life & this sensitivity can rub off when reading other narratives. But in the end, the Lord knows our hearts & He will make it abundantly clear to us by His Spirit within us.

...and sacrificed the ram as a substitute for Isaac (and all of Isaac's seed). Such an amazing historical story! As many have pointed out in their posts, many comparisons and fore-shadowings of Christ Jesus and His sacrifice. Abraham's one , and only Son promised to Abraham: God's one and only Son, promised to mankind in the garden of Eden. Isaac carries wood on which he would be sacrificed; Jesus carries his own cross on which he will be sacrificed. Isaac goes willingly to the altar and is bound willingly; Jesus willingly goes to Jerusalem, to Pilate, to Golgatha, to be nailed to the cross. Abraham is willing to to slay his own son; God the Father is willing to slay His own. The difference is, Abraham was stopped by God; God did not stop the slaying of His son, Jesus. The ram in the thorny thicket was provided for the sacrifice; Jesus with his head crowned with thorns (the thorns were dug into His flesh, and He bled). Just amazing parallels! Jehovah-Jireh-God will provide.! Then God speaks again to Abraham and reconfirms his promise and covenant with him, this time with Isaac, too.

Abraham passed the test of faith. He can look back on this and bless the Lord for His faithfulness and promised blessings.

I think the account in the remainder of the chapter happens at a time later than the test. Word comes to Abraham from Haran that his brother Nahor has had 12 children, 8 by his wife and 4 by his concubine, Reumah. This sets up the lineage of Isaac's wife-to-be Rebekah, born to Bethuel, Nahor's son. So, Rebekah is Isaac's second cousin one generation removed. Now Abraham and Sarah know that there is a kin person for Isaac to marry.

Whenever I read this account of Abraham's test with Isaac, I desire more faith and pray for it. I also remember Abraham and God's faithfulness when I face a test of faith, too. God is good and cannot be tempted by evil. He will always do what is right. It always reminds me to be in constant fellowship with God so that I know His voice.

Lord Jesus please fight our battles for us. Please destroy the works of the enemy in our lives. I ask for your protection (esp. the little one) and the anointing that destroys the yoke of bondage. I ask for salvation of unsaved loved ones. All of this I also ask for all others in need. Please glorify your name in our midst. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

....He also believed that God would resurrect Isaac after he died in the sacrifice. So, by faith, Abraham hoped against hope, and determined to do all that God had commanded him to do, without hesitation. He was sure of what he hoped for and did not waver in his faith in God. He believed God would completely fulfill his promises of making him a great nation.

God told him where to go to sacrifice Isaac. To a hill in Jerusalem, on a mountain in the land of Moriah. Many interpret this as the same mountain Solomon's temple was built upon (can't recall the verse where God tells David to go to Mt. Moriah to sacrifice). Abraham gathers all that he will need and sets out in the morning with Isaac and servants. Isaac caries the wood and Abraham carries the fire and the knife. Isaac goes willingly, perhaps like he has done many times before with his father, though he notices that there is not animal for the sacrifice and inquires about it. Abraham replies,, "God will provide Himself the lamb for the burnt offering." Abraham probably did not know he was prophesying about Jesus at this time, but Jesus did say to His Jews that Abraham saw this day and rejoiced. ( Jn 8:56). So, maybe he did see Jesus' sacrifice at this time or a little later. He built an altar, arranged the wood Isaac had carried, bound and laid him on the wood on the altar. (Was Golgatha the altar that Jesus was laid upon? Was it the same hill as in this event?) Without hesitation Abraham raised the knife with every intent to slay Isaac, and then God broke through, coming down from heaven, and stayed Abraham's hand, telling him not to lay a hand on Isaac. Saying, "Now I know that you fear God, since you did not withhold your one and only son, from Me." I tend to think that Abraham had just began the downswing of his arm holding the knife when God stopped him.

Then Abraham saw a ram caught in a thorny thicket.

As many have spoken of in their posts, there is so many instances of foreshadowing in this event.

This is one of my most favorite chapters in the Old Testament. For those who just finished reading this chapter, I encourage you to read Romans ch. 4 and Hebrews ch. 11:17-19. There is a direct connection between this chapter in Genesis and those I cited from the New Testament concerning faith.

The chapter opens with God's plan to test Abraham and his faith. This is both a physical and spiritual test. God is omniscient, meaning he knew every thing that will ever happen before he creation including all of the thoughts, intentions, words spoken, and actions of each and every person from before creation. God didn't need to find out what Abraham would decide or do. He wanted to test Abraham for Abraham's sake. God calls to Abraham; He initiates the encounter. Abraham did not go to God and say, "Lord, what can I do to prove my faith to you." Here I am." Abraham did not tarry in responding to God. he was not wary of God, nor did he think that serving God was a burden.

God explains what he wants Abraham to do. I have always been amazed that God would ask Abraham to do what everyone throughout history knows is wrong; kill another person. Yet the Bible says that God cannot be tempted by evil (can't recall the verse in the NT). Abraham knew that it was wrong before God to kill/sacrifice another person. The idolaterous people did this, sacrificed their children to Molech (Baal), laying them on the hands of the giant idol with a fire below his hands and in a chamber within his form. Abraham knew that Isaac was in essence his only son because God said to send Ishmael away and he was no longer a part of Abraham's family. He loved Isaac deeply having waited 100 years for Isaac to be born (25 years after God promised he'd be born). Isaac was probably close to adulthood at this time, or old enough to marry and have children to fulfill the promise of the covenant. Yet Abraham reconized that God is God and ne is not. He knew God. He trusted God. See more...

A marriage that was built on the foundation of Jesus Christ may find hope in restoration in the event of an unfaithful spouse. The faithful spouse continues to walk in peace and forgiveness with their Lord Jesus and remains teachable by the Holy Spirit and keeps themselves washed in Him. This witness is good to every on looker including those whom have again chosen sin instead of forgiveness and righteousness in Jesus Christ. God by His Word and living witnesses can call anyone back to Him. Sometimes even back to their faithful spouse God makes a way for restoration. The one in offense must completely repent and return to the Lord no matter what not even hoping for restoration to the marriage that was in the Lord but to the Lord himself. This powerful witness of forgiveness and peace can be seen also by others possibly including the faithful spouse. If an order can be reestablished that remains a witness to all looking on the possibility of restoration in marriage may increase. I have personally witnessed several complete and happy restorations in marriage that was once built first on the Rock.

its interesting I read in the OT yesterday on

this very subject ,But I don't recall the verse and book , memory not working !00 % any more .

A broken Marriage is often defiled and to get back together is wrong . I personally have never seen it come to any good as well . My understanding if it helps .

I would not take back a unfaithful spouse into a marriage , but they can be forgiven , if repentant we must do that .

The marriage is defiled they have joined them self to another , can't undo that .

    Hello Chris, Great reply!

I would like to add that circumcision was a command for all of Israel, not only Jews. But by the time of Jesus, Israel had been scattered across the world along with many Jews, but in the holy land, mostly Jews lived there. The Israelites were people of the Law and circumcision before Christ. But they did not have to be bound by these through faith in Jesus. the law of grace set them free from the covenant of Law and circumcision Muhammed copied much from the Jewish faith and put himself and his followers under bondage to the Law when he could have lived free from this bondage if he had believed in Jesus, since salvation had already come into the world when Muhammed lived. Sad that he was deceived and led many down the wrong path. Part of the bondage of the Law makes one a slave to sin. The constant conflict, hatred, and killing that goes on between Jews and Muslims is a result of this bondage.

continued: Abraham trusted God to provide for Hagar and Ishmael or he would have given her more food and water. God did provide for them in the wilderness, allowing Hagar to find find the spring/well of water. God was with them and brought them to a place in the wilderness to live. Ishmael grew up there and became proficient with the bow and arrow. This helped him provide for his mother and himself in an harsh environment.

It says that Ismael was blessed because he was a seed of Abraham. God promised to both Abraham and Hagar, Ishmael's parents, that he would become a great nation. And he did. Hagar must have taken him to Egypt to get a wife according to the text. The people who came from Ishmael and the Egyptian wife are the Arabs, part Hebrew and part Egyptian.

It says that God was with Ishmael. He looked after him. Hagar must have had some faith in the God of Abraham. She was blessed with at least two positive direct interactions with God. I don't see anything in her from the text that would warrant disliking her. She and Ishmael were just not the the bloodline of promise.

The tribes of Israel were scattered throughout the world from the exile in Assyria. It is very likely that many migrated north eastward and north westward from Assyria and mixed with the populations of Europe, Russia, and eastward. Some may have migrated southwesterly and southeasterly. Therefore it is likely that many people across the world have Abraham's bloodline in them. Many in the world do not. But in Christ it is no longer about the bloodline of Abraham; rather it is the about the spiritual bloodline of Christ through faith in Him that we inherit the promise of God. Any of Ishmael's descendants can have the promises of God through Christ if they believe. Any Jew or Israelite can have the promises of God through Christ. Any descendant of Ham or Japheth can have the promises of God through Christ. God's promises are for everyone who believes in Jesus and heirs of God.

Hi Ann Whats known as the rapture is in thessalonians known as the gathering together of the body of Christ in this the age of Grace when he comes for the saints or the ones separated by the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is the resurrection where we will be given perfect incorruptible bodies like his. This is not written in revelation, in revelation the saints come back with christ to kick the enemies butt for all time. I'm sure they'll be different ideas on this.

It is raining today again. Some people get down dur to rain and gray skies. For me, I try to remember God's promise with Noah and his covenant rainbow. Also,, I recall Hosea 10:12 where it says, "Sow for yourself in righteousness; reap inn mercy. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord 'til He comes and rains righteousness upon you."

I feel the rain on my head and know that Christ's righteousness is raining down on me, since He came!

Having read this chapter and the comments I see so much to be hopeful in the text. Abraham and Sarah knew that God had given them a specific time for Sarah to conceive. They were hopeful for God to fulfill his promise, and He did. They were hopeful throughout the pregnancy that the babe would be born safely, and he was. Sarah mentioned that those who hear of her son's birth will laugh with her. There was much joy in Abraham's camp! Abraham circumcised Isaac on the 8th day as God had commanded.

The next part speaks of a celebration of Isaac's weaning from breastfeeding. He was probably between 2 and 5 years old at this time since it was common for children to be breastfed this long in those times and even in many cultures today. This ensured that the child always had an instant supply of nutrition in environments that can be harsh.

Ismael was a teen ager at this time. We are not told how he mocked Isaac, perhaps provoking or teasing Isaac in an unkind way. With the age difference, Ishmael should have known better. This upset Sarah enough to want Ishmael and Hagar sent away into the wilderness, not wanting Ishmael to receive any of Isaac's promised inheritance. So maybe he was taunting Isaac about about being born first and of his father's favor. Abraham loved Ishmael and the thought of sending him away was a difficult decision to make. God intervened and told Abraham to go against his heart feelings and do as Sarah had said. He provided Hagar and Ishmael with some sustenance and sent them out into the wilderness.

Cynthia Years ago I had a unique and educational experience i was invited to a motorcycle gangs hideout by one of there members to meet there leader. When we arrived we went to His trailer and inside he had scripture all over the walls everywhere, you can't make this stuff up.

So first he said you probably are wondering about the scripture I told him it did cross my mind. My biggest challenge was mentally the love of God thinketh no evil, to continue he explained to me why he gave up believing in God and decided to rebel against society.

Years before he was going to a catholic school for boys and one evening he went to see the head priest, when he got to the office and opened the door he saw the priest and another individual doing things they shouldn't have been doing and that flipped him. So in his mind why should I change when someone else who's supposed to be holy basically is corrupt. At that point I opened the Bible he had and shared with him scripture for about a half hour, then got up and when we parted he said thanks.

The next part was a little challenging walking away twp of his friends came up one grabbed my arm another put a knife up to my throat and said are you prepared to die. Without thinking my response was very calmly well actually yes because i know I'm going to heaven, at that moment the leader came out and told them leave him alone, boy was I thankful for Fathers protection then we left.

The point of this is a lot of people have had sick experiences with friends, family, other belief systems that have driven them to act the way they act, that's why I endeavor to think forgive them Father for they know not what they do and the love of God thinketh no evil. There are at least four hollywood personalities that admitted they are gay because of bad experiences that drove them to be that way from bad religius examples. Anyone can be delivered if they want it.

Lets say for instance someone got a divorce from there husband an so the husband kept coming around to see his god children but really trying to see the ex wife, she allowed him, an also to sleep on the couch when it was late, so he boguarded his way back in the house by staying a little while longer and longer, the bible speaks of fornication, but where does it speak on the ex husband assuming that his ex wife has to have sex with him. his reply its only natural, to me natural to me is carnal minded. however I Corinthians speaks on the flesh he has not, asked for the wife to remarry, and the wife feels she back to were they started and were not married but lying up. Is this still considered fornication.

Hi Cynthia I understand Gods Love for people but all acts against what was set up for life the way He designed it to be Man and woman together was not his desire. The so called science that you are talking about is a blatant lie. I personally know of Christians that were into either lesbian stuff or the male side and got delivered.

They know they were spiritually blinded, I do not hate or despise anyone on dope alcoholism sex addicts etc.. Biblically my position is those without sin cast the first stone but I despise the act. These are systems of the world driven by our adversary and I'm sure there are others on this website that by God's grace have been delivered from this stuff I being one. That being shared its your privilidge to believe what you will, I choose as my Saviour IT IS WRITTEN.

If you would please pray for my return to The Lord Jesus Christ, I would greatly appreciate it. I have fallen back into sin and need deliverance, repentance, faith and healing for my backsliding. Also, I need help with the trials I am going through and for deliverance from The Devil, my enemies, and from any satanic strongholds and bondages that I am under. My life has become like The Book of Job. If you would pray that The LORD helps me find a New Testament Church to attend and heals my body, mind, soul and spirit. In addition if you would pray for The LORD to protect me from The Devil and my enemies and to provide for all of my spiritual and material needs, I would greatly appreciate that. My life both spiritually and materially is ruined but I know The LORD can restore me like He did Job. Thank you all and God bless you.
